Do you see those flat round plates he pulls out. That group of plates are are called clutch plates. They where overwhelmed by the power made and failed. He is replacing them with clutch plates made of better materials.
I don't know much about automatic transmission rebuilding but I have pulled a lot of manual transmissions . When you get them out you can plainly see the hell that they've been through. Flywheel burned,different colors. Pressure plate the same and huge grooves in the surfaces etc. This transmission looks pretty much perfect. After researching this transmission in particular I am seeing the the problem is in this drum...one of the packs eating into the back of the drums. I didn't see that with this one. If you don't mind saying what with wrong with this one? 1700whp is pretty strong so I have no doubt it needed to be rebuilt. Jist wondering what the diagnosis was. I figure the cost to build this trans to handle over 1500whp and be reliable would be somewhere between 5,000.00 and 7500.00. I assume some performance parts are available to make ot survive. I would like to build a 10r80 that will stand up to 1000 ft lbs of tq. I would 5hink torque is what kills automatic transmissions...not hp. Anyway just interested to find out why this one died and what it would cost to make it reliable at those power levels. Thanks
The guys at midnight are absolutely some of if not the best in the business. My next coyote is definitely going to them. I heard the guy from HH mention boost works. I am surprised that he is still in business. I sued him a few years ago and settled because he was also charged with possession of child pornography ( public record, check it) & my attorney said to settle because he was probably going to prison and didn’t own anything of value.
All I know is I put Motul atf VI, and now it drives great. 30k and seems like it shifts faster and smoother 3to5 and no more hesitation on 4th. Smooth when cold too.
The bushing in the cdf drum likes to slip causing major cross leaks and fucked up shifting something to keep an out for….ford redesigned the cdf drum to alleviate the issue
Yeah, even though it’s redesigned, the bushing will still spin and cause issues. It just doesn’t like to move laterally since they put that ledge in the drum.
@Kevin-yc4kg ...can the older (2018) 10r80 have the newer upgraded parts installed? I would think it would be possible. I am a do it yourself type and was thinking about tearing into the one I have (2018 gt) . Guy I got it from said Ford looked at it and said just replace it. I have rebuilt a lot of different engines and a few manual gearboxes. Never rebuilt an automatic and this looks like I would immediately be going into the deep end of the pool.

Check the CDF case bushing and torn seals most likely that’s toys problem when you don’t have heated steel plates or frictions
