Yeah my gpu tdp does same thing. It maxes out at 85 watts. If I unplug it and plug it back in it will go back to normal boost up to 100 watts. Very odd.

There's a setting in Armory Crate to turn off keyboard blinking during sleep (it's a feature, not a hardware or software bug...but that doesn't make it an less annoying).
my m16 does this too with rgb lol
I refreshed the Best Buy page for the white version (32 gb, 3080) for a couple weeks. It finally came in stock and I bought it. A day later, Best Buy canceled the order due to no units at the warehouse. Luckily, I got the version in your video on a UPS truck headed my way right now. :) So, yep, availability...
I have a fix for the fan noise. Turn your refresh rate down to 60 hz and it will not make any noise (as long as your not gaming)
This video saved my sanity! Not sure if I would have ever realized needing to restart with turbo turned on first.

Any backlight bleed or benzel creaking? My benzel at the bottom on left and right has slight separation which causes a creaking sound
What you are dealing with is the lack of the mux switch. Hence the need for a restart

I have 2022 and why does the fans keep going on and off in sleep mode, and gets hot when in sleep mode, I have to put it in hibernate all the time.
Thanks! love your reviews. About the blinking keyboard, you can actually fix it in AC software. go to device->system and then lighting->settings and tick Sleep off 😊

1st thing I did when I got this laptop. It's a "feature" asus added through their Armory Crate software.
On by default but at least you can disable it. Too bad the box you have to untick to disable it is buried deep in the armory crate software where most people won't find it unless they do their research.
Underrated review
A local Best Buy in Florida where I live had this laptop Open box in excellent condition for 1,149 dollars. I am going to pick it up today. They have the regular price as 1849. It’s marked down so low due to being on clearance and because it’s an open box item.
elllo i have the same laptop and i m facing the issue of overheating i got my laptop by only a month and in warranty i got motherboard replaced but still it continues to heat . So in 10 min if it is going 96 degree wat should i do
I'm so confused as to how to update stuff on this laptop. There are 3 apps, MyAsus (and mine looks different from every youtube video that I see of it), Armory Crate, and Radeon software. Why couldn't this all be combined into one thing?
Anyways, can someone break down for me what apps I should check for updates for what components?
I've been having similar issues with my laptop. I've been updating it using MyAsus app. For the Nvidia updates I been using Nvidia Geforce experience app.

The lower score you got in timespy is due to nvidia optimus.
If there is option to disable it , try disabling it and make a video on it.
supposedly u can only bypass optimus by adding an external monitor. Dont quote me on that though

You can change it in the Asus Armoury Crate software, click on Aura. The best mode for gaming is turbo mode, although if you want to get the best temperatures, according to other users you might have to set a manual fan curve. I personally don't think it's necessary

Help me decide which laptop I should get.
So I have 3 options the first one being Legion 5 with R7 4800h+GTX 1660ti and the second is HP Omen 15 with R7 4800h+RTX 2060, the third is Legion 5 with R5 4600h+RTX 2060. Which should I get for the same price?
I wanted to get the Legion 5 with Ryzen 7 4800h+RTX but it costs around 180$ more, so that's off the option.
Never cheap out with PCs. Just save more and get the better one that you're looking at. In the long run buying cheap costs more money bc you'll be upgrading more and more.
i wouldn't bother with the omen... so that leaves the first one since it has the faster processor. Legion R7
So couple things with my g15. When I updated to the newest Nvidia driver doom eternal won't play it says can't detect video card. If I go back to older Nvidia driver works fine. Other thing is when I turn it back on after it being off or on sleep I only get max 85 watt on gpu. But if I unplug power cord and plug it back in it will go up to 100w again. Very weird. My Temps get high too up to 95 on call of duty. But yeah I'm having same issue as you on the gpu tdp watt thing. Its a very nice screen! I tried the Alienware 15 r4 was on sale $1899 best buy rtx 3070 i7 model 1080p 300 hz and I think the asus QHD with better colors looks much better. Definitely a trade off tho the Alienware 3070 could boost to 140 watts and its direct connect to gpu. So no optiumus hit on frame rate like g15. It was a tough call the asus g15 looks much nicer to me
I have mine on a cooling pad and CPU never goes in the high 80s and GPU stays in the 70s or lower.
Try disabling your integrated gpu and enabling it again, it will force the renderer to be rtx

Big chonky gaming laptop exist for having higher TGP and better cooling system for long run usage. I mean it depends on how they use their laptops, as whether you move around a lot or not. Personally i prefer thicker laptops due to higher performance.
I'm currently owning Strix G17 2021 variant and despite it's 2.7KG, i do enjoy my time using it (although i wish we had WQHD variant for our market).
Very true, I personally don't need the extra performance when I'm gaming on the go. I bought a Desktop PC for when I'm at home, so a mid-range gpu is all I need in a laptop
@@bronztech True, for my case, I didn't have a desktop PC at home. So that could be another reason why i prefer laptops that can close performance to desktop counterpart

Is the keyboard hot since the exhaust heat seems like flowing up to the screen? Will the screen be damaged because of this?

I am about to acquire this laptop for programming, illustration and some gaming. Do you think it will be worth it in 2022 or are there better options? Or do I wait for the 2022 model?
the 2022 model will be more expensive guaranteed. I'm thinking it will be 300$ more expensive, and once the new models come out this model will become cheaper. The new models with ryzen processors shouldn't be much better in performance, and the Intel models for 2022 might be worth it.

Ive also seen issues with consistency in performance on this and my previous Rog laptop. No thermal throttling, but even on turbo/performance mode, a game will sometimes have trash performance until I reboot. It's a Rog quirk.
As for CPU temp, if I balls to the wall max everything out, I cap out at 87°. Notsure if that's the thermal cap, if so that's a bit low as most laptops cap at around 95°

This is Asus trying to compete with razer and their blades. This performs about as expected in games like minecraft rtx and quake rtx (around 30-40fps 1440p) (60-80 fps in 1080p)
When does the keyboard blinking issue happen? Screen off? hibernation mode?
Screen off, got the same problem but solved with AC Lightining pannel
Do you use a dock? I just realized the g15 doesn't have thunderbolt 3... Trying to figure out the best way to connect it.. Been looking at the razer dock but not sure if it will work for two 1440p monitors.
Unfortunately I don't use a dock - I have to plug in a USB hub like this one (affiliate link) amzn.to/3G66Pcf
Then I just use a USB C to Displayport to connect to my ultrawide monitor, G-Sync works with this one: amzn.to/3G6sGA5
I find docks to be very fickle and I think most don't support G-Sync which is a bummer.

My g15 doesn’t have good battery life. When gaming it’s like 2 hours max. And not gaming it’s like 5 barely. Is there something wrong?
Unfortunately when you game on battery expect to have on average about an hour and a half of battery life. That is the case for all gaming laptops :(
I got 10k a few times on timespy... I also get max 80-82c on CPU and 70C on GPU.

I got a small feint blue vertical line randomly directly in middle of screen .. I bought this computer because of the color range and QHD and then this happens .
It doesn’t prevent me from doing anything but I can’t enjoy gaming on it anymore since I can’t forget about that blue vertical line 🤦♂️
That’s unfortunate, sorry. If you can’t exchange it from Best Buy file an RMA with asus directly - they’re pretty good with warranties especially with panel issues
I bought mine and when ever I put the lid down and leave it, I find the laptop hot to touch all over like it was running an intensive task, does anyone have such a problem?
Anyone else having a distorted speaker issue, my speakers sound awful after I updated some software
If your speakers seem muffled, try turning the startup sound back on (if you turned it off). My speakers sounded terrible until I did this.

You can - but in my experience I was only able to get 100hz max refresh rate on external TVs

Have you experienced backlight bleeding? I can see it on the top right corner of my unit and it is very annoying.
Yeah, some light bleeding but I personally don't care about it too much. All IPS panels I've worked with have some sort of bleeding, if I were you I'd just get an OLED panel laptop if you care about backlight bleed

Yeah, I’ve tested about 20+ IPS panels on laptops and monitors, all have some sort of backlight bleed but not too extreme to the point where it bothers me. You might just be sensitive to it
I have the same issue on mine. Top right corner. It is a little annoying but I only notice it when I'm in the home screen because my wallpaper is black. When I'm doing other things I don't see it. I didn't notice it when I had the Razer Blade 3070 Advance QHD but it's not worth the $750 price difference after taxes. So I'll live with the G15 because it's an excellent device. No other issues with my device so far.
@@tjrocker Owner of a G15 3060 model here, have some bleeding in the top middle section, not that much but it doesn't really bother me, but yeah pretty much most IPS panels with slim bezels will have bleeding, uts just the technology, it's rare to get a panel with no bleeding.

Are you comfortable with half sized arrow keys on g15?that is the only thing I dont like about this device. my current laptop has full size arrow keys and I use them a lot.I'm kinda worried about getting used to them.

I Have to disagree with you, an $1,800 PC with this poor thermal performance is not acceptable to me, I have been testing my G15 for the past week and it gets in the 60's just by surfing the net., gets in the high 70's when I use external monitor and have both displays on, when I disable the G15 display goes back in the 60's , the worst is when I import lots of RAW files from my Sony A7RiV, it gets in the 80's , now I tried the same with my friend's MacBook Air M1, and guess what....the MBP imports faster and stays cool , totally cool, I was surprised to hear that someone can use a lap top with temps in the 90's, that is a BBQ pit !!! , I am not too much of a gamer, all that I ever did was flight simulator, I was buying this device assuming that the RTX 3070 Graphics and AMD G9 was going to be the best for Lightroom and Photoshop, not according to my tests.......so, I am returning this unit next week, keep your eyes open if you want to have an open box discounted from Best Buy !! .. QC is another gripe I have , the Mute key does not work.....we tried with their sup[port desk to fix and is not softer related, so, I was told to take back to Best Buy Geek Squad to fix it, not big deal, can be fixed, but the thermals ....a deal breaker for me......the only way I could use this is using an external monitor....but, then. in the case , is no longer a lap top......is a desk top .......other than that, the PC is, in my eyes, is beautiful. I like the keyboard, the top cover is top notch, like the weight, speakers are not that bad and plenty of ports (missing thunderbolt and a full size SD card reader ) it is going to be har to let it go, but, I can't live with this furnace ....where I live is plenty hot !!1

@@xxpatrick204xx no I mean the manufacture built my computer wrong my screen it’s like coming off well not my screen the corners of it n it makes a cheap plastic noise when I open it up but it runs smooth I got a couple Trojan viruises my speakers keep pooping but you knowwith the rtx and ryzen I play smooth with some frame drops n a dead pixel in my screen the 2000+$ are worth it ig
I have G15 3070 and it never wants to use more than 60 wats of power for the GPU and it pisses me off.
Make sure you’re plugged in and on “turbo” mode on Armoury Crate. Also make sure your power settings is max and nvidia control center you choose high performance

I even have it set up on manual with taking some power from the cpu so the gpu gets more power and that worked for a few months and of course Asus does some dumb ass updates and just breaks everything. I wish I would have just went with the Lenovo legion line of laptops.

@@bronztech So, I did a test with my G15 Ryzen 9 5900HS,RTX 3070 and 40gb of ram vs my Ryzen 52600x,GTX 1660 ti and 16gb of ram in World of tanks all the same settings using the same screen and the laptop was only getting like 50fps and my desktop was getting 144 no problem. I reset the laptops OS and I'm now getting close to 200FPS so, something was really wrong with my OS I guess.
