      is 13 quarts the correct amount to order? Will that also cover the transfer case?

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @randyborrero8604 I would double check the lookup guide and you can order it right off my website and that way I will be your independent Amsoil Dealer always get extra I recommend buying it by the case of gallons if you are doing a lot of fluid changes I think the pan held right around 7:00 and then the transfer case was about one and a half so one case of quarts you should be good.
      Some vehicles have more than one transmission type so always double-check on the lookup guide and get extra just in case.
      Also if you bought a car used it could have a oversized transmission pan on it always good to check underneath could possibly have an oversized pen which they usually hold about an extra 3 quarts.
      Also if you want to get the best value on the products I highly recommend the 6-month preferred customer that will give you the very best value and benefits.

      @randyborrero8604 yes that's correct the pan holds right around half of the fluid so it just depends on the pan that's on the vehicle if you have an aftermarket pan it could hold an extra 3 quarts more there's two different ways that they register the fluids there's the initial fill and total fill initial fill is what's in the panda a total fill total Phil is what the total capacity torque converter in the PIN

    I just did this job today after 95,000 miles on factory fill.
    The truck has been boosted and driven hard for the last 25,000 miles. There was a mildly alarming amount of metal on the filter and pan magnet, but not horrendous all things considered.
    The job took 7 HOURS on my back in the cold and rain to accomplish. The coyote equipped 10R80 is way more of a pain to deal with. However the truck now shifts like it did when it was new.

    The back of the Aims Oil bottle stated it was good for Ford Mercon* LV @13:57, but 307-01 Automatic Transmission manual calls for Mercon ULV (XT-12-QULV) and even warns against using anything else other than that. Even after looking at the technical data, how can it meet viscosity requirements needed for both the transfer case (LV) and transmission (ULV) at the same time? Will be interesting to see how it holds up past the 100k mark.

    You can see right on the bottle (13:48) that the Amsoil might be a good alternative to the Mercon LV (so fine for the T-case), however there is not currently an Amsoil ATF spec'd to replace the Mercon ULV. They have very different viscosities:
    Mercon ULV viscosity = 4.5cst @ 100C (19.2cst @40C)
    Amsoil SS FE ATF = 6.3cst @ 100C (30.8cst @40C)
    Simply put, you would have to run the Amsoil SS 15-20F hotter for the same viscosity at a given point that your ULV would supposedly be at. This probably isn't a very big deal once the fluid is up to operating temp, and might even be somewhat beneficial to people who like to run their vehicles hard. But the shift programming is still going to be calibrated (optimally) for the ULV viscosity to temperature relation. The biggest concern, is that the ATF is going to be thicker, more resistant to flow and yield higher line pressures (Pressure = resistance to flow; higher oil/line pressure is NOT always a good thing) when cold while coming up to operating temp. Especially for those of us who operate our vehicles year round in cold climates.

I seen on Facebook by 1320 synthetics they put all there fluid levels between the 2.5 and 3 mark but fors recommends between 5 and 6 so kinda lost on that one. Leaning twards ford i would think they would know how much to put in. Also got to the end of the video when they were test driving and they said it no longer moves when put into gear. Yeah that's totally normal over time as the transmission shifts little particles fill up the filter once the filter gets more particles in it the fluid doesn't flow through at the same so you'll have a little bit of irregularity when you shift it from Park reverse drive also you'll notice the shifts can be intermittent and or delayed.
      Totally normal the best thing to do is just do a basic trans drop just like we did drop the pan clean the magnets change the filter and then put in a higher quality fluid Amsoil built a specific lubricant for this transmission for best performance this is the lubricant that I would run if I was doing regular driving -

    While I have a F-150 now with 5.0 and 10 speed auto and I just watched your video because it is closing in on 24,000 miles and i am getting ready to change the tranny fluid. I just wanted to mention that my 2 wheel drive 1982 Dodge Ramcharger with 498,000+ miles on it and auto trans with lockup torque converted is all original. I changed the trans fluid/filter myself ever 24,000 miles, but it sure was a whole lot faster and easier to do, and easier to check the fluid level when done. Changing all fluids does not cost us more money and instead it saves us more money on repairs.

    Does GM transmission pan fit Ford transmission? Or are there aftermarket metal or aluminum cast tranny pans made for Ford? Metal pan with a drain plug would be also beneficial for better cooling.

    I have Tasca Ford change my tranny fluid twice in 66k miles and it does shift remarkably better. In sport mode with the ford fluids, it shifted harshly ... and I was concerned. The transfer case sounded rough as well.
    Once I changed out all the ford fluids to Amsoil (tranny fluid, two differentials and the transfer case. The truck, a 2020 SuperCrew 3.5L 10R80 shifts like butter solid and ready to roll ... and I get 2 more miles per gallon.

    Drop pan and filter will only drain 6 liters of fluid. If you can loose the 8 bolts of valve body (Not too much, just loose them), and it will drain another 6 liters of fluid. That was what I did last time. So I literally drained all transmission fluid.

      @@Syntheticoilprotection when dropping pan and filter only drain fluid from pan, there is still fluid inside transmission and torque converter. Loose the attachment of valvebody to transmission case making the closed channels open some cracks, and fluid inside the transmission will start draining. It toke me about 15 minutes to drain.
      Be careful not to loose too much space, because there is rubber seal on the back of valvebody connecting to transmission case. Don't make the seal out of its positions, otherwise have to take off the valve body to correct it. Just be aware. Also, if it is Start/Stop, then there is small metal tube from electrical pump need to be removed.

    I own a brand new 2024 (1000 miles) F150 3.5 eco and the transmission is “twitchy”. Can definitely feel shifts in low gears, low speeds. A buddy with a 2019 and 100K feels the same. Interestingly I can’t feel shifting while towing. I’m told that’s just the way the Ford 10 speed is. I’m inclined to drain and add Amsoil.

    My Gm version had dark fluid at 30k as well. Filter was dark, I will be doing this every 30k, these transmission are great, but they run hotter and hotter as the fluid collects debris and degrades. I was one of the guys who read the manual and acknowledged the no service transmission on my previous generation with the 6l80, on that truck the fluid with 220k miles on it was the same dark color of my 10 speed with only 30k on it. Things change and for whatever reason the 10l80 or ford version in my opinion should be serviced with fluid and filter at 30k the 60k, I am curious to see if the wear material becomes less or if these are just dirty transmissions.

      Well when you do it all the time and you know how long it should idle to get it to the proper temperature you kind of do it in your sleep if that's all you do everyday.
      There's a window that the fluid expands as it gets hot the fluid expands and as long as it's at a certain temperature range you are good to go so you don't overfill the transmission and so some of those guys don't use any gauge because they know if it idles for say 6 minutes it's at the right temperature range.
      But of course if you always want to be perfectly precise you always use a Snap-On torque wrench and get out a temperature gauge like you said then you know for certain.
      That's how I am with looking at motor oil I can tell the oil is fine with Amsoil but I've done many years of oil analysis with all different equipment so I can tell by the way it looks if it's starting to get thin with fuel dilution.
      That's the biggest killer to all oil is when a lot of fuel gasoline mixes into the oil it thins out the film strength and that will allow the oil to burn quicker and will also wear out the motor quicker if it's a high percentage over two and a half percent of fuel dilution is where it starts to get important to watch it.

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ethanol in gasoline damages the oil film strength so if you have a high ethanol fuel and you have fuel dilution you can really break down your oil quickly

    I just changed mine at 110k. I tow a 9k pound camper often. It just started to act weird. It fixed my issues but i still hate this transmission

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's awesome yeah there's a lot more to the transmissions and also the trucks.
      For instance one thing that can make a huge Improvement is doing a relearn on the transmission there's a separate computer that controls the shifting patterns that can be reset on most of the vehicles from when I'm aware of I've done it on my personal car and I've noticed a big Improvement.
      Another thing that could be an option is getting a different rear axle ratio that is a lot of weight for a gasoline truck.
      I used to work at Ford and talked to a lot of old timers that were born in the 40s and they told me that on any truck if you ever tow over 6,000 lb you always want a heavy duty truck.
      The brakes are different and the Transmissions different on the heavy duty truck and their specifically built for those applications the Ford trucks can do up to about 11,000 on the 1500 with the right axle ratio it's just that it is pushing it and when you push it you can warp the rotors if they overheat and you can shorten the lifespan of the transmission but the truck will still tow 11,000 lb with the right tire and axle ratio.
      I would definitely try the relearn on the transmission first I would also get the intercooler fluid changed and the coolant changed on it immediately with the Amsoil propylene glycol is what I use it's the white bottle concentrate and the Dominator coolant boost.
      Another subtlety since you're putting a lot of pressure on that motor that I would do if I lived in Vegas with your truck I would also get the aftermarket oversized intercooler it helps get rid of a lot of heat and can make a big difference under load.
      I'd start there if you're still not happy with the truck it might be time for a 2500 or 3500👍

    • @iMurk903
      @iMurk903 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Syntheticoilprotection it's has the common long shift when cold in 3rd gear . I did do the tsb for the relearn and it "fixed" it for a week or so. Idk I'm a ford guy and can't bring myself to buy anything else. Will be upgrading to a 250 soon when interest rates go back down. Thanks for the information 👍

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @stephennewton8855 great!!! Yeah the only other thing I can think of is the axle to Tire ratio sometimes just getting a smaller Tire can really make a huge difference if you are Towing one thing you can try is getting like a 255-55-18 it would be a great City Tire for driving on blacktop but not too good off-road but for towing and Highway purposes you would see a big bump in drivability. Also your rotors will have a little more power because the smaller wheel will give a better leverage with the rotor

    • @iMurk903
      @iMurk903 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Syntheticoilprotection I'm running 3.55 gearing with 305/55/20. At 80mph with no trailer I'm still under 2k rpm in 10th

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @stephennewton8855 that's a fairly tall Tire I think I would go to a 3,73 rear end axle but I think a 410 would be a little too short.
      Really the cheapest thing to do when you're towing is the just get some steel wheels and just do the cheap set of tires like a SUV tire that is a city street Tire like a 255 55 r18.
      Your truck would jump off the line with that wheel and tire package.
      You'd also have better braking.
      If you want to keep those wheels on all the time you can do the 3.73 rear axle.

    Time was when an old Ford C-4, Cruisomatic/FMX and C-6 would go over 50,000 miles even on the old jojoba-bean derived Type F fluid, even longer with pre 1972 sperm whale oil derived fluid.
    Now, since everyone seems to think that more than 4 ratios are necessary in automatic transmissions, and with sketchy electronic controls, synthetic fluid is preferred if not an absolute must.
    I give Amsoil credit for being the ONLY manufacturer (that I know of) who makes a synthetic type F for older transmissions. I have also heard of people using Type F in the Mercedes Benz transmission used in Challengers and Chargers for its coefficient of friction advantages in racing.
    I just did a transmission service on a 4R70w and was surprised to find that the Mercon V fluid out there was either conventional or merely synthetic blend.

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would get extra just in case if someone spills fluid or something like that if you lose a quart you won't be closed always get extra you can always use more on your next round a few years from now as long as you keep the bottle sealed the transmission fluid will still be good. If I remember correctly with both the transfer case and the transmission it's getting close to 10 quarts so if it was me I would just buy a case and save the money one case of quarts is what I would do. The quart bottles will save you a couple bucks to instead of the easy pack

      If you can get the filter changed and clean the magnets it's another level of protection and preventive maintenance but definitely changing the fluid will make an improvement in the shifting and the lifespan of the transmission.

    I was under the impression Ford's 10R80 uses ULV. Our 2019 takes ULV.
    I only mention this because the application list on the back of the fluid you used says MERCON LV. 🤷🏽‍♂️

      That's correct this transmission fluid meets and exceeds both specifications that was an older outdated label the new label has it on it. Change Trans Fluid frequently. If you wait until 80 -100k mile - don't because sludge will break loose and cause Valve Body problems.
    The Ford Flushing system is good but do it early.
    Ford FWD Automatics require separating Trans from Engine to access Filter.

    Does the amsoil affect trans fluid temps?
    Once at 212* does it stay there long enough for you to get back under the truck and check it?
    If you have to add fluid does the temp drop back down.

    • @Syntheticoilprotection
      @Syntheticoilprotection  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great questions here yes the 100% synthetic Amsoil ATF fluid will definitely help your transmission run cooler☕️👍
      Not sure what you mean by getting underneath the truck the process is pretty straightforward just want to make sure you're at operating temperature so the transmission is not over full if you overfill it it will not shift right.
      Amsoil came out with a specific product now specifically for these Transmissions you'll see it right here on my website on the lookup guide💯...

      @bobatbilletcreations yeah there's a couple different transmission fluids the one that is ulv is called the Amsoil signature series transmission fluid multi-vehicle you will see a highlighted Blue Link that says see full technical data bulletin for details select that then you're going to find a PDF page you're going to have to read through it there's two different transmission fluids there there's a red one and a blue one the blue one has all the specs and then you'll see it in that listing. It's very fine print tough to understand but it's definitely there and I have used this fluid on many Transmissions here in the channel and it is a game changer - www.amsoil.com/p/amsoil-signature-series-fuel-efficient-100-synthetic-automatic-transmission-fluid-atl/?zo=5331179

      The old filters were merely screens on many transmissions except for Torqueflites which have used a modern dacron fabric filter since the early 1960s. Most times those screens wouldnt clog, unless the transmission was on its deathbed from shed friction materials.

    • @laurencecote7350

      Maybe, but more likely they want you to pay the dealer service department to do it, or better yet, just that tranny burn up right out of warranty, so you can buy another 60 to 100k vehicle. Also, shame on FORD for selling you a car / truck with a 20k engine and 10k transmission full of cheap plastic parts.

      @@Syntheticoilprotection If you tow...ALWAYS install the largest transmission fluid cooler you can get.
      I often use automotive air conditioning condensers for such a purpose.
      They used to have a chart at the will-call desk in the local Transtar parts facility that showed how much reduction in transmission life one would experience according to successively higher transmission fluid temperatures.
      Synthetic ATF helps in all applications, but there is NO substitute for keeping ATF cool.
