      Don’t be discouraged. Most laptops cap at 2TB , and they recommend 1TB per slot probably because of the board components. Use a power efficient Hynix P31 which is the best pci3 ssd for laptops out there.

    1) 9:31 You state the machine is pitched to be upgradable (SSD). Where do you find that information?
    2) Any issues installing the 32 GB Crucial Ram? Asus' website seems to indicate that the max amount of Ram is 24 GB.
    3) The Sabrent Rocket Q is a PCIE gen 3 drive. The Sabrent Rocket Plus is PCIE gen 4. What if you put in two 4TB Sabrent Rocket Q?
    4) In regards to the error booting into the Rocket Q you could try to do a safe boot and then restart into a regular boot.
    5) Did you try running the machine with the Rocket Q and the Rocket Plus with clean Windows installations?

    Maybe it is a combination of factors? Power draw, ESD and not disconnecting the battery when poking around?

  • @the_borv
    @the_borv 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Most fast nvme drives will become too hot in this laptop as they draw more power. That 's the issue. The drives that comes with these (some variations) draw little power and don't become too hot. Replacement/additional drives needs to draw as little power as possible. Hynix Gold P31 and Intel 660p & 670p are examples of relative low power drives that will work well in these laptops. There might be some issues with installing larger than 2tb drives in these as well, where some run into problems but others don't.

    Excellent content, as of recent im experiencing the same problem as far as blue screen of death after i cloned to another 1tb sabrent nvme thats a little faster on my Aero 15 3070 when i have it on battery only it does it, when its plugged in it works like a champ, so ive been thinking of going back to the original drive which im 100 percent certain it will fix the problem. I have a 1tb samsung drive as secondary drive and the 1tb Sabrent as primary so you have a reference of what im working with. I also believe something might have gotten corrupted in the cloning process for this to happen, I would also point out that a clean install of windows onto your 4TB sabrent drive might also fix the problem as well but i would only do that as last resort.

    I'm coming to this after just resolving a massive issue with mine. I noticed a general slowing of the machine, higher temps, higher clock speeds for no reason, etc.
    Based on system interrupt errors, the internet said it was a driver issue. I ran every tool and uninstalled-reinstalled every possible driver, removed every external device, etc, still no solution. So I reinstalled Windows from scratch--the issue persisted!
    Then I decided to change my C drive from the stock 1TB to a Samsung 2TB, and it's like new again. Very strange.

    Loved your vid. I too have a AZG15, and now into my 2nd year with it, and have had no issues whatsoever with it. The best laptop I've ever owned. Talking personally, if i'd gone through the same process as you, i wouldn't be too quick to put the fault on the laptop. I too would probably conclude it was a power draw issue, but would question first the power demands of the SSD, and consider trying other reputable brands. I've added a Crucial 2TB SSD to my laptop with no issues at all.

    As far as I know although the first 16GB are in DC, that does not mean that the OS prioritizes that section of the RAM (after all it is random access and having more fragmentation logic would make no sense and decrease speeds). So whenever you mix your DC with some SC your overall average speed decreases, not only the speed of additional RAM.

    Since purchasing this 21 version, the area around the power button was very hot during gaming sessions, even though the temps were within expectations. Last night I pulled the heatsink assembly and laughed... Most of the liquid metal intended for the cpu was against the barrier, leaving the cpu to bake. Cleaned and installed PK-3. Reported temps are about the same, but the exterior surface of the laptop is now only warm and fans aren't pushing as hard.
    Also the bios may make drives over 2tb unstable. I run the 2tb Crucial p5.
    32gb GSkill sodimm for all the memories
    Removed the metal shims from the back cover and used strips of 400 grit ceramic sandpaper to clear flashing from the bottom vents

    I got this machine, my 2 cents:
    - Clean install windows,
    - Spent like 30GB to dualboot with linux, just to compare ur experience with what happened to ur hard drives (I do this, so I am sure if both OS failed means something went erong with my drives). Also in linux you have lots of options to debug what happened wrong with ur drives.
    My only problems with this machine so far is I need to install a custom linux kernel to get my keyboard backlight control work properly, other than that, all almost perfect. I even play shadow of the tomb raider in linux and results in significant performance increase (i hv no idea why, the fans are quiter in linux) and I can reach 128fps in average for full ultra graphics setting, despite it runs in with proton.

    Seems like there could be a compatibility issue with Sabrent drives based on reading some people's comments. I recently purchased the G15 and installed a 2 TB NVMe SSD from Inland (which I realize is not exactly a blazing fast SSD) in the second slot and have had no problems whatsoever. Seems others are having a similar experience with other brands like Samsung SSDs. Likewise, people with Sabrent drives are having the same issues you are. Maybe it's just that Sabrent drives require more power than the G15 was designed to provide over NVMe and perhaps there will be a firmware update in the future that can fix issues, either from Asus or from Sabrent. If I end up seeing similar issues with my "el cheapo" Micro Center special drive, I'll update, but so far so good. Best of luck to you.

    I think the Asus Zephryus G15 is an over-hyped device. I wanted to get my hands on one of these, but instead went with a Gigabyte Aorus 15G. Unfortunately, it has a 10th gen 8-core Intel CPU coupled with an RTX 3070 (105 watt max), which cannot win against the Ryzen CPU. However, I have installed two new NVME drives in it and it works great. Also, there are two ram slots (no soldered ram), so I get dual channel memory. I think we will see better offerings soon from other laptop manufactures paring AMD Ryzen CPU's with Nvidia 30 series GPU's soon anyways (though availability will be rough)

    My machine was randomly dropping power when chassis become hot after long time of use. Problem firstly started appearing only on battery but later it also occurring when plugged.
    What was strange it was only occurring only when I wanted to move laptop or use its keyboard. Later I found out that problem was with keyboard short circuiting. Some electrical tape underneath keyboard fixed the problem and I hadn't any bsod problems since that fix.

For some reason, I keep being bothered by the Alienware’s 1080p on a 17 inch display. Just seems blurry and makes me lean toward the G15. Sometimes though, having the higher watt GPU on the Alienware is also tilting me that way. 20-50% more FPS at times in games.

    I have the same config as you, minus the Sabrent drives. A few suggestions. If you are running into these issues on battery power, and you've determined that it's a power draw issue, have you considered using a portable USB-C battery charger not necessarily to power charge, but rather smooth power consumption? If you are on the threshold of power consumption limits, then I'd consider trouble shooting as though I was overclocking a GPU. Once I've found the threshold for stability I dial it back until I've found a good balance between performance and stability. May be a similar scenario here. Battery power limits thresholds, which makes sense, so pushing a machine beyond what your power will allow will tend to cause issues. Also, have you disabled turbo boost in silent mode? I mean really disabled it, like in the registry? It makes a HUGE difference, and likely draws a LOT less current when the CPU doesn't boost. The machine also runs quieter, cooler, and (for me anyways) without any performance loss. (I've actually seen performance GAINS by manually disabling CPU boost). If you haven't tried it, here is a link to the same process on a G14. th-cam.com/video/xO227WcpOKw/w-d-xo.html

    • @gregnewland2651
      @gregnewland2651 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, when I worked in VFX we had monster rendering machines that used (at the time) top of the line Quadro GPUs. We had to work on a particular project for VR that required a specific plugin for Nuke, and when we tried performing a certain process (I don't remember which) it would cause the render farm machines to hard reset. We couldn't figure it out for the life of us, until I asked how many watts the PSUs in the machines were rated for. I realized with a bit of napkin math that we were near the draw limit from the wall, so I requested a larger power supply for one of the machines. We tested it and it worked flawlessly every time. So SOME function was causing a power draw spike which would push the PSU beyond limit causing it to panic and hard reset. Maybe the Radeon integrated card also has some weird power draw fluctuations under certain conditions that cause instability. Sounds far fetched, but I've seen WEIRD things happen with my own eyes from insufficient current, so I thought I would throw it out there as food for thought while you trouble shoot. Keep in mind that you are pushing your machine much farther than the average consumer will be pushing their units, so you are likely the exception rather than the rule. But, as I've said, mine is also upgraded with a Crucial 32GB DIMM and dual SSDs, and I am running without any issues, so take that for what it's worth. Best of luck!

    I would do a fresh install of windows with the new drives before you do anything else. You cloned the original drives and are using the machine with whatever drivers/software were loaded for that drive. Since you already have the original drive in its original state, use a new drive with a fresh install of windows (we all know how buggy windows 10 is) and see how it runs then. A lot of problems are resolved from doing a fresh install. Also, update your bios to the latest one if you havent already done so. You can also check to see if "XMP" is enabled in the bios to make sure your memory is working to its maximum timings, this especially helps on AMD based systems. I had this laptop and can say that I never had a problem with it. I was also running it stock so there is that. I only returned it because I decided to get the Asus Zephyrus Duo which has the AMD 5900HX. I dont know why you keep saying it has anything to do with AMD's processor because I have NEVER had a problem with any RYZEN laptop or desktop configuration. 9 times out of 10 it is a software issue. Reinstall windows and see what happens. Just be sure you download all the drivers/software from ASUS's website before you do so you have all the updated software and drivers.

      I'm running Arch on mine with two drives without issue. The hangup when installing Linux (or anything really) is that the factory drive ships in slot 1 and the empty slot (on the left in the video) is actually slot 0. Maybe your installer wound up trying to install a bootloader there? You'll also have problems installing Ubuntu, the firmware package on something like Ubuntu 20.04 is *way* too old to support a Cezanne laptop. Try Fedora or EndeavourOS (an easy to install Arch based distro) and you shouldn't have issues.
