    Great test. Play blades (at the moment MP18) for several years because of the same reason....consistency, knowing what to expect, no surprises and of course the very soft feel and feedback and easy to work the ball. Ordered the JPX 921 Tours because they have the stability frame and for me it showed a little more forgiveness on slight toe misses, with still a great small look, soft feel (though not as buttery as the MP) , workability etc. Keep both sets because the MP18 are with a graphite shaft because of my occasional joint pain but like the feel of light steel shafts better. So keep the MP18 s as backup for the periods were my joints give problems👍🏽

    100% agree with Thomas' reasoning for playing MP-20 MB type clubs.. I gamed both my MP-20 MB's and my Wilson Staff Model Blades back and forth this season and I've come to really rely on consistent distances and being able to work the ball easier. Something I am not willing to give up. When the new Wilson Staff Model CB's come out in January can you please do a comparison of them versus the Model Blades? I'm excited to test the CB's as the lofts are going to be the same as the Blades.

    Love this review. I know this comment is much later than the video date, but if you see it I think something that would be the cherry on the top of a review like this would be to include a JXP921 Hot Metal Pro 8 Iron. It has a 34 degree loft like the players irons in the review, so would love to see the spin rate, overall distance, decent angle, etc. compared to the players 7 iron. Curious to see if you get the same type of performance of the blade 7 irons but with two main differences being workability with the blades, but more forgiveness with the Hot Metal Pro (specifically the Pro because of the more compact head like the blades). Would never want to exclude the Hot Metal Pro 7 iron these review, but add-in the 8 iron. I'm almost 60 and will be picking up the game again this year after recovering from an injury. Set of Hot Metal Pros are on the way.
    Again, this review if fantastic IMO.

    I have tried most of these - skipped the MP20 Blade because I do not consider myself good enough and skipped the 921 Hot Metal (although I have tested the 919 HM in the past). My views are obviously very subjective and I consider myself to be nothing more than a decent club player.
    JPX range is built for blending. 921 T are awesome, although I tested them on a cold day and barely had any feeling in my hands so not ideal! 921 Forged are a definite step up on the 919 Forged and crucially for me have a slightly more compact look - I haven't measured them but the 919 Forged also looked to have a little too long a blade length for my eye. But for me the standout in the JPX line up was the 921 HMB. Great feel, so easy to hit and goes a good distance. Personally I would have 921T in 7i-PW but replace the 5i &6i with the 6i & 7i in the HMB (might need to adjust the lofts slightly). I did try the 921 HM Pro which again is great club but for me pointless given how good the HMB was
    Then there is the MP20 MMC. As I currently play i210s this is close to a directly replacement, i210s are a degree weaker. I loved this club. I suspect better players than I would play the blades in 7i-PW and MMC for the longer irons.
    That brings me to my problem. I could play 2 different sets: MP20 MMC throughout or a blend of 921T & HMB. I really do not understand why Mizuno has 2 completely different ranges

    With the JPX HMP 7 iron carrying 200 yards, I would love to see how Thomas would gap the bottom of the bag if he were forced to play this set....5 wedges? I think the top end would be good to see too as the 4 iron might be carrying 240-250! I understand that he could blend these at the top end with the more precision models further down the bag but as an exercise in fitting I think it would be a real challenge to fit him into the HMP only. Great content as always. Thanks.

    Both my son and I play MP-20 HMB irons. They are amazing irons. Really soft with a great feel, yet they pack a lot of forgiveness. They have a slightly thicker top line and a bit of a longer profile compared to the MP-20 MB, but that's just the price of more forgiveness. Final comment...Grip weight can affect the ball flight by moving the CoG up or down slightly and I saw a wedge review where a heavier grip was used to bring the ball direction back in from right to centre, something I never considered before. • @TRIKushbeachside

    It pretty much just comes down to loft and how much you pepper the face. If you can consistently hit shots inside the grooves and have high enough swing speeds to get the ball in the air you can play pretty much any model. If you really can’t hit the ball than you need a big iron but if you hit inside the grooves more times than not it just comes down to what you like the look and feel of.

    the spin rates are all really low but in particular the mp20 mb spinning @ 5,300 for a 7 iron is around 2,000 rpms lower than where it would ideally be. 😳Is that a preference thing to spin your irons that low to get a lil extra carry? or is that a stock hit? just curious. 🤙🏽

    I've never seen a reviewer that understands spin numbers. The HM and MP 20 had 800 rpm difference in spin but also 11 yards difference in carry. You can't compare the spin numbers to each other just because the number on the club, which is completely arbitrary, is the same. You wouldn't pull out the HM from 190 yards just like you wouldn't pull out the MP20 from 205. You have to compare spin, descent angle at a given distance regardless of the number on the bottom.

  • @jonathanstoner677
    @jonathanstoner677 ปีที่แล้ว

    No one comments on spin numbers based on feel. It was obvious that he was a blade player and would be the most positive about them, biased about the consistency for him, not r.o.w.. 5 yards of carry distance differential is nothing. Ignored the fact that the blade went 39 feet to the left and the 921 forged went 8 feet left. He really tried to just compare mp 20 to the hot metal which is dramatic but not very helpful. For the average golfer, let's say better than a 20 handicap, the blade might be attractive but the 921 forged or even 20 MMC might be more practical. At the end, you should have just given us the numbers, your analysis was moderately helpful.

    I have absolutely no trouble controlling the shape of a shot wether its gonna fade or draw i wish I could hit it a little higher with straight shots and misfits i can fade a 7 iron 40 yards or hook a 7 iron 70 yards i have trouble with starting the ball off on the correct line because I CAN curve it soooo much, if anything i "overshape" the ball more often than dont get any shape on it at all. Makes zero sense to me saying that those more forgiving irons just "stayed" out to the right for him seems like rubbish. I cant imagine wanting an iron that makes it "easier" to shape a golf ball I have a WAY WAY WAY harder time not OVERSHAPING a ball. i have a harder time finding the middle of the iron every single shot as well. I want the tightest left to right I could find. His iron that had the best distance dispersion also had the worst left and right dispersion and by a bunch. So you would rather miss left and right that much rather than having 7 feet dispersions in distance compared to 3 feet??? The hmb is the tightest left and right by half the distance left and right and they are right on the target line. With only 2.4 yards of distance dispersions... im just wondering for my game which would I would rather choose I want to hit the ball higher by about 20 feet on my 5 4 and 3 irons highest iron I hit is my 6 iron. Im gaming the jpx850 forged right now is it worth the 1000 dollar investment or am I essentially getting the same iron in the hmb? Im a 4 handicap but have trouble getting the longer irons high enough to stick i can hit my 5 iron 200 yards but when it gets there it would be taking out your teeth lmbo. 7 irons 170-180 with normal not loft jacked irons. I just want forgiving straight high flighting irons. shots.

    • @2ndswing
      @2ndswing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the feedback Matthew! It sounds like you're a skilled player and swing with some good speed. If you're looking to hit the ball higher, one of the players cavity iron models such as the JPX 921 Tour with a higher loft could help increase the launch angle for you. The trade off there unfortunately is that, generally, higher lofted irons are less forgiving and may be more punishing on mis-hits. Do you have a consistent miss (hook or slice) or do you miss both ways? Perhaps an adjustment to your lie angle could help as well.

The reason the balls were further Right is because the weight in the toe of these clubs causes the dynamic toe to be more drooped at impact - so all you have to do is adjust the lie angle of the clubs to have the same dynamic lie/toe at impact and all the clubs would line up from their average L/R perspective - the standard deviation of these distributions is more complicated (turf interaction, club stability, etc)

    Who buys these club types seems like there’s a lot of clubs for low handicappers with the hot metal being for mid to high handicapoers, only 4.6% of golfers have a handicap below 10,
