    It is kind of sad to see people complaining about the TGP of this G15... But to me this was the perfect laptop for my case; something that can play games at demanding settings but it is still portable and has great battery. I was using a 2020 Blade 15 Base 2070 and thought that machine was great, but the battery of 4-5 hours killed it for me. Then finding this G15 at bestbuy for $1630 open box and updating all drivers to fix thermals and speakers issues made it the best laptop I could find for that price.
    People need to understand that some laptops are made with a target audience in mind, those of us who are willing to sacrifice some performance for a machine that can be taken on the go.

    • @mini9503
      @mini9503 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Core issue isn't low the TGP, but that it drives up the prices of regular TGP and Max-P GPU laptops, because manufacturers can charge you more due to having to clarify the wattage variety, and thus creating this perception of premium on higher wattage. That's why some people are upset how ASUS knowingly changed things.
      Prior to this year for instance, a same laptop used a standard 100W 2070 Max-P and upgrade would mean 80W 2080 Max-Q. Now you get the same 80W 3060 Max-Q, 80W 3070 Max-Q and a 80W 3080 Max-Q in an identical chassis, when they could've easily used a 115W 3060 and a 95W 3070 and lowered the price per performance.
      Essentially you're paying more for less with ASUS this year, because all their "budget" options are low-watt Max-Q GPUs, and "premium" with full TGP Max-P are paired with already more higher quality hardware and design. Normally with Gaming/Workstation laptops, the difference in price for same GPUs came from variation in hardware such as Build Quality, Battery, Display, Speakers, etc, not ambiguous differences within the same GPU that consumers can't really compare before purchase without researching reviews.

      @@mini9503 that isn’t an Asus G15 exclusive issue though; that’s an Nvidia issue. Just because most manufacturers haven’t put out their 3000 series line is no excuse. The few that are out, MSI and Asus certainly do. And others like Razer and HP in their omen line put out a 3070 with an aging weak intel processor that pales in comparison to the competition, with absurd prices, and performances that are more in line with laptop offerings of two years ago (as far as their intel processor offerings are concerned).

      I understand you. For this price point, I cant fault this laptop. I don't expect a performance beast. Personally, I'm glad there is so much variety as it gives the consumer the choice of which laptop suits his needs according to the money he wants to spend. I'm glad you are happy with your G15 :)

    I must say one of the design features I love with these G14 and G15 is the more square-ish look , I am really tired of seeing laptops that are thin and weird at the front just trying to look like an ultrabook or something. Also the pricing on these seems to be pretty awesome!

    I found it interesting watching coverage of this laptop as a spectator of tech journalism. Dave2D sort of started the hype train on this one (I think he did it honestly) and it became a highly anticipated laptop, so other channels and sites needed to cover it. User-focused reviews (rather than performance) focused on the annoyances, and so there's a little bit of a backlash against the G15 now. I'm not making any judgements here, I just found it interesting to track.

    The popping issue was also a problem in the original G14. I had that issue on my first one and had to return it, and get a 2nd one. My 2nd one now has a stuttering issue which affects EVERYTHING (sound, visual, keyboard lighting etc.) But it only happens like once a day, and it only lasts for half a second and it's harmless. Better than speaker popping, that's for sure

    • @joesalyers
      @joesalyers 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      It's speed and versatility. You can have an external SSD run as fast as an internal M.2 or hook up a desktop GPU to your laptop or even daisy chain them together. Thunderbolt is faster as well for things like audio interfaces so recording audio with the lowest latency possible. Basically thunderbolt is a PCIe x4 Gen3 slot on a cable. That runs 40 gigabit per second. Also lets say you have a soldered on drive in your laptop and it dies you could boot from an external Thunderbolt SSD an it would be the same speed as the internal drive that died. Thunderbolt is great if you need the expandability and speed you get from PCIe slots in a desktop but you are stuck using a laptop.

Alot of these laptops look very well on paper but when it comes to standard use, unless your doing full research on quality control issues along with specs, you could still be taking a shot in the dark buying some of the available options. I had the g14 which i wanted to love, but the issues with faulty battery life, slow response time, and thermals was enough for me to return it to best buy. I have an issue, the G15 colors the screen of a strange green tint, everytime I go fullscreen with certain apps/softwares, for example:
    -in Teams, in a meeting, I go full screen and it goes green as soon as I move the mouse cursor. (if I don't move, it stays in the ArmouryCrate setting I chose, for example I use the "Default" setting)
    -in game, while playing for example Pillars of Eternity (but is the same with games in general), same thing happen. Actually, without moving the mouse cursor, even.
    In both cases, if I press fn+V to go through the different settings, and get back to Default, the screen temporarily shows the "Default" colors setting, but in half a second it goes back to the green tint.
    People say to uninstall Armoury Crate, but I tried, and I'm left with the green tint (and without the possibility at that point to scroll back to Default or anything bcs of course those settings are deleted as well..)
    What to do? Thanks!!

      Well, first there's the aesthetic aspect, but more importantly, the white lighting on white keys is problematic as it hinders your ability to see the keys. In a well lit environment, you'll see the keys better if you turn off the lighting, whereas in most laptops, you can see the keys perfecty regardless of whether backlight is on or off.

    Hey, I bought a Zephyrus G15 and after a week stuck pixels started getting all over the display. I exchanged it for another one, and after 2 days stuck pixels started the pop up on that one. I would like to know if anyone else is having this problem of stuck pixels on the G15 because I cannot trust a laptop to last 4 years, that gets stuck pixels in less than half a week. Thanks. Bye.

    Hey man like your videos just letting you know I got a G15 last week from BestBuy with the RTX3070. After I did all the windows updates/bios updates it would get stuck on a black screen and the activity light would also stay on. The only way to fix this was removing the battery (what a pain) I tried trouble shooting it but no fix. After taking it back to bestbuy the geek squad guy told me it would take a month to fix. So I had to return it and now I’m waiting for it to come back in stock. ):

    • @Veiledrider

      I got mine last week, then had to return it to best buy Because it had unbearable coilwhine. I got another one 2 days ago and that one doesn't have the coil whine but it feels like it's a used one rather than brand new because the left side of the mouse pad is leaning in like it was used alot and the back chassis creaks to the left side. I don't know what to do at this point, wether return it and roll the dice on another one or just keep this.

    What you said about ram is just wrong. There are no stablity issues installing larger mismatched sticks, the difference would be that you can only ever achieve dual channel memory speeds for the first 16gb in this case, as it pulls 8gb from soldered snd 8 from installed. After this it will tun in single channel mode which may have slighrly worse perfotmance

    Hey Great videos, super helpful. I got lucky and picked one of these up on BB, but I do have one (literally only one) fatal issue with it that I'd like to share... maybe important to you or some viewers. Hooking up a Valve Index via the USB 3.2/Displayport connection does NOT fully work. Even though the connection bypasses the IGP, I am losing consistent frames and constant stuttering makes this computer a deal-breaker at this point. Ive contacted ASUS/Valve, for possible fixes and have gotten nowhere. could be a simple Nvidia/USB driver issue because the port has the horsepower obviously. The cable matters USB/Displayport connector works fine on my desktop coming out of an Nvidia 2080ti, so that's not the issue either, and yes all of the ASUS Aura lighting effects and any other BS background processes were stopped/uninstalled. SO although I LOVE this laptop, and hate to even write this, I am returning it. I have no choice because I do a lot of VR. Does anyone have the same issue? or a fix? Thanks for reading the comment :)

    Manufacturers are flooding the market with these cheap ass low quality pieces of plastic, further reinforcing my point that companies are not really desperate to "cut costs", they are just doing this because people let them get away with it. What we really want as consumers is ONE MAINLINE Laptop model that has all the features we need, sturdy in quality, USB's on both sides (basically every laptop 10 years ago)

    help please? i’ve had a G15 since 2019 and randomly without warning it seems my fan has 💩 the bed… when i entered UEFI/BIOS my cpu temp started at 40°c and raised to 73°c within minutes (i was not gaming or previously gaming) and my cpu fan speed will not exceed around 774rpm…?! does this mean my fan is faulty and i need replacement? please help thank you so much!!
    (i have a 2019 ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 GA502DU)
    problem literally occurred overnight… not sure what happened but besides the overheating and low fan speed, the laptop still runs beautifully, no lag or slow loading speeds anywhere?
    (i haven’t spent more than 10mins in a game due to overheating but within those 10mins the game ran fast and normally) i never once had a problem with this laptop until now, and that low rpm is scary

    I have got the est buy 2070 model. It is great but I have been seeing cpu overheating in turbo mode. I think this is a manufacturing defect. I tried many tweaks and stuff. Some work, like disabling the cpu boost. But this is at the cost of cpu performance. Reddit posts say this is due to messed up liquid metal application on the cpu. Many went on forward to re paste their cpus and the problem was solved. But I dont have an expertise in doing that and wont risk voiding the warranty. I am just going to return it and order it again some time later. Hope asus fixes these manufacturing defects. Apart from the issues the laptop is a beast.

    How does ASUS G15 (GA503QM-HQ148TS) fare against ASUS TUF A15 (FA566QM-HN087TS).
    I'm struggling with the decision because specs wise, they seem similar where A15 seems to come out on top in Processor as it's a H version whereas the screen, sound, touch pad seem to be better with G15. A15 is cheaper than G15 which is my main point for confusion.
