  • With the MotoGP cancelled in Australia this year, we decided to do a five day ride of some of the most iconic motorcycle roads in NSW. We were lucky to get two days of good weather, however it rained for most of the last three days which made filming a challenge.
    Despite that, we had an outstanding time, riding great roads in the company of good friends.
    Roads included - Taralga road, Shooters Hill road, Putty road, Bells Line of Road, Bucketts Way, Thunderbolts Way, Oxley Highway, Merriwa road, Sofala road and Trunkey Creek road.

    We certainly live in a beautiful country with so many great motorcycling roads

      We do Graeme! Often they are the roads that don't get all the coverage in the media. Taralga road, Abercrombie road and Shooters Hill roads were stunning and had almost no traffic at all!

      Thanks Adam. I fell in love with those roads as well. I'm determined to go back and do it again. Maybe in reverse just to get a different perspective :)

    Bells Line of Road is a great bike road, but as you found out too many trucks and slower than speed limit vehicles.

      Very True. I'm going to give it another ride in the coming months. I hope I get a better run through it.

    Great video. I’m so disappointed that I could not complete my trip from WA to NSW in 2020. I intended to ride all those roads in your video but was unable to as Covid hit and I had to turn back home from Adelaide in March due to the borders being closed.
    I really wanted to do the Oxley Highway and one day I do hope to do but for now its not looking good.
    Maybe one day when life returns to normal I might have another trip. Thanks for putting up the video.

      Feel your pain. Through a back injury early this year and now the COVID Delta, I haven't been able to do any rides myself. The lesson out of all of this is "When you get the chance to ride, just do it!" Don't let day-to-day stuff stop you. Yes, the Oxley is a must do ride. Keep it on your bucket list. Also suggest the Alpine roads of northern Victoria and southern NSW. That will be where I'm headed as soon as I am able.

    An inspirational video. I loved being able to recognise most of the locations on the roads videoed. To do the Bells Line justice you have to do it early in the morning, the same goes for the Putty, otherwise it’s the Boys in Blue and traffic. I’d also recommend the back way (there’s a couple) between Singleton and Gloucester rather than the Highway down to Hexham.
    Try Dog Rocks and Rockley Roads between Black Springs and Bathurst next time you’re in the area. There are so many great roads to explore.

      James, Thanks for the feedback and advice. I'm planning to do the whole trip again......this time going clockwise. I'll check out those roads you recommended. Take care. Brad

    Great work mate. I'm taking off for about a week soon & haven't been on those roads in about 10 years so its high time to get back up that way. Keep up the good work mate

      Jimmy, Thanks for that. I'm so keen to do this again, this time in reverse. Hopefully the weather will be fine so I can video all of it. Magnificent roads. Loved the Oxley Hwy.

    Love your channel!! I think I saw your group yesterday coming into Sutton. I was in the tow truck and my Triumph was on the tray. Flat battery 😂

      Peter, Yes! very observant. We had just completed a "coffee ride" to Trunkey Creek. Will post a video of it soon. Bugger about your battery. I remember passing the tow truck and checking out the bike for damage. Couldn't see any! Thanks for the feedback. Maybe see you for a ride sometime. Take care. Brad

    Very nicely done, great roads, great riders, what more do you need, oh the weather would make it although looks like you had little problem with that👍

    Awesome video, I was looking for a video just like this is I’m about to buy a cruiser and want to start touring some of the backgrounds we have in nsw and in other states. I live near Sutton so I now know where I’m headed first. Keep up the great content. 👌

      Anthony, great to hear from you. There's some great roads around here. I particularly like the ride from Sutton to Oberon via Gunning, Crookwell and Taralga. So much fun!

    Cheers from U.S.!! Beautiful scenery and looks like very enjoyable roads. If you can, in your editing software, lower the music volume about 1/2 when you are talking with music at same time.
    I like the way you overlapped the video on the map. I'm learning to edit and watching yours gives me ideas on how to improve my own. This is the first one of yours I've watched.
    Have been watching the Bogan and Nicontrast also.
    I'm subbing and will watch your others. Anyhoo, thanks for your posts. I really enjoyed viewing on the desktop 32"(81cm) full screen.

    Very interesting. How long total for covering that route? Looking forward exploring Pacific Coast Touring at the end of 2021.

      For us, it was a five day ride. Which gives a little time to see some of the sights. here's how far we traveled each day. 516km, 315km, 363km, 352km, 361km. Pity it rained for the final 3 days. Would I do it again?....Absolutely!! Let me know if you want more details of the route.

    What app is that ?
    waze ?

    • @RidesRoadsPeoplePlaces
      @RidesRoadsPeoplePlaces  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the app is called Scenic. It's a motorcycle specific navigation app. The thing I like most about it is that I can create routes easily on Google Maps and simply upload it through the Scenic web interface and import it to my iPhone. Many of the rides I do I want to ride a specific set of roads. Much easier to do that on Scenic than Garmin or Tom Tom. Hope that helps

    Hey, I am wondering how your rainsuit held up? Does it fit over your gear easily? Did you buy a bigger size or is it cut bigger?

    • @RidesRoadsPeoplePlaces
      @RidesRoadsPeoplePlaces  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really good question Bikesandbytes. I use the DriRider jacket and pants. Inexpensive and completely waterproof. Goretex is allegedly better as its supposed to breath. Having worn Goretex I found very little difference. WRT sizing, don't go on assumption of buying just one or two sizes bigger. Rookie mistake. I'm a 54 Euro or Large size. However, my Dririder jacket is a Medium and the pants XL !! Both fit over my leather and textile outfits snuggly but not restrictive. I don't like loose or flapping gear. Suggest only way to choose size is by trying it on over your gear. Happy rides!

      @@RidesRoadsPeoplePlaces oh, it's not a one piece rain suit?

    • @RidesRoadsPeoplePlaces
      @RidesRoadsPeoplePlaces  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, two piece. I find a one piece suit is harder to get into. As well, choosing one that is easier to get into often means a looser fit. Also, Love my AlpineStar SMX6 Goretex boots. Very dry. As well as my FIVE WFX gloves.
