Having grown up in Wauchope and with family still there, I regularly visit home from Sydney via the Thunderbolts and the Oxley by bike and car. Dozens of trips and still can't get enough of it! Great vid and cheers - Dave

My lady and I drove up through there a few weeks ago (sadly, by car, not on our bikes this trip). First time I'd been up that way in years.
There were a lot of bikes on the mountain...all behaving themselves and having a ball....
I am originally from Wauchope and I used to ride up there quite often during the 1970's. Initially on a CB750 Four, later on a GL1000 GoldWing. The road was a whole lot trickier back in those days. Not for the faint hearted. It was narrow and there were no Armco safety barriers... just big, solid, white posts and wire mesh catch fences. A fair bit of the long plateau stretch towards Walcha was dirt back then, as I recall.
Today, the Oxley is awesome and the scenery is magnificent.... I can see a return trip on our bikes coming up, once the weather warms up... Cheers

Great Video Mick, I've missed you since you left RoadRider. I rode the Oxley once and it is everything you say it is and more. Can't wait to ride it again.

Rode this yesterday, it is as smooth as silk and will not disapoint. Even if you want a gental cruise, the views are amazing but for the fast riders it is an absolute treat.

I usually vids from the US content creators simply due to the sheer range of choice. Coming across a well produced Aussie vid with that witty humor (Nah joking mate humour) once in a while is really refreshing to be honest

A thrilling adventure on a bike, but I did the opposite. Tamworth to Coffs in a '89 LandCruiser troopcarrier. Slow and painful. Now I have my Ls, and I'm keen to do it again the fun way when I get a good bike

That brought back memories, although, several decades ago that section of the Oxley Hwy wasn't that well maintained, but still miles of fun. Didn't quite make that section of road while on a road trip last year (weather put a damper on it) however, I hope to include it at the end of this year. In the meantime I'm enjoying the roads of Far North Queensland.

Your video inspired me to ride the Oxley. Came down from Brisbane 2 days ago and ride it yesterday and am about to head out from the motel and do it all over again.

Awesome video! Much more professionally produced than my review of the road. Matho did a great job!
The Walcha Royal is also my choice of place to stay when I am in the area.
Ever since I accidentally stumbled across the place a few years ago for lunch and got some advice on road conditions from Brad and Toni, I've introduced it to others and stayed there a few times. I also did a video review on the place when a mate and I had the whole place to ourselves. I always feel at home at the Walcha Royal. But it does get quite fresh there!

Great Video! My wife and I are jumping over the ditch in November for a weeks riding but to be honest, I am not sure where to go yet !! we did Blue mountains, Bylong valley way and around that area last year and was great.
Was thinking about Sydney to Walcha via Thunderbolt way then continue up New England HWY maybe,
Then again maybe fly into Melbourne is there great riding around Melbourne?? great ocean road then.....???
Such a big country to many great choices HAHA

Is this better than the Great Ocean Road?

    • @Motorbikewritertv
      @Motorbikewritertv  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The GOR is more scenic, but the ride is spoilt by reduced speed limits, heavy police patrols, too much slow-moving traffic, ignorant drivers who won't let you past and international tourists who forget we drive on the left! The Oxley has more variety, is quieter and has fewer police patrols.
