Earlier this year before the Sonic movie fiasco we tackled Sonic Adventure 2 Battle's Hero Story with only Rouge the Bat... But now it is time to tackle the Dark Story with only Knuckles the Echidna! Can Knuckles beat all of Shadow's and Eggman's levels without the abilities they'd normally have? Let's find out in my latest "is it possible" Sonic challenge!

Video request: what if Samus didn’t let the omega pirate fall on her giving her the phazon suit (Metroid prime). Without the phazon suit dark samus would not be created.
The boostpads launching you super far in mech stages is becouse for some reason the mechs only get a halved launch distance value and so the other characters go flying
Is it possible to beat the Finalhazard with Rouge and Knuckles?

There is one,and only one thing that MIGHT make Cosmic Wall possible,but it's quite a stretch.Even though it goes mostly upwards,the part near the end where you get chased by the spike machine goes way down,and I mean WAY down. Because of this the goal ring is reachable as Eggman even from the earliest point you can slip out of bounds,which is quite a lot lower than how high it gets. And you still have extra height to play with. As Knuckles however,there would have to be a hole in the killplanes right in the area of the beginning of the stage that you could slip through without dying(like there is in Final Chase). But even then,I cannot guarantee there would be enough height. Leaning more towards that not being the case. It's the only remotely possible theory I thought up of,at least.I've always found so much fun,and far more replay value from this game by playing stages as character types that aren't supposed to be in it.
Any idea for Egg Golem?
Never thought about it much,but it feels unlikely given as far as i'm aware,there's no programmed collision between Knuckles' attacks and mech-exclusive shooting targets
If there is a gap between the kill planes, I feel like you are definitely onto something.
Knuckles would actually have much more height to play around with than Eggman, provided he at least starts a bit higher than the goal ring. If it's ultimately lower then I'm not sure this is possible.

Knuckles launches so far because of character weights knuckles being lighter than eggman who the boost ramp was designed for so it launches knuckles with the same amount of force to launch eggman

Because it sounds like a very fascinating idea since Sonic Unleashed is one of the most top-notch post-Classic Sonic games up to the ranks of Sonic Adventure 1 and before the Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing duology.
Hanging onto those ledges and trying to slowly walk on them as Modern Sonic sounds so painful..

So basically, Rouge makes a better Hero than Knuckles trying to be a villain.
Power move idea for a mod: for both Rouge and Knuckles to clear some/most of the stages, have a mod that makes using Teasure Scope/Sunglasses more useful and have hidden springs and such!
Our story begins with the nefarious Knuckles breaking into a military base that's rumored to contain his grandfather's secret weapons: the self-proclaimed "ultimate life form", Knuckles. After a demonstration of his power, Knuckles promises Knuckles a wish if Knuckles meets him on the space colony ARK. After collecting a few shards of the master emerald, Knuckles flies to his secret pyramid base, where he watches Knuckles steal a chaos emerald. Impressed, Knuckles heads to the ARK to meet Knuckles, where their plan in interrupted by the mysterious jewel thief, Knuckles. The three unlikely allies then launch an attack on the same base Knuckles was held at. Knuckles causes a distraction through an all-out attack on the base itself, while Knuckles steals the remaining Chaos Emeralds and Knuckles plants some explosives all around the island. However, Knuckles gets trapped, and when Knuckles goes to save him, he's interrupted by that fake bat, Rouge. After he punches the defenseless bat a few times, he goes to rescue Knuckles just in time, while he imagines Rouge driving off the highway into the ocean.

4:55 that happens because of how character stats work, mechs are much heavier than anything else, so ramps and spring have their power amplified to account for this, because Knuckles is way lighter than the mechs, he gets sent flying from either
The launchpad thing is probably to do with each character's specific physics and weight/acceleration, mechs are heavy and slow comparatively speaking and the pads just apply speed instead of sending you in a specific arc.
That last rival fight is bad enough with the correct characters, looks like a nightmare with Knuckles and Rouge

You'll be stuck in Tails' section as Shadow because, even if you could make it to the end of the section (which is likely impossible because there are a few dynamites and even then there's a huge gap PLUS dynamites that Shadow probably can't jump across, though I'm likely wrong about that. Even then, dynamites), you won't be able to destroy the door.

You wouldn't be able to get past the swimming section in knuckles area with shadow
@@Ash_and_Ember00 It should be possible, just a bit hard. But there's no real obstacle that prevents Shadow from completing Knuckles' section iirc. (There are bubbles underwater which replenishes your oxygen)

3:22 That's funny, because gliding for long distances in the classic games actually gradually speeds you up. I get why it would slow you down in the 3D games, though. Obviously you can glide for much longer in 3D lol

Knuckles can do it all, he’s got so many skills and abilities, a mixture of speed and strength. I don’t know why they don’t make a new Chaotix game just in 3D.
Just without the ring pulling mechanics but something similar to the way Tails follows Sonic. Maybe interchangeable like Sonic Heroes.
Fun fact, if you spin the thumbstick fast enough...you can perform the uppercut without the use of a full combo. Same rule applies to Rouge's rising kick
Been a long time since I saw a challenge run like this! Shame there weren't as many other crazy challenges overcome in this, but still fun! Would love to see more like this from you!

So, while Rouge is able is beat the Hero Story by herself, Knuckles isn't able to beat the Dark Story by himself, due to two stages and one boss (or one stage and one boss if you don't count the driving stage).
Can't wait for beating the Hero/Dark story with Sonic/Shadow

I'd say Route 280 is completable by Knuckles. As you said, he *does* have a car, the game just isn't letting him use it. If he was allowed to use the options he does have, it would be no issue, and it's only an arbitrary restriction stopping him.
mech stage launchers sending you absurd distances is because the mechs do in fact weigh a lot more than non mechs. in normal gameplay this is to keep them from getting castlevania'd into pits due to your size but this also makes it so intentional knock back components like the springs send you no distance what so ever. so they compensate by jacking up kncokback levels enough to clear the intended distance. so essentially playing eggman in non eggman levels has springs do nothing for you where as playing non mechs in mechs will send you to orbit.
That’s one cosmic wall you can’t punch through...

If I had to take a guess, it's possible until Cosmic Walls. (edit: not considering bosses)
Iron Gate: you can climb on top and just fly to the end.
Sand Ocean: you can fly to the end, very fun to play as Knuckles IMO.
Radical Highway: you can literally fly to the end from the beginning of the stage granted you know where to go.
Lost Colony: You can pass through the first ceiling and then fly to the big autoscroller. Pretty sure you can also pass through the ceiling, but I forgot.
Weapon's Bed, White Jungles & Sky Rail: open area thus possible.
Cosmic Walls: you don't jump high enough, thus impossible. It is however very likely possible you can go through a killplane ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, after which you can then fly to the end since, even though the whole stage is upwards, at the final autoscroller at the end there's a huge downslope thing which makes it go far below the spawn point (at about -3,000 on the Y axis).
Final Chase: possible because open area.

I'd label the car level as not counting, not only does Knuckles have a car so it's silly to not let him use it, but it's not even a normal level.

I think the reason why jump pads launch Knuckles out of the stage is because they were placed in a way so that Eggman in his mech would make the jump to the next platform, and mechs don’t get as much speed, height, or distance from jump pads, boost pads, or springs as characters not in mechs. Most mech stages don’t have these jump pads in an area without walls or ceilings to halt your momentum if they overshoot, so you simply never encountered them before this particular stage.
Get ready for Rouge% speedruns. Oh boy. Ooooooh boy.

I kinda want to see shadow do all sonic stages because you know :.. shadow doesn’t have all the same upgrades as sonic like him lacking the vary important bounce band

It occurs because the launchpads and springs are based around character physics too, so even with physics mods around the characters the levels are supposed to be in (like replacing Eggman and Tails's physics with Gamma's from SA1) the trajectory mildly breaks and you can see out of bounds by accident because of if
Rouge has a significantly harder run, but she can also complete the game all by herself. Meanwhile, Knuckles has a signficiantly easier run, but it's impossible. Still hard to see this as a win for Knux, but it was fun to watch.
Im gunna assume eggman and tails are programmed with more weight/gravity, so being lighter may screw with that? Assuming its going off of potential acceleration and jump height? I guess thats easier than programming two separate types of booster?
That's what I figures too since SA2 unlike the modern games has a proper physics engine

You should have asked your speedrunner friend about the driving level.
It's not the speedrun friend who made the mod. Even if someone could put all the effort into putting knuckles in the car chase we can assume that it is easily possible.

The dash boards prolly don’t work right in shooting levels because the ramps have a set momentum that correlates with the respective character’s in-game weight for the physics engine. Thus a ramp made for eggman’s heavy mech would launch the lighter knuckles wayyy farther. (Think aerial faith plates in Portal 2)

When Angel Island sends its Echidnas they're not sending their best. They're sending Echidnas with lots of exploits and they're bringing those exploits to Dark Story. They're bringing glide extend. They're bringing stage clipping. They're speedrunners, and some, I assume, are good people.
Looks like the gravity in Cosmic Wall does apply to Knuckles in 2 cases:
1. When you hit something
2.When you get hit
he doesn't chuckle
...except he did
literally the 3rd thing he did
1. beat the shiny rocks out of a piss rat
2. steal shiny rocks
3. chuckle
4. leave
So... what about Sonic, Shadow, Tails, and Eggman? What if they had to go through the same challenge to?

I think the boost pads send you flying as any other characters that aren’t mechs in mech stages because the mechs don’t go as fast and if they were to go through a normal pad, they wouldn’t be able to cross, so the boost pads in the mech stages make you go farther.
I think the launch pad problem occurs because the mech is really slow and falls fast so they increased the speed of the launch pad to compensate, but this is just a guess
Question: For the Egg Golem fight, are you able to dig into the platforms you stand on up top? There's a chance to dig up skulls and whatnot IIRC as a hunter. If you can dig one up, can you throw it at the Egg Golem to damage it? I imagine Omochao counting as a flying "thrown item" when he's flying around so pumpkins and skulls should do damage too.
Quick answer - no.
Why - Knuckles can't drive.
However this makes me want to ask if the game is fully clearable as Tails in Dark Story
