I was watching this without being loged in to my TH-cam acc. Literally loged in just for me to throw a like here because of how useful, helpful and well made this video is. Mind you, I do not really have a habit of liking videos, let alone loging in just to throw a like. Good job, and thanks for this very useful tips!
This is terrific! No bs, no hocus pocus, just the straight scoop. I hope you do tablets next. I’m retired and all I need is space for audio books, TH-cam, newspapers and more information than I’ve got time to absorb. Keep it up you’re doing the Lord’s work!!!🎉
I have only ever owned an iPad and Samsung tablet but would recommend getting a Samsung due to affordability, screen technology, ease-of-use and speakers (I own a Samsung S7 tablet). Since I also have a Samsung phone (bought one this year) I also noticed that they both sync really lovely. With all of that said I believe you could probably buy almost any tablet on the market today and have a nice experience. Just compare the screens, speakers and battery life since those will be your main factors when deciding.
I forgot to mention that Samsung also include a pen with their tablets which is actually really neat. I use mine daily but thought I'd never, or very rarely, use it. I use it for notetaking, sketching, watching movies (sometimes using your hands is not precise enough) or when I'm typing (like right now).
As a viewer who has been diagnosed with SEVERE ADHD and OCD I have to say, without a doubt, that this guy is the best, straightforward Tech related channel on TH-cam!!!
I have the Alienware x17 R2 with the RTX 3080ti, the i9-12900hk, and 32Gb of ram. I produced music, play games, and use software like Davinci Resolve and unreal engine. Considering the price, it definitely passes the line of diminishing returns but the good thing is that it’s a no compromise laptop able to handle whatever you throw at it.
@@Πέτρος-μ3ω no it hits it’s thermal limit of 99 degrees on the cpu and hovers right under the thermal limit of 85 on the gpu. Laptops are designed to hit thermal limits so it isn’t worrying me. Bro this was THE MOST helpful video I've seen on this. Like, actually being able to tell what I'm looking at when buying a laptop has taken so much anxiety out of it for me
Great video. I want to add that one of the most high importance problems in laptops (either-render or gaming) are thermals. Bad thermal Management equals shorter laptop life and Thermal throttling. I think that you should analyze this thing in a separate video.
@@venomtang seconded, my old laptop runs games just fine but tends to overheat. So far all I've learned is if you're going for an AMD CPU, if it has an H or HX at the end it has the highest performance and runs hotter, HS uses less power than those two and U is the worst one (similar to the U for Intel: desinged for low battery consumption). But I'd love to know more!
As someone who's a laptop gamer & everyday enjoyer. This man is 100% right. Basic knowledge before purchase: CPU - Used for activities other than gaming (Video editing, work, loading times, etc) GPU - Used specifically for gaming, it can help out with work to do with software. (After Effects, Premiere Pro, Davinci, Etc) RAM - Higher the RAM the faster your computer can load stuff. 16-32 RAM is recommended for gaming & video editing. VRAM - This is the amount of RAM in your GPU that it can use. The more it has the higher FPS you can get. SSD - This is your storage. 512GB is enough for work. 1TB is enough for gaming. Hz - This is your computer refresh rate. The higher this is the smoother your screen will be. 60hz is good for work, 144hz is recommended for gaming. The average RTX laptop has 4GB VRAM. Some can get about 6GB VRAM.
Thank you so much for making a video with visuals and making things straight to the point. I honestly wish more computer channels explained things just like you did!👍
Your video is very accurate to the point. I feel it's been a long time since I have seen someone who accurately mentioned how to select a perfect laptop without sacrificing performance.
Actually you have decoded for me all of the wierd things that i used to hear at any tech store! This was very useful and it helped me a lot. Thank you so much and keep up the good work!
Unless you're only buying new generation stuff, I think some important info was left out (that can be one of the biggest traps for newcomers. You sort of hinted at it in the beginning, but I think it's worth going in more depth in this comment as this was really helpful for me when building my first PC. This is especially helpful for the secondhand market) It's important to note the difference in generations An old generation i7 can be much worse than a newer i3 Same goes for graphics cards If you want to compare 2 CPU's or GPU's, good advice is to search for a comparison. Example: RTX 3060 vs RX 6600 Then choose result (usually from the site userbenchmarks) and you will get a detailed comparison, with an easy to understand percentage score for both Also if you're not a competitive gamer, I would not prioritize spending more for 144 hz 60 hz is just fine for casual gaming You can also get better visuals with 60 hz (60 fps) than 144 hz (144 fps) as getting that high fps will often require you to turn down graphics settings If really depends on the person But if you're more into single player gaming and chill multiplayer and don't care about being the best in multiplayer games that require a lot of accuracy, I really don't think it's worth spending more for getting 144 hz In fact, if you've never had a high performance PC and screen before, you have probably never even experienced 144 fps before
what would you recommend for music production? I want to use the laptop only for making music with Ableton and have many plugins, samples etc. thank you :))

My personal focus in choosing a laptop was the device's life an be what I could get with a constrained budget. Little to say, it was extremely difficult finding good reliability reviews but I mainly focused on the hinge design, whether or not it used adhesive in the construction, the interior design, component ease of access and online parts availability. I landed on Dell as my budget was restricted below the Framework and similars, then the rest of the game was about comparing the two laptops that fit my budget and form-factor for the best performance. One had better I/O but I figured I could get around lacking ethernet and a few other USB ports, I mainly wanted the hardware to be the best possible to potentially withstand next decade's software and potentially more. Comparing other brands after landing on the model, I confirmed they all traded for frankly useless things at the MSRP like a magnesium body, and laptops that had a larger battery typically made the same by welding it to the motherboard or using adhesive. I didn't know about the screen details, but any activity beyond work and study would be misuse for what I set out to do with it and frankly, I couldn't have gone far with my limited budget.
This video is by far the best advice on how to choose a laptop that suits your needs. Straight and to the point and even gives you a rundown on what the name titling and labelling mean in such an easy to understand manner that you feel like a tech expert at the end of the video. Not one bit of this video is boring or irrelevant. Highly recommend.
Thank you so much, you did it in a way that is very professional and yet is easy to understand, I am not good at computers and thinking about getting a backup laptop, now I know how to ask questions and what to choose from the business range, well done!!!!!!!!

Hey, man, thank you for this video, it really helped me clarify what I wanted and what was the best option for my budget. Just bought a PC and now waiting for it to arrive. Continue making videos 👍
This is an excellent video, there's obviously a lot of points where you can say "that's not nessesarily true..." But if you want to teach this stuff to an absolute beginner, you'll have to glaze over a lot of details and just tell them the important stuff. As an example you can get high performance on battery, but it's not easy and it comes with a bucket of compromises. One key aspect that was skipped, and the only real critique I have of this video was figuring out how much power the user will actually need, and thus how low they can set their budget without compromising their UX. I can't even imagine how I would teach someone that though, it just takes a lot of experience with different PCs as well as knowing yourself and what programs you'll use to determine what's "enough" for you. If you can teach that, you might as well be the teacher of the decade
Can you help me decide?? I found a Lenovo Legion 5 17ACH6H 144Hz and don’t know if it’s worth it for 1,150$ Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 AMD Ryzen 7 5800H 32GB RAM 2TB SSD Seller says “Works perfectly fine, selling it because i bought a desktop computer. Feel free to come and try it out 🙂” What should i do? Should i go for it?
Wow! I’m blown away! With the help of a coworker in the mid 90’s, I learned how to build my own PC’s and load Windows operating systems on them. It wasn’t easy to do that back then. Now all you have to do is install the Operating System is load it in and everything is automatic. This video shows how much technology is advancing and how to use this knowledge to make a better choice to purchase a laptop. Thank you!

While I don't think of myself this way, I am by current standards an old-timer. Been in high-tech since 1983 and lived in the middle of Silicon Valley during the time of web browser and Windows IP stack creation. I have watched and listened to thousands of videos and sessions and read books as well. THIS PRODUCTION IS ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE EVER WATCHED, THOROUGHLY! YOU ARE TO BE COMMENDED FOR YOUR APPROACH, ARTICULATION, CLARITY OF VOICE, GRAPHICS DISPLAYED TO ALIGN WITH YOUR WORDS, AND MORE. AWESOME. YOU MADE ME A SUBSCRIBER.
I have just made one purchase of a laptop and replaced with a second purchase (returning 1st) as the first did not support two SSDs and had to open up to find out. I used Passmark CPU benchmarks. However, with all I thought I knew you have tripled my knowledge in buying laptops.
THANK YOU!

I worked for a game company and I am an 'IT enthusiast' for many years now. Your video is amazing!
Explanation on point, you don't use too much jargon and you can easily help people decide. Great job man.
Also the 'faceless' videos make it great for anti-discrimination, politics and etc. People can't judge you based on your 'anonymous' outfit now. Amazingly done and well played 🙂
Can u put some light about ur career at gaming company. I am noob gamedev learning to become expert in the field but game development career seems too niche and hard to go into?
@@NoThing-ec9km I worked in the Customer Service part of the company, I can't help you with your request as we didn't develop any games. Only build PCs, recommending prebuilds and other :-) Good luck!
As a game dev, he kinda downplayed the importance of CPU on a gaming machine. If the game is very CPU-bound, a low performing CPU can reduce the FPS significantly

I still discovered this channel thank you star wars soldier.
That was a VERY CLEAR guide for someone who have a minimal idea or none for buying a laptop. Thank you for doing this video.
I appreciate how you organized the parts and types of laptops by function. Might come back to this
I know nothing about laptops and all that stuff… You did an incredible job
I have never seen someone explaining laptops in this manner and I have been in IT for 35 years. Sir, you are the master on the domain of explaining laptops. I don’t think that there is anyone in a computer store that has the level of knowledge on the subject that you have! Great presentation, great teacher!
Just Get a good phone with big screen and you are set.

I'm so impressed by the quality of this video. Brilliant!
Amazing! I am in IT and this is the most comprehensible video to choose a laptop
How about thermals? Any problems there?
@@Πέτρος-μ3ω no it hits it’s thermal limit of 99 degrees on the cpu and hovers right under the thermal limit of 85 on the gpu. Laptops are designed to hit thermal limits so it isn’t worrying me. It doesn’t throttle it’s clock speeds back so it seems to be tuned well. Definitely isn’t comfortable to use on your lap tho. It’s more of a portable desktop replacer.
I have been in the industry since the 80s.
I have never before found a reviewer that was as clear, distinct and thorough as you.
The plastic thing on your face is horrible but does not affect the results.

This is an amazing video. I love the scenario breakdown, and the fact that you slowly introduce complexity and details by saying 'we'll come to that later'. Thank you so much man 🙏
Finally, someone who addresses everything and explains it in great detail. Such an informative video.
These type of videos are rare to find nowadays
That's why he covers his identity 😂
I cant tell you how helpful this was! I’m so happy to have this guide during a time when I’m in desperate need of a new laptop and I’m technologically incompetent. I might even watch your video again as I take a look in Best Buy tbh.
Although this video didn't really provide new info to me, I stayed for the editing and just overall presentation. I sent it to my less tech literate parents and they used to info to buy a PC without my advice (and they made the correct decision in my opinion!).
Great content, I like forward to watching more!

Mm is there a vid you can suggest that covers this ?
@@venomtang seconded, my old laptop runs games just fine but tends to overheat. So far all I've learned is if you're going for an AMD CPU, if it has an H or HX at the end it has the highest performance and runs hotter, HS uses less power than those two and U is the worst one (similar to the U for Intel: desinged for low battery consumption). But I'd love to know more!
Laptop GPU bench markylist
I love this. Never knew what the numbers after the process type meant until now. Very Educational n informational stuff right here, easy to understand
As someone who's a laptop gamer & everyday enjoyer. This man is 100% right.
Basic knowledge before purchase:
CPU - Used for activities other than gaming (Video editing, work, loading times, etc)
GPU - Used specifically for gaming, it can help out with work to do with software. (After Effects, Premiere Pro, Davinci, Etc)
RAM - Higher the RAM the faster your computer can load stuff.
Wow, clear, precise, organized, informative.
You have a second calling as a trainer for individuals that create informative videos.
I doubted the comments at first but now I’m like wow … this is sooooo useful and well explained… thanks 🙏
Actually you have decoded for me all of the wierd things that i used to hear at any tech store! This was very useful and it helped me a lot.
Thank you so much and keep up the good work!
I like that your content provides straight to the point info for the users that are not tech knowledgeable. Keep up the good work!
This video gave me more clarity than wasting away an entire month just to understand how to choose my new laptop. Thank you so much man.
Unless you're only buying new generation stuff, I think some important info was left out (that can be one of the biggest traps for newcomers. You sort of hinted at it in the beginning, but I think it's worth going in more depth in this comment as this was really helpful for me when building my first PC. This is especially helpful for the secondhand market)
It's important to note the difference in generations
An old generation i7 can be much worse than a newer i3
Same goes for graphics cards
If you want to compare 2 CPU's or GPU's, good advice is to search for a comparison.
Example: RTX 3060 vs RX 6600
Then choose result (usually from the site userbenchmarks) and you will get a detailed comparison, with an easy to understand percentage score for both
Also if you're not a competitive gamer, I would not prioritize spending more for 144 hz
60 hz is just fine for casual gaming
You can also get better visuals with 60 hz (60 fps) than 144 hz (144 fps) as getting that high fps will often require you to turn down graphics settings
If really depends on the person
But if you're more into single player gaming and chill multiplayer and don't care about being the best in multiplayer games that require a lot of accuracy, I really don't think it's worth spending more for getting 144 hz
In fact, if you've never had a high performance PC and screen before, you have probably never even experienced 144 fps before
what would you recommend for music production? I want to use the laptop only for making music with Ableton and have many plugins, samples etc. thank you :))
Wow, I was researching for a month on which laptop to buy and all those videos I came across were so detailed to the point it was hard for someone like me who don't understand it in depth to understand. This 16 mins video was all I need, thanks buddy👍
Before watching this, I pretty much new most nothing (except weight and physical dimensions) about all the different specifications within a particular model laptop. In just a few minutes after having watched this video, I was able to learn much more about the numerous technical specs. that I now feel more comfortable about what to look for and what to buy. Thanks Mysterious Tech!
I already did the research and thought this video won't teach me anything new but it structured information in my head sooo well, thank you!
Holy, this video is like a silly vibe with the AI voice over, but damn do you explain everything so nicely. Even as a person, who knows a thing or two about PC parts, laptops still give me a bit of a headache due to the dumb model names that CPUs have and the stupid thing about GPUs with same models, but different wattages being with different performance. It is frustrating, but you helped out with giving the links of lists for all CPUs and GPUs. Ty!
I must say, this is the best video I have found on the internet for buying a laptop! I have been searching for such an amazing illustration for years. Thanks for this video
thank you so much, i did not know this before, but from now iam going to buy laptop according to details you gave me
My personal focus in choosing a laptop was the device's life an be what I could get with a constrained budget.
Seen thousands of TH-cam presentations and yours is under the top 10 hands down. Thank you man.
This video is perfect for anyone wanting to buy their first laptop. Nice work!

I found a Lenovo Legion 5 17ACH6H 144Hz and don’t know if it’s worth it for 1,150$
