- Hello! In today's challenge video we aim to find out whether you can beat Big's Story in Sonic Adventure without collecting any rings! (Big The Cat)
I've just noticed that I haven't really told you guys my uploading schedule despite weekly videos, whilst I can't exactly give a specific day of the week as it totally depends on when a Video is completed. What I can say, is that I release all of my videos at 11:30pm UK Time, so you can convert that to your own time-zone to see where it applies for you!
In any case this challenge video was a ton of fun overall, Big's story is a contentious point for many but I do feel it garners too much hate; as the fishing is actually pretty fun! It's just the execution and implementation that leaves a lot to be desired, you maybe wondering why I've decided to even take on Big's Story to begin with? Well... Watch and find out! 😉

I can't wait for Sonic Adventure 1, or Sonic Adventure 2 maybe I can a can you beat Sonic Adventure without collecting a ring? I guess I could always do so in Sonic Adventure DX; or Sonic Adventure 2 battle, Big The Cat is my favorite character, especially his battle against Chaos 6 like Big vs Chaos 6, or Big vs Eggman! Same with Tails and Knuckles, and even Gamma, Sonic... Did you guys read those Sonic Frontiers Leaks? Insane right?! What about Sonic Origins or Sonic Prime? Maybe even the Sonic Movie and Sonic Movie 2, I might do a Sonic Movie 2 Review when it comes out, my favorite port has to be Sonic Adventure 2 battle and I hope we get a Sonic Adventure 3 someday. For sure I'll be doing a Sonic Adventure 2 review, maybe even cover some Sonic Leaks and Sonic discussion... The weird part is, even though the game tells you to, but you don't need to throw the rock. Just jump to break the ice.

To be honest, I don't think you should count forced rings. Seeing as they're forced by the game. The challenge should only start off as soon as you gain control in the overworld or stages. And if you're forced by the game itself to collect a ring then it shouldn't count. Because you were not the one that collected the ring itself, the game forced it through an event you're unable to control. I've seen someone do this challenge with Sa2b and they consider getting a ring through a forced sequence should be considered "peach rings"
Basically, what this TH-cam did is whenever he got a forced ring, he got hit by the nearest enemy to revert back to zero rings and then did it ringless.
He placed this into the "Peach Rings" category.
He basically explains it like this: "The peach rings category where it's served with peach rings, but everyone removes it before they can enjoy the full meal."
I believe that rings that are forced to be collected shouldn't count in the challenge itself. Because you're not in control of it and you could probably still beat the stage ringless after. So, in my personal opinion any forced ring collecting is null and void- because there's nothing you can do to avoid them. And you could most definitely beat the stages ringless if not for the "peach rings"
Interesting, I'll keep this in mind.
When I started the series the rule I settled on was that rings collected via cutscenes wouldn't count, as sonic would collect the 2 rings before the chaos 0 fight. I can definitely see the case for peach rings here as well, so I guess it is possible under those circumstances. 😂
yeah, rings shouldn't count until you gain control of the character each stage.
Forced Ring Count: 4. (1 Twinkle Park, 2 Ice Cap, 1 Emerald Coast).
Actual Ring Count: 0. (Big truly had the easiest time here).
If we don't count those 4 rings I definitely agree, if Ice Cap didn't exist I would argue Tails but that was pretty difficult!
I think the issue with Big's story and why the rings are impossible to avoid, is because for some inane reason he's designed with a lot of hand holding in mind. Which is ironic when you think about how he's one of the last stories you can even unlock
It's honestly inexcusable the way Big's gameplay is treated.
True, I just find it bizarre how he drops into the stage. It's such a weird design choice.
I can't believe Big has the most collected rings so far. I totally thought he would be free. Btw are you doing Super Sonic after Gamma? I'm not sure how super Sonic would work. Ig you could try and land the final blow with 1 or 0 rings left as the cutscene would most likely save you from death.

Headcanon: Big is avoiding rings so he can enjoy the single life of fishing.
I'd say ignore the forced rings, you already did so with Sonic's story (collected rings in the chaos 0 entry cutscene).
So yay, 5 from 5 ringless.

Thank you so much! I'll be a little looser with the rules next time for sure, the reason why I counted these was because they were collected in the stage rather than a cutscene, but I probably should have discounted them like the 2 with Chaos 0. 😅
Big getting past Eggman's security shouldn't really be too surprising. He pops up in weird spots all over the place in SA2, too.
Why? Because he's a cat, and cats always seem to wind up in places they really shouldn't be.
i genuinely didnt even know you *could* hold the a button. i honestly thought mashing it was just how youre supposed to do it, it never occured to me to hold it
Honestly the only reason I ever thought to mash after struggling by holding it was because of Sonic Heroes funnily enough, you know how the hud seems to indicate that you're supposed to smash it on the grind rails even though you're supposed to hold it?
And somehow it worked. 🤣

Yes! I'll be trying SA2, Heroes, P-06, Shadow, and the other games!
The next ringless Challenge after the series concludes this will, will be Sonic Robo Blast 2 which I've almost finished the recording for, after that though we'll be heading straight into SA2.

your vids are great. maybe you could try these challenges with sonic robo blast 2 or something when your done with SA1. i dont see many challenges done with that, and its personally my favorite sonic game alongside SA1

@@rpzamer1218 It certainly is! All the more impressive that it was developed in the doom engine of all things.
When it came to the earlier versions I never really considered trying it out, but when 2020 happened I finally decided to give it a go and I'm glad I did; it's an amazing game.
6:10 I'm 99.9% sure that Froggy is in the same place in every level every time.
I think in the b and a levels he moves position, I'm pretty sure that's the case at least.

i gotta say your production value is really damn good for a 200 sub channel that only started actually doing content a month ago! when i saw your ringless sonic video in my recommended i was pretty surprised to see this was such a small channel. i could see it becoming a bigger channel if you stay consistent with this output. wondering how the gamma run will go but i think that will be pretty easy since his levels are already very easy unless you get screwed in by forced rings like this run was.

I definitely plan to stay consistent with weekly uploads, this next video is taking me a little bit longer because I also had to route the Super Sonic Encounter as well; it's on schedule for release in a few days though definitely by the weekend.

@@challengerjakku1943 what's gonna be the deal with super sonic? Just don't collect additional rings during the fight and don't count the rings that you are forced to have to keep up the form?
@@brogan294 Basically a Time Limit, I have 50 Seconds to beat Perfect Chaos; can't pick up any of the rings and it ends once I've beaten him or Sonic loses the Super Form.

I'm pretty sure Froggy has a fixed spawn. I replay Big's stages a lot and that frog has never been anywhere but in the same pool of water in Emerald Coast. I've never seen him in the hidden cove once. I'm willing to be proven wrong, but in my hundreds of hours of play, he's always in the same spot.
I've seen his spawn change when it pertains to the level b and a submissions, that's what I was thinking of when writing the script; in story mode it's fixed yeah.

@@challengerjakku1943 actually I am currently playing through SA2 without power ups it not for a video I just felt like it would be fun. so far without the lightspeed shoes its possible to complete the first jump trying to find a way for the second

Correction to make in the video, you seem to think froggy has an rng spawn point in the levels (something you point out in the emerald coast section of the video) but no. Froggy will ALWAYS spawn in the same location, singular, period.
Looking back I think I might have been mistaking that with bigs A level missions. I vividly recall fishing in the secret spot of emerald coast and getting frustrated.
Man, if only Big's entry points for the first three stages were just a tiny iota further away from those rings of rings...

Can you beat SA1 w/o upgrades?
Unfortunately no, in SA1 there are specific triggers in the story that will only happen after you've picked up an upgrade.
It could be possible in SA2 though, so I do plan on checking that out.

Not from my knowledge, but at that point it would kinda defeat the purpose of the challenge imo.
@@challengerjakku1943 I understand removing the upgrades via cheats would technically defeat the purpose of the challenge; Three forced moments I know of being Tails Rhythm Badge to continue, Gamma's Hoverpack to continue, & Amy's Warrior Feather which is a prize. The "Idea", the "Challenge" is still there tho. How far can Gamma get w/o his pack, how far can you go as Knuckles w/o his shovel claws, how far can Sonic go w/o Lightspeed Shoes & Ancient Light, How how many emblems can be got w/o any upgrades?
