- Can you beat Sonic Adventure without collecting any rings?! In this no Rings Challenge I embark on an Adventure of a life time, to show you how YES! You can Actually! However, there is a catch. Sit back, grab yourselves a Chilli Dog and enjoy this Adventure on how I conquered the Sonic Adventure No Rings Challenge! No Ring Allergy mod used here.
I honestly wasn't aware of the Ring Allergy Mod before I started the run, but it would have made things far easier for sure! Anyway I hope you enjoy the Video! 2022, the year of Sonic is finally here! Which means Sonic Frontiers is only 11 months away LET'S GOOOO!

Tag time!!!! So now that we know Sonic Frontiers is right around the corner, it's a shame we wouldn't be getting the Sonic Adventure Remakes. I would have loved to re-do this No Ring Challenge with a fresh coat of paint with a ton of fun challenges! Sonic vs Eggman, Sonic vs Chaos, Sonic vs Shadow, Chaos, Perfect Chaos, Tikal, Tails, Knuckles, Emerald Coast, Sky Deck, Speed Highway, Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow, so many great things missed! I also can't wait for Sonic Origins and Sonic Prime, hell even the Sonic Movie 2 looks really great as well! Some versions of Sonic adventure (I know the Dreamcast Original and the Gamecube port for sure) allow the second controller to control Tails. This could potentially make it easier to prevent Tails from collecting rings.
I believe it's also possible in the steam port as well which I was using, I just don't have another controller to test it out. 😅
Would have been a lot easier for sure though!
I was gonna mention this thats funny but i know for sure 360 version still works so im guessing the steam version should be the same

15:30 capsules you collect in Adventure 1 will not respawn if you die and start over. This was likely done to try and avoid letting players farm extra lives off of life capsules resetting.
Makes sense to be honest, certainly messed with my muscle memory on repeat attempts, trying to evade Item Boxes that weren't there! 🤣

Fun fact: Some of the glitches pulled off in this video aren't possible in the original Dreamcast version, only the terrible DX ports. Examples would be the Casinopolis ring ramp and the Ice Cap freefall
I didn't know that to be honest! Might not be possible on the DC without Casinopolis, since you can beat Ice Cap Ringless without the Freefall skip.
Or the Final Egg skip that he didn't do/didn't know about?

@@RotcodFox There's a transition into a different act, and if you spindash back up, you can just clip out of bounds. I think it's the start of Act 2.

It's always cool to see people learn new quirks about sonic adventure. It blew my mind when I found a way to break out of the infamous Red Mountain softlock in Sonic's story where you get stuck on the Egg Carrier.
Where there is a will, there is a way to clip through a wall

@@challengerjakku1943 I play the Xbox version which is the same port. I see that the collision is kind of weird near the ends of the door, but I can't seem to get through. It certainly doesn't help that many commonly known glitches aren't documented in videos or are just low quality.

You could've let enemies hit instead of killing in those impossible situations. Rings don't count towards overall total unless you complete level with them. Enjoyed the video just wanted to share

I thought that the Casino would be the Holy Grail of no-ring run enders, but you managed to bypass ALL *400* RINGS THAT ARE SUPPOSEDLY REQUIRED TO BEAT THE LEVEL

Watching overall speedruns of Sonic story and ILs would help. I think Final Egg does some kind of clip that skips to the end with the one path, on GCN. Twinkle Park has a few skips on the cart section. I think there's a few others. Since you can beat it without rings, they'd just make it a little easier.
Didn't know about that Twinkle Park platform, though. Why's it there?
True true, I knew about the final egg skips but I didn't need them in the end.

@@challengerjakku1943 You sometimes wonder how much flexibility the devs were prepared for. Both here and 3D Super Mario games have seemingly inaccessible locations, but then * surprise! * there's an extra life up there. I'm still sad the spindash got "nerfed" in the next game.

I tried this run onto my Dreamcast, and what i can say about it: 1) Casinopolis Skip is better with higher route (There is alternative skip onto the roof of the casino (Knuckleses part of the stage). 2) Ice Cap skip isn't possible, so you need to remember paths of ring onto the snowboarding section. 3)When Dying in Chaos 0 bossfight, you respawn before the rings, thus making it possible to beat him. 4) You can't use 2nd act skip in Final Egg, only Out of bounds capsule skip.

29:30 I love how the Light Speed Dash still ends up being useful in a ringless run, that's hilarious.
Iirc one or both of the levels when you’re using tails and flying can be beat by holding up and right to go to the top right of the screen and most of the attacks will miss you. This may help you

EDIT: Oh. You already did most of the stories. Okay, I think Gamma might be possible but good luck trying to get past everything without the Jet Booster.

so about chaos 0. if you die in the boss fight, sonic spawns in before the set of rings he normally picks up in the cutscene. so it is entirely possible to avoid getting any rings even with the cutscene forcing you to.

I was thinking the way you were going to get around tails collecting rings was by using player 2 controller but that’s even more impressive

Ngl that was the plan originally, I just didn't own a second controller at the time so I had to do it this way haha.
You could do Sadx, its glitchier so a lot more skips even levels. If rings are required in the level or to get to said level you can complete and/or enter it as a different character and count as completing the level.
This is sadx, I'm just using the Dreamcast conversion mod XD

9:58 actually, you can just SDJ to the right, towards the camera, and clip right through the drawbridge because it actually has really really shitty collision, it's practically not there. You don't even need to try to avoid anything since it's barely further than a regular jump's distance away. You made that way harder on yourself than it needed to be tbh.
26:34 you can just use Free Camera and turn it around to face forward. Literally effortless at that point.
You'd need to be in the flow state as in letting your body take over and do it, I done it for Unleashed and was able to beat Eggman Land without stopping or getting hit, cant remember the other levels I did or if I played the entire game during it because that state of mind & body messes with your perception of time.
That's impressive tbh, Eggman land is such an annoying stage

In case you didnt know. on the chaos 0 fight, if you die Sonic will respawn ahead of the rings
if you really wanted to, if you played on pc and got a mod loader you could move sonic through cutscenes so he won't collect rings. Although i think that would be considered cheating but great video nonetheless

I actually did this challenge on my twitch, there are two crucial parts outside Sonic's story that will ruin this kind of run.
Big on Twinkle Park lands on on top of rings that you can't avoid, so RIP.
Perfect Chaos no matter what you do, is not possible on the 50 rings the game gives you sadly, even with a completely flawless run you'd need like 6 more rings to do the fight.
I found Big's out the hard way last week. 🤣

You can actually control Tails if you plug in a 2nd controller and start pushing buttons just like the in sth2. Now obviously navigating a character without their own camera isn't ideal. But as long as you do some tiny action every few minutes the cpu won't have any control. Granted this was in the GameCube that I did this on when my friend showed me the game for the first time, so I don't know if you can play as tails in this manner on pc

idk what to tell you cause it's not intuitive at all, but if you ram the other racers in the bumper kart section with enough speed without holding accelerate, you explode them. I don't know why they made it the way that they did cause it's definitely not intuitive at first glance but it's simple enough once you get used to it.

At first I thought this was some HD fan remake mod of sonic adventure, then I realized, it’s just the Dreamcast version. Why is the port, on my modern PC, so much WORSE quality than the game running on a 30 year old console? What a disappointment.
This is the pc port, just using the dc conversion mod. The original only ran at 30fps
