    Mizuno irons are effectively 21st Century Samurai Swords.
    Meant to cut through the air creating very impressive ball speeds and forgiveness.
    Beautifully designed with great attention to performance.
    Japanese engineering & skilled craftsmanship extraordinaire in a golf club. Lucky us!

    Just got them with modus 105 stiff. Longer and more consistent than my previous T200 also on short irons with weaker lofts (long irons have the same loft). Just a precision Gap to 8 irons are made from 1025E steel (engraved on the hosel). Chromoly is only on 7 to 4 irons. (Index 13). The feel is great. the ball flight is awesome. Awesome review ! this will be a best seller.

    Loved your review of these irons. I wanted to get a set of irons for the new year so Had a fitting a few weeks back and ended up with the JPX921 Forged. We went through a lot of clubs and shafts but it was very clear to see the performance of the 921 forged compared to anything else. What a beautiful looking and performing club with incredible feel👍

    My iron game was weak hitting anything lower than a 7 iron with my 25 year old clubs. With my new JPX 919 HMP's I actually look forward to hitting all of my irons. My 4 iron is easily going 220 yards plus. At some point I'll probably go with the MP-20 MMC/ HMB's so I can get a 2 and 3 iron. I love hitting the long irons now.

    Great intro to this vid Andy, well done. Really enjoyed it. I was expecting the forged head to be smaller than the HMB too as you stated. But looking at the chart comparisons of the various club head measurements on the Mizuno website, these two clubs are nearly identical in blade length (in fact the forged is slightly longer in the 7 iron and the sole width is also wider). Have you had chance to hold them side by side in the flesh to compare? Cheers

    I'm a 5 handicap and play the 919 Hot Metal Pros weakened by 2 degrees (7@32 degrees - same as the 919 Forged) and LOVE them. To my eye, what they've done, is take everything the learned from the Stability Frame from the 919 Hot Metal and put them in the 921 Forged - that is the Mizuno Club I would buy today - I basically think everyone from 30 handicap to Pro can play these - I would weaken the lofts by 1 degree to hit my numbers. These clubs are going to be their #1 selling club - shame they aren't also made in Left

    • @neilbest5554

    • @wallstreetoneil

      @@neilbest5554 what is the loft of your pitching wedge and what are they strength & weaknesses in your game

    • @neilbest5554

      @@wallstreetoneil 45 degrees PW mate. My weekends is definitely my longer irons. Very unpredictable from 6 iron down.

    • @wallstreetoneil
      @wallstreetoneil 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@neilbest5554 I asked about the loft of your PW because 140 isn't exactly short for a PW - but the word 'around' isn't exact so I'm going to assuming you mean carry and not total distance because you really need to know your carry numbers (but you are not a short hitter) - I carry my 919 Hot Metal Pro, bent weaker to 47 degrees 133 yards, and I carry my 919 Hot Metal Pro, bent weaker to 42 degrees, 13 yards further, at 146 yards. I live in Toronto and went to TXG and came up with the following lofts and carries for what I wanted to accomplish - and that is, carry a PW to 5 iron, but spread the lofts from a very old school PW of 47 degrees to a traditional bladed 4 iron at 24 degrees, but played with a modern 5 iron - this would free up a club that I could help the top end of my bag. So my lofts are (47,42,37,32,28,24) -> (PW,9,8,7,6,5) and produces carries of (133,146,159,172,185,195) - so I spread my irons 13 yards apart, except for my last which is 10 by going with larger 5-degree loft spreads until it becomes 4 at the end - traditionally you see this being 5 from PW to 9 and then 4 for a few clubs and then 3 degrees - I am very happy with this setup - and this helps me gap to my wedges because 133 carry PW isn't too far from where I can hit my 52 and I wanted my last iron to get me very close to a 200 carry for the long Par 3 that you will see on most courses. I would think about these ideas when you construct your next set because they have been very, very helpful to me. If the loft of your PW is 45 (slightly stronger) then I will guess that the loft of your 6 iron is likely in the 27-degree area - which is the loft of a traditional 5-iron blade - and this is historically the loft that most average/good golfers can hit decently well off a tee but struggle to hit consistently off the fairway - and it is the 24 degree traditional lofted 4 iron, that they can hit 'ok' off a tee but usually not very well, and not high enough, off the fairway - if this rings a bell, you are in good company with everyone that doesn't play on the tour with very high clubhead spead - and it is this area specifically that instead of thinking of new clubs as the 1st solution to fix existing problems or desire for new things, it is this exact area of the bag, that for almost every golfer on the planet is the very 1st thing in the bag that needs to be done first - i.e. what is the best clubs of any type that you can hit with the lofts of around 27/28, 24/23 & 21/20/19 I list the above numbers with ranges as these will be determined by your gapping/carrying distances but they would be the equivilant of the traditional 5,4 and strong3 irons - these are the absolutely crutial clubs in the bag, that if you can improve, because they are the hardest to hit, offer the biggest. by miles, improvement to your game. A traditional lofted bladed 7 iron is 35or34 degrees, and almost any decently average golfer can hit this loft of club, even in a tiny blade, well enough that they could actually play blades - but with blades, that 7 iron won't always end perfectly - the 8 will but the 7 is where you know you have missed the middle. That bladed set then moves to a 31/30 degree 6 iron. The reason I mention all of this is because this information and experience where golfers go from doing well to struggling is VERY important when you think about building your set. And this brings us to many modern sets moving to 32-degree range 7 irons - where with some modern 'tech' you can now hit a 32-31 degree 7 iron as well as you could hit your 34/35 degree older 7 iron - but you can hit it 170 instead of 155 because of the modern ball and the stronger loft/tech - and that brings us to the crossover range of 28/27 degree modern 6 irons - which are really old 5 irons - and this is really where ALL of your bag building concentration should really be happening. With all of this information, I would try out the following clubs to see what you personally like: Mizuno Forged & Hot Metal combo set, new Srixon ZX7&5s combo set. I would also like to seed you with the idea of a Reverse Combo Set as something to think about during your testing - the idea being that just because a game-improvement set (Hot Metal as an example) doesn't mean you will hit the long irons better just because they have MORE perimeter weighting / larger sole - this is because when we actually hit real golfballs on real golf courses, we have to hit the ball off the real ground and not a perfect astroturf matt which is very, very deceiving with long irons - and thus the idea that sole-width being too wide can actually cause problems in real life when actually hitting real shots - we want the help that these clubs seem to offer for free but if we don't hit them that well off of fairway lies that they are exactly working are they? And this is what happened to me and it is something that Ian at TXG (internet channel) talks about all the time when actually fitting clubs - how do YOU, not ME, but YOU, when you are getting fit, sound through impact and are YOU getting along with the club? I found for ME, that I didn't like my 6&5 Hot Metal Pro irons because the soles where too thick. I didn't know this at the beginning, and it took me a while to figure it out, but I eventually order Mizuno HMB 6&5 irons and my combo set is not Hot Metal Pro PW-7 with HMB 6,5 - and I absolutely love it. The other thing I did, and this is crazy me, but I went from 120 gram S300 Dynamic Gold Steel shafts in my Hot Metal Pros to 110 gram Steel Fiber Graphite shafts in my Mizuno HBMs - these being slightly lighter helped me swing them faster and the kick point of the shafts seems to help me hit them higher - but I personally don't think there is much to that - it is more the clubs feel slightly lighter and I can hit them high and far - and the thinner soles of these 6&5 HMB I just hit far better off of fairways. I with all that said, that is why I would look at the new Srixons (ZX7, ZX5s) because of the tech, the modern lofts and the sole design that promotes efficient turf interaction. The Srixons are soft and bendable so they could very easily be bent for gapping and I would likely go PW-7 with the ZX7s and 6&5 in the ZX5s in my 47-24 lofted specs as a starting point and go from there. For YOU, not me, that 28/27 6 iron may be YOUR last iron at which point you would be looking for that 24-degree Hybrid and then 21-degree Hybrid - I go with the 24-degree iron and then the 21 Degree Hybrid. If you really want to improve, it is critical to be brutally honest about your game in this lofted range. Bring your current 24-degree club to a retail shop/club fitter and hit 10-20 into a launch monitor and then try a few 24-degree hybrids and see if you hit it better - if you do, then your last iron is that 28/27 lofted modern 6-iron, and it may be a different 6 iron (more help) than you PW-7. Hope this helps. Paul

    • @gb8327
      @gb8327 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      GDad 64 chromoly has been used for bicycle frames for many years before Mizuno used it for golf clubs. It is very strong and resilient. I reckon these clubs will outlive even young golfers, as chromoly bike frames have done. For bicycles, the chromoly is treated to make it corrosion-proof and I assume Mizuno does the same.

    By modern standards these are semi-strongly lofted (31 degree 7i). I always thought Andy was a lowish spin player but back spin of 7500 with the 8i is good, especially with the peak height...that 8i will stop on a dime. My one concern would be, based on Andy's numbers only, that there is a lack of consistency of spin between clubs. So the 4i spin of 4000 rpm is excellent, 8i spin of 7500 rpm was also excellent but 6i spin of under 5000 rpm looks odd.
    I am not a big fan of getting too excited about spin numbers, height and descent angles are just as important but what I do like to see is a consistency across the entire set in terms of progression of spin and distance.
    More testing needed!

    • @petekenny3774

    • @ahastar1141
      @ahastar1141 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Idk i always thought Andy was a bit highish spin wise. Also as Pete noted there’s probably some strike variance in there. I would imagine as a fader of the ball his numbers can jump around a bit if loses one a little high and right but he did mention he hit a few that went left and probably had a little draw killing the spin

    Hate to poo poo things but 8i 154 6i 184 4i should be 214 and its just over 200 off a surface way more forgiving than grass. Not gapped its concertinering as long irons only work with much more speed. Need no more than 5i then hybrids.
    This is more a criticism of Miz than you Andy as people keep hitting it further but dont get any better at golf.
