  • The Mizuno Pro 225 irons are the longest, most forgiving model in the Mizuno Pro 220 series, featuring a hollow-body construction and Grain Flow Forged 4135 Chromoly. With that said, the Mizuno Pro 225 irons fit into the players-distance iron category. But how do they stack up against previous Mizuno irons in the players-distance category?
In this video, 2nd Swing's Drew Mahowald and Jackie Johnson test the new Mizuno Pro 225 irons against the Mizuno JPX 921 Forged and JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro irons and, with the help of Trackman, identify the similarities and differences.

Thanks Jackie. This was really useful. I love the 2nd swing comparison videos. Unfortunately i live in Australia otherwise I would visit you guys for a fitting. I am due for an upgrade and have had my eye on mizuno irons for a couple of years now. This has helped me in what looking for. Cheers Warwick

this is the review I have been waiting for. Thank you! I tested the 225 and the forged as well. swinging avg 84MPH 7 iron and the carry and ball speed on the forged were about 5 yards further and consistent vs the 225 even with more loft. forged just felt hotter off the face.

Always a good video with Jackie. Now I would like to see Jackie test 5 drivers: Ping 425, TaylorMade Stealth Plus, Callaway Rogue ST Max, Cobra LTDx or LTDx Max, and especially the Mizuno ST-Z!
I would be most interested in seeing the dispersion comparisons. I expect the carry and total distances will be close.

Definitely want to try the 225 as I was watching the video yesterday for Average Golfer and he was gushing over them, chucking out his pxg's for them.
    Great job Jackie!

The sound was interesting, to my ear both the Forged 921 and the 225 sounded much quieter and softer off the face than the 921 HMP

Forged vs not so you're right. The hot metals sound a bit sharper, however the feel is very close. Feel more like a forged club than not.

This was the best comparison by far. I’m currently play jpx 900 hot metal and I want to move up to more of a players iron with my hc dropping and learning how to hit different shot shapes. It’s going to be Mizuno no doubt and when I do get fitted I’ll still try both 921 forged and 225 but this video gave me more detail of the difference between the 2 that I have wanted to know since day 1. I have purchased from you before and always have been pleased and this video proved to me that doing business with you is no mistake!!!

Never been so excited to see a review! JPX921 forged and 223’s are both on my short list. Maybe 225’s or possible mixed set. The 223’s remind me of the Ping i210’s looks wise

I tried out the old MP-20 HMB vs. the 921 Forged and found the thinner more compact 921 was much easier to swing and hit. Seems like similar goings on here.

I guess the main problem with Mizuno is availability. I was fitted into jpx, waited 6 weeks, and today I was informed that the shop is still waiting for some clubs ordered over 2 months ago, and they can't say when they will be made. Apparently, Mizuno has some problems in the factory... That is really bad on brand. Imagine ordering clubs in early January and getting them in the middle of the season. I guess - this year it is better to choose another brand.

  • @wallstreetoneil

One of the things this video highlights in spades, is that the quality of strike and the club's sole through impact is king; the 921 Forged, by the sound of impact alone, won by miles. A blind fitter would have picked the 921 Forged just with their ears. Until you hit a club, you have no idea if the overall design of the club will fit your swing. Is the 921 Forged the best-looking club? Nope - the 225 kills it in looks - but I know both a scratch player and a 20 handicap that play it and love it because it just works.

  • @palaxfan

Thanks for this, Jackie! This video couldn't have come at a more perfect time. I recently purchased the T200s and I love them, but I've been hearing rumors of the damage that the plastic cover on the back on the club could potentially run into. I'm now looking at the Forged so I'm glad to hear it feels similar to the T200.
Random question, how's the plastic plate on the back of your T200s? Any wear or damage, yet?

    • @atxrich
      @atxrich 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I swapped out of the T200 for MP 225. The plastic cover on the back of the T200 made it sound so loud and alters the perceived "feel" of the club. The Mizuno Pro range is in a completely different league. Worth a demo. I'm pretty sure Titleist will completely revise the T200 design in the 3rd generation.
