    How many have you ridden?
    Which roads have we missed and need to add to our next Victorian adventure?

    The legendary Bonang Road from Orbost to Delegate River on the NSW border in either direction is the most challenging of all these roads, though thankfully it is no longer a logging road. It’s fully sealed now (though they’re just doing the second sheeting on the final 10kms between Goongerah and Bonang which has a lot of loose gravel presently), but it’s a bit rough south of Goongerah to Sardine Creek which is earmarked for repair once the second sheet is completed on the new section. The Mitta Mitta pub or the Anglers Rest pub on the Mitta Mitta run are good lunch options. It’s worth taking a run up to Mount Buffalo for the historic Chalet and spectacular views, though it’s a slow, tight climb. A good list you’ve complied overall … 🎉

      Thanks and thanks for the Bonang update. Yeah maybe Buffalo needed a mention, we've done a video on the Horn Lookout - it's excellent.

      Bonang from delegate to Orbost has to be one of the best roads in the country. Legal racetrack.

    Must do Bonang again now it’s fully sealed!

    You've got it pretty right. I wouldn't argue with any of that. If you're looking for more, it'll be minor back roads. Let's see... in the Strathbogies, there's Highlands Road between Seymour and Caveat. Polly McQuinn Road. Harry's Creek Road (bit cut up these days). Ruffy - Longwood East Road. Euroa-Mansfield Road. In the Yarra Valley, there' Buttermans Track, Kinglake-Glenburn Road, the run up Donna Buang from Warburton. Further north, there' Myrtleford-Stanley Road and bits of Buckland Gap. Mount Buffalo Road is a ripper. Lockhart's Gap. Up near the Murray, George's Creek Road, Talgarno Gap and most of Murray River Road. In the east, Buchan-Orbost Road through Bete Bolong when it's clean. Cassilis Road is a good alternative to the Great Alpine. That's keep you busy for a while.

    • @rideday01
      @rideday01  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for this - very much appreciated. A few there I definitely don't recognise so we'll make the effort to check them out. 👍 (I gave Highlands Rd a big wrap in one of our videos, do like Butterman's Track, Donna Buang is OK when not too busy, see the potential in Mount Buffalo Rd if we rode it not in January [so much traffic], was disappointed in Georges Creek Rd [was expecting more], Lockharts Gap always too busy, still that's the route we take, Murray River Rd is always nice!)

    • @ma3stro681
      @ma3stro681 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Just rode the Buchan-Orbost Road on Tuesday. Never again. Very slow run and sketchy surface at times. Also did the Cassilis earlier that day from Omeo. The road surface is just too bumpy, and I’ve got new Ohlins. Would rather faster, open sweepers personally. Agree on the Murray River road from Walwa to the Granya Pass, which is a good run …

  • @rodh4512
    @rodh4512 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Great line up and totally agree with your number 1. I also agree that when “they” drop the speed limits down, it actually becomes more dangerous because time that should be spent looking at the road, is spent looking at the speedo. I remember a few years back riding in VIC with my wife on the back and getting an earful because I kept looking at my GPS - I wasn’t looking at the GPS I was looking at the speedo. And she was absolutely correct, I was looking at it WAY more than could be considered safe but then VIC has stupidly tight tolerances on their cameras and radars…..

    There was one or two I'm not sure if I've ridden on your list but would agree with them all. Order is a subjective thing, although I do agree with what I've known as the Mitta Mitta Rd being no.1. Have a look at roads around Pyalong NW of Broadford as there are some beauties there (I now live in Bendigo). I'm not sure if it should be no.31 but the Walhalla rd is also a good one, although leaf litter and tourist traffic particularly on weekends can be a downer. There are also a couple of other roads around the Grampians that are worth a good explore as well, and as I write, the road to and from Wilsons Prom can be a lot of fun. Thanks for your list.

    • @rideday01
      @rideday01  25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for your comment and I'm also agreeing with everything you said. 30 seconds into the video I also list a bunch of roads that won't be mentioned and they included Wilsons Prom, Highlands Rd (near Pyalong), Tyers Rd (Walhalla), though I didn't mention Walhalla Rd nor Thomson Dam Access Rd also near Walhalla which is also great. 👍
      Damn Victoria, there's just too many great roads. 😀😀

      Thanks. I actually list that road at the beginning of the video. Sort of added that list because I forgot a few roads which I had no footage on or just wasn’t sure. It’d be better than a few - should have done a top 40. 😀 👍

    Your list is now forming the basis of our Vic 2024 “soft” trip with plenty of brewery stops 😂 and we have planned to do your entire list all on this run.
    Will take 3 days to get from Perth to Horsham and kick off at the Grampians and into Otways.

    Great video, the only problem I see is it's like telling everyone your favourite fishing spot. I live in the Yarra Valley and know a lot of these roads. Now we are going to get a lot more weekend warriors from the Burbs who think they are Moto GP riders. A lot of them only know how to ride suburban streets.😢

    • @rideday01
      @rideday01  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks. I hope that's not the case. Another way of looking at it is, those that travel to the Vic roads, might spread-out to different roads instead of just doing the same ones all the time. You're 'lucky' to live in such a wonderful area.

    Just back from 5 days of riding many of the roads you mentioned. I certainly agree with your top 2.

    • @rideday01
      @rideday01  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes - Mount Buffalo Rd. I thought about that and know it can be a lot better than when we've ridden it - usually in January (or December). The traffic is terrible then, but still rode up to the Horn Lookout. That said, I think you're right - it's got distance and surface quality too.

    Great reviews, I am in south eastern Melbourne and will have to do Skyline again as last time I did it there was still gravel sections. I did Licola road as a first longer outing on my FJR1300 a couple of weeks back as part of a nearly 600km day and it was fantastic.

    • @rideday01
      @rideday01  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks. Licola is better known by Victorians (one tipped us) so I don’t hear too many people riding it. Such a fabulous ride!
      We topped it off by doing it from Jamieson which was spectacular over the mountains.

    80 kmh more dangerous than 100kmh. 100%. Need to be looking where you are going, not the speedo. Also overtaking you are on the wrong side so much longer.

  • @chilly2711
    @chilly2711 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I've done maybe 80% of these roads, l like your list.....But, you rank some roads because they can have traffic on them, mmm, ok.
    You think it is safer to do 100, instead of 80 in the twisties, surely 150km would be safer.
    You say some roads have debris on them after bad weather, I'll make sure l don't ride those roads.
    Lastly, maybe it's just the camera, but you seem to be very close to the rider in front coming into corners. Just my point of view.

    • @demery01
      @demery01 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      To clarify, I believe some roads can be safer with a higher speed limit so a rider can concentrate on the road rather than regularly checking their speedo, making sure they’re not going 85 in an 80 for example. The Omeo Hwy is a fine example of this - just because it’s a 100 limit, doesn’t mean you’ll go that fast, you can’t in most places.
      I’m not fussed on busy roads so traffic is a major consideration.
      I’ve ridden Reefton Spur & Eildon-Jamieson with so much debris on them, you couldn’t see any bitumen - this matters to me and I definitely would not ride them again in those conditions. Otherwise, they’re great roads.
      I know I’m too close to my wife when I am videoing her - I do need to fix this, thanks.
