    Great video. I've been having the same problem with my 2019 F150's 10 speed transmission. Just got it back from my local Ford dealer (Northern Virginia) today, where it underwent a complete overhaul. Hopefully it solved the issue.
    By the way, I was happy and surprised to see the location of your video. It's my old hometown. I recognized everyplace you went in it. In addition to an informative video you made me feel homesick!

    great content! my 21 f150 47,000 miles has a harsh shift from 1 to 3 on very lite acceleration worse on colder days like pulling out of the drive way first thing in the morning. Also on several occasions when cold it actually down shifted with a few flares when coming to a stop and then remained in 10th gear at a dead stop and would not pull like it was actually hung up in 10th gear I had to shut off engine shift from park to reverse and it then went into 3rd and was able to pull off then once its up to 1/2 way on trans temp gauge it shifts like a dream. I've had it at local dealer twice first time reset the adaptive shift tables and came back quickly and after 3 week wait to get it back in and they did the same with a reprogram and a performed a "sticking valve procedure"??? that was the best its ever shifted for about a month, now same but not as harsh as before on the 1-3 on light acceleration only when trans is cold and no hanging in gear but after everything is up temp shifts near prefect.

    Saw you actually responding so I thought I’d give it a try. I have a 2019 F150 and on a road trip recently, it overheated and ford said it was 2 quarts over filled. A couple weeks after that, it is now slamming into gear going 3-5 and VERY delayed when going 3-4 to where it throws my body forward before finally catching the gear. I am thinking the valve body is now damaged but wanted to shoot my shot on what your thoughts were or if you diagnosed these symptoms before. More apparent after a cold start and every other gear shifts perfectly up or down as well.

      A very delayed 3-4 upshift when cold is textbook symptoms of a shifted cdf drum bushing. I don't believe it being overfilled caused that.

    Hello, i have a 2019 mustang gtcs with the 10r80 61k miles. I had rough shifts cold 4th gear shift issue and cluncky on downshifts to a stop. I had ford do the updated cdf service thank god under warranty. Told me it was 8k. Since then ive had increasing problems. Overheating to over 230 degrees and once a wrech light came on and car wouldnt let me shift, afte4 spirited driving. Let it sit a few and it drove home fine. I still have cluncky downshifts coming up to a stop and sometimes thumps hard into 1st. Any idea? Im out of warranty now and very concerned. Appreciate any feedback immensly.

    Thanks for your video and insight. I have a 19/MY20 Mustang GT with the 10R80 in Australia. Dealer has diagnosed issues with the transmission and presented the TSB24-2101 (harsh/delayed shift) and 20-2198 (high pitched whine for cars built Oct-Dec 19 which mine is) to Ford AU for repair. However, Ford AU denied any repairs to be performed on vehicle even though it is still within warranty. Ford AU even say the TSBs don't apply in Australia, even though they're the same 'box and have the same problems as any other Mustang in the world with a 10R80!! The whine is self explanatory and accords with TSB (TSB fix would include the replacement of the transmission inner output shaft bearing). The harsh shifts are mostly in Sport and while unpredictable, revolve mostly around 2-3-4. In normal mode, a kick-down at 80kph 10-8 is always rough. What would your prognosis of this transmission be? Dealer would have done any software updates at recent service. Would a full replacement transmission or could a transmission expert actually pull this one apart and fix? Any thoughts appreciated!

    Hey there! Thank you for this video. I bought a 61k mile ‘21 Expedition Max and noticed that it would jerk violently at times when going from park to drive (or to reverse). Just got a 2021 Mustang Gt with only 6,000 miles on it, got the 10r80 in it. Really hard 1-3 and 3-5 shifts. in sport + all the shifts are pretty jerky even when the trans temp is 200. Seems to have trouble finding drive again after backing up (R to D). Downshifted from 10-9 the other day as i slightly got on it to pass someone and it seemed to take a second to be fully set in 9th gear. It is 30 degrees here but I always let everything warm up before even getting on it. Car is under full warranty but dealership told me it’d be at least a week and I’m under 25 and can’t get a rental. Should I attempt a KAM reset if I can do that myself? Or just book another appointment and wait it out? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

      Hi! These are clunky and firm transmissions. Sounds like somethings a bit abnormal. You can have the dealer overhaul the valve body, and if that doesn't fix the long delay 10-9 you may need a new cdf drum

    I just bought a 2019 f150 off a lot in salt lake city. 3.5 ecoboost. Soon after i left my trip on my way back home, i noticed some delay shifting between 3-4, 3-5 and 9-10. I just kind of ignored it thinking it was adapting. About 700 miles into my trip home it starts to go haywire with all sorts of things and then ultimately shuts everything down. I pull over put in park then in gear and nothing. Turn the truck off then back on, put in gear and it starts to go, tries shifting into 2 and 3 with lots of shuttering and delay. The dealership (not ford)i bought from wants nothing to do with helping me fix it, ford dealerships were a joke to talk to and now i have a $31k "brand new" truck sitting in my driveway that needs transmission work and not even sure yet what it is, when it can get fixed and how much.
    I have seen there is a lawsuit on ford for these year transmissions, sounds like theyve had nothing but issues. IMO , ford corporate should be paying for this

    Hello, I enjoyed your videos on 10R80 transmission and wanted to try my luck on what your thoughts would be on the issue that I have with mine.
    I have a 2021 Ford Expedition with about 25K miles, no warranty. Upshifting is more or less normal. Morning shifts to either rear or drive on the cold
    start are jerky. Worst part, while downshifting, starting from 4th gear going down till a complete
    stop it hesitates, jerks, always skips the 2nd gear on the gear indicator, and most of the time (not always) it give me this "thump" or a "bang" as I am almost getting
    to a complete stop. My local Ford dealer says they performed TSB 22-2428 and performed adaptive learning drive cycle, did not help at all.
    Please reply with your thoughts on this or if you came across or diagnosed these symptoms before.
    Also, where are you located if I were to bring it in for a fix.

    • @BigBensCarsAndCycles
      @BigBensCarsAndCycles  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, thanks for watching. I know it's normal to skip 2nd on upshift, and I'm fairly certain it is on downshifts as well. I'm not at work at the moment. Based on your symptoms it may be a valve body issue. It's possible your cdf bushing has moved as well. I'd have to get a better feel for it in person. Regardless, since there's no warranty, you'll have 2 choices next following the tsb. Take the valve body apart and clean it, replace the gaskets and see if that takes care of the issue. Unfortunately if it doesn't take care of it, you'd have to pay for more labor to go back in and either replace the valve body or cdf drum, depending on what the tech believes is the next logical step. I'm in Virginia if you decide to come. Thanks!

    I have a mustang with the 10r80 that has jerky shifting, just now learning of the cdf drum sliding, what’s causing it to actually slide down? And isn’t it just going to happen to the new drum eventually? I have jerky shifting the odd time but the most persistent is a really big lunge when you downshift 3-2 above 30kmh (10-15mph?)using the paddles. No software updates/tunes have been able to remedy it so far

Bought a used 17' f150 raptor and it has a rough downshift only in gears 4 to 3 when cold. Is that pertaining to the CDF drum? Hey, I'm leaning towards a sticking valve or solenoid. That's at least a good place to start. Service bulletin 23-2250 applies here. Does it just jerk a little? If it has a strong lag or delay then yes the cdf drum. If it's just a bump, valve body

      @RobCross-gm7wd 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BigBensCarsAndCycles yeah no lag or delay. Just a solid thud like the gear is hinging on something before it goes down into 3rd. Also have experience a highway confusion where you floor it to pass a semi on a one lane road and the transmission would thud really loud on the downshift shift, lose power for a sec, then resume accelerating like nothing happened. I swear it felt like the transmission exploded. Dealership here in town has a waiting list to schedule an appointment with a transmission specialist. Experiencing intermittent hard shifts again. If you floor it the transmission will bang into gear, or if you drive in tow haul it'll bang on downshifts. Otherwise it drives normally with the occasional hard shift. Ford has diagnosed it and they want to drop the trans and see if the CDF drum is an issue. Last transmission replacement took over a month, based on your expertise, should I have the transmission dropped again and looked at. its all under Ford Warranty, BUT I am out of a vehicle for an unknown amount of time. Or is it likely to continue regardless, and just not worry about it and live with the truck driving terribly?

      Hi, I see where you said you had the transmission replaced 3 months ago. Was that a warranty repair? If so, the new transmission has a 12 month 12k mile warranty. If you paid for the transmission, it will have a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty. I would let them replace the cdf drum. They will install the updated design drum, which will let you have plenty of worry free miles. That's the only part I've seen lead to stranding someone on the side of the road (inside the 10 speed). You'll still get some firm shifts due to the valve body. But it should improve. Don't worry about firm shifts from the valve body too much. There isn't much you can do about that as far as a permanent repair. You can bring it up to them later if it still shifts firm after cdf drum replacement, and they'll reprogram the strategy and replace the valve body gaskets. That usually helps mitigate firm shifts from the valve body

    Waching videos like this only confirms that i will only buy a car with a lifetime powertrain warranty to cover defects that the manufacturer refuses to cover past certain miles

    What do you think of the 10r80 as a transmission? Would you be concerned owning one?

      @@BigBensCarsAndCycles with the TSB being out there before I bought the truck I’m hoping they already did it. I do have a warranty still. I’m going to ask them if they did this. If not I’m going to try and force them do replace the CDF

      @TrevorMaffetone they wouldn't do anything unless it's a recall. A tsb is a problem recognized by Ford and has a specified outlined repair

      @@BigBensCarsAndCycles okay so if I go in and complain about weird shifting they will just say it’s normal. I’d have to come out of pocket unless it fails. Dang it lol
      Thanks for your help man.

    None of that is cheap only thing that is cheap is Ford's 10 speed transmission quality wise my new truck shouldn't be doing that
