    Hello Jay, stumbled across your reviews a couple months ago, you are one of the best on YT! Love the innovation you are trying to bring to the reviews. Your method to hit a few shots and talk about feel, sound and looks and some comments on flight then followed by hitting many shots but not boring the audience by showing them all BUT reviewing the numbers and trying to discern key performance features is a great format... keep it up!
    Your swing is very similar to mine, in that it looks very one plane like. Could you consider doing a video on your swing?

    Hi Jay, great comparison as usual! Transparent and relevant!
    Will you be able to compare the Srixon ZX5/7 irons to these Mizuno’s? They seem to do a lot of similar things on paper.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there. Srixon over the years have marketed themselves as effectively a cheaper option to Mizuno in the Forged market.
      But now the separation is reducing since the Z5/7/945 days its hard to now justify why would someone use the Srixon over the Mizuno unless are a fan of the Srixon brand (or paid to say such things 😊). They are an amazing brand in general and have done wonders in the ball market, but in my view they should have continued their poor man's Mizuno option to give them a real focused alternative at a lower price point.
      But I guess the trend with all manufacturers unfortunately has seen prices sky rocket over the last 5 years 🙁
      Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍

    You state the MMC won't manage the heel strikes as well as the JPX forged; however, the strike chart shows the %'s on the heel side are far more equal than the toe side. So if the MMC is no good for heel strikes, then neither is the JPX?

  • @wallstreetoneil
    @wallstreetoneil 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The face angle efficiency chart doesn't suggest Toe vs Heal differences between the clubs - but it does highlight the efficiency differences that the Stability Frame gives to Vertical Efficiency benefits where you can see better efficiency both Low & High on the clubface with the 921 Forged versus the MMC. They are both nice clubs - I prefer the more straight lines of the Forged but the feel/sound of the MMC, and for sure the lofts with a 32 degree 7 iron - that 921 Forged with the 31 degrees + lower spin has just turned into a 6 iron

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paul, both are directed at toe miss strikes so don't really work great out of the heel, in that sense they match very well. If any miss is more heel biased then I would potentially suggest the HMB. The added Tungsten in the toe and heel balances the strike forgiveness 👍

  • @okimike5963
    @okimike5963 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for doing this, mate! I’ve been waiting for a long time for someone to compare the MP20 MMC with JPX. Seems the MMC doesn’t get much attention. Was actually looking for MMC vs 921 Tour, so interesting you compared it to Forged. I play an older set of 850 Forged (and sometimes Cobra Forged MB’s which are lovely...if my swing is on) and want an everyday set with a smaller profile and a touch of forgiveness. By the specs and performance I’d think MMC are closer to 921 Tour than Forged, no?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Oki, the Tour is very much like the MP20 Blade, anyone says it isn't quite clearly hasn't hit off centre shots 😊 think of the Tour as a slightly easier MP20 Blade (but marginal). The MMC is very much like the Forged in its design yet the Forged has the additional help. The HMB sits on its own to a certain extent but can be comparable to either Forged or Hot Metal Pro although the Forged and HMP are more suited to toe strike misses where the HMB is much more helpful off the heel.
      Understanding your own requirements before making choices to test and then buy is vital in getting the most out of any new purchase 👍

      @@AskGolfNut, thanks for the feedback. I’ve hit MMC (for fitting) and 921 Tour (quick demo) but both in sim bays only and spaced out a more than a few months, but both felt very nice and had a similar profile (to my eyes). My swing wasn’t the best either day (ideal, actually) but both felt playable in the sim/turf environment. Maybe my bad swing days are better than they used to be- but not good enough for my cobra Forged MBs on a bad day (actually bought these to for practice to improve strike location)! Forged, to me, feels a bit big and chunky in comparison to the MMC and Tour. I guess confidence, preference, and personal “look and feel” are highly subjective, but they look and feel closer to me. Then again, limited experience with the Tour, so better get back for a more dedicated session with them

    I actually have a split set of these two irons, split is at 7/6. the distance gap between my 7 and 6 is at least 20 yards and i'm honestly thinking about buying a 7 in the jpx and carrying two 7 irons because right now I don't have a 180-190 club.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tyler, just a query, what were the lofts you were fitted for as to do an MMC and Forged combo the fitter would have to do the lofts correctly to stop this very thing happening...

    • @tylergervais3207
      @tylergervais3207 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AskGolfNut I actually didn't get fitted so the lofts are all standard. I love both irons and I've been hitting them great, and I've definitely thought about getting the lofts on my long irons weakened to close that gap a bit, but I'm not actually against adding a new club right in the middle of that gap. I feel like i would need to weaken the 6 all the way to about 34 to get it to go just 10-12 yards further than my 7 iron. Similarly, strengthening my short irons would open a big gap between my pitching wedge and gap.

    • @dougsmith8107
      @dougsmith8107 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tylergervais3207 you can still get them fitted. A good fitter will work with you and your irons. I would say strengthen the short and weaken the long irons to shrink the gap. You worry about opening a gap between PW and GW. You can weaken 1deg to 9i, 1.5 to 8i, 2 to 7i... and do the same for the 4,5,6. Just thoughts. There's hope. But getting that 2nd 7i is not a taboo either. Rickie Fowler at one point had 2each of 4 and 5iron to match a gap between the GI 5 iron and the blade 4i.

  • @SteveNashisagod

    Hi Jay, I know this video was about MMC vs JPX Forged but since you talked about the tungsten I have a question about 8-PW on the MMC. I'm considering a combo set with 8-PW MB and 7-4 MMC because the tungsten goes away in 8-PW. How would you compare the forgiveness level between the MB and MMC from 8 to PW? My heart wants to add the blades but rationally I'm trying to decide if I'm losing too much technology/forgiveness compared to the MMC.
    Side question - how would you adjust lofts if I went with that combo? I'm more of a digger than a picker so I'm concerned about lost bounce by bending the 8 and 9 strong. If the bounce change is negligible I'd prefer to bend the MC strong. But ideally I'd like to keep stock lofts if gapping is still okay from 7 to 8.

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Mike. Basically loft starts to override any tech so to speak when looking at 8 to PW hence why most tech gets removed. Apart from the dimensional differences between the MMC and MB that's about it.
      To answer the bounce concern, the sole thickness is so small and Mizuno run quite low bounce as a general rule anyway that a reduction would mean any measurable loss in ground contract forgiveness. Bending anything by 2 degrees to match the other would however see a change in offset that would be more visually noticeable. I've had this many a time in fittings and the general result has been a merging of the two. Bend one strong the other one weak and match lofts with minimal impact to the standards of each 👍
      Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍

      @@AskGolfNut Thanks for the reply! I’ve been enjoying your channel so far - I appreciate how many data points you gather and try to test multiple irons within the set. Looking at the mishits is so valuable for the viewers too. Too many of these channels take a handful of swings on a 7i and make their conclusions based on that. When I demo I often spend time hitting a few bad shots on purpose to judge forgiveness. Keep up the good work!

    • @SteveNashisagod
      @SteveNashisagod 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AskGolfNut Sorry I have a follow up question - you mentioned that the main difference between the 8-PW from the blade and the MMC was dimensional. Would you say there's no difference in sweet spot size because the tech is minimized? Or does size still play a part in sweet spot size?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Size has no effect on actual sweet spot but tech can alter its position in the X and Y axis also perpendicular to that closer and further away from the face, but sweet spot is always finite.
      With just basically dimensional differences there would be minimal difference in forgiveness away from sweet spot as the size change is marginal.
      Without tungsten and only titanium, the higher loft may see a slight increase in spin but again marginal as gearing is minimal in irons with the CG being very close to the face.
      Hopefully that is detailed but not to detailed to be easy enough to understand 👍

    • @SteveNashisagod
      @SteveNashisagod 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AskGolfNut Thank you so much. I have an engineering background so I love the technical detail :)
      I plan to stick with the MB lofts, even if I went 8-PW in MMC, so it sounds like all things are essentially equal from a technical standpoint. This gave me comfort knowing I wasn't shooting myself in the foot with sweet spot forgiveness. I prefer a smaller head at address so this seems like a no brainer to me.

      Agree John, although the 2 clubs, are somewhat different and potentially targeted towards different strike points. Old ideas of suitable clubs based on handicap etc need to be put to bed and more understanding of fitting equipment designed around the golfer in question needs to be had. Basically no premium manufacturer makes bad equipment, some are more heavily marketed than others but so many times sold on the basis of handicap and distance.... I live in hope 😊

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not at all as long as your tenancies towards striking is middle to missing toe side. The MMC with the tungsten weight in the toe allows for more forgiveness in that area, but then heel misses are more punishing. If you are looking to transition from the CF16's I would say initially the HMB would be a better like for like comparison and also more forgiving as a general miss.

    Hi, currently playing Ap3's and have swing speed of 82 - 84 mph for 7i. Miss strike can be either side of centre. Going for a fitting, however would jpx forged in short irons and hmp in 4/5 be better or is mmc and hmb combo any sort of comparison?

    • @AskGolfNut
      @AskGolfNut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Iain, looking at your speed although nit knowing how much dynamic loft opens a question mark, but on first thoughts..... I would say that the Forged in 8 to PW and the HMP in the 5 to 7. Your club head speed and therefore ball speed wouldn't be high enough to make a 4 iron functional. You would even have to test the 5 iron in the HMP to see peak heights and descent angles. Anything definitely less than 40 degrees preferably 45 degrees would need to go either hybrid or fairway wood.
      MMC is for toe strike misses and although would work well for the misses at the toe, it would be penalising for heel misses. If you miss both sides then don't be scared to test the MP20 HMB as the tungsten heel and toe make it very forgiving. Top lines between the HMB and the HMP are very close....
