When I read the title, I thought you found the 8 original versions From Jun, haha. He should find and release those one day. Also, at 16:49 Big slowly walking to the techno beat was hilarious to me.
Oh damn, I didn't know there were 8 arrangements that Jun previously made until I saw this video. Now I really wanna hear them. Let's hope he does release them.
i really want to hear like a “complete” mix of the song with the storm opening/closing, the beginning “all right!”, all the extra vocals throughout the song and the extra “open your heart”s and the drawn out “yeah” at the end. i tried making that and have it on my channel but i used the 2009 mix and the “yeah” ending which are different recordings of the instrumental so it’s really jarring. i’m no audio expert lmao
This is the first time in over 20 years I've heard the versions from the Sonic Adventure techno remix CD. You have no idea how glad I am someone delved into that.
You'd think there'd be a version with the storm, the "woah right" at the start, the missing backing vocals and the vocal flourishes from the end by now.
I get chills every time with number 3. I had played almost every Sonic game before I played the first Sonic Adventure. I fully understood what the game meant for the franchise and I knew the song was awesome. When the intro switched over to the lyrics it felt awesome.
Oh god that clip with looping theme for the final boss for some reason just made me realize how much more epic that boss fight is than we give it credit for. This is a freakin kaiju destroying a city and it's attention is captivated by a tiny glowing hedgehog all the way across town, and its sights are locked on. Sonic and this beast have a score to settle and don't back away, rather Chaos throws everything's he's got at Sonic to obliterate him and Sonic charges straight into it as fast as he can. I don't know if I can think of another popular video game mascot that ends with facing a kaiju in the middle of a destroyed city. There's fights like Dark Gaia which are technically on a larger scale... but they were in the middle of the Earth. Here, they're fighting smack in the middle of the city.
I remember there was a demo version of the K-Klub remix that was featured in the Nazo Unleashed fan animation years before the official release, which to this day I still wonder where the animator had got it from. Anyway, great video, I would like to see Dreams of an Absolution to be covered since it had a considerable amount of versions/remixes.
The Early demo ver is used for Sonic Adventure's Presentation 1998, but it is much longer and containing all the lyrics, I dont think it is a placeholder, since sakamoto does things that Johny doesnt, i.e. Screaming like a maniac (in a cool way) during the guitar solo and a long "GAAAAAAH!" before the final bridge, what I think happened here is Jun happens to really like hardline but before he could get Johny he really wanted Eizo to take it seriously if Johny doesn't show up. No high quality or original audio has been surfaced, but I recommend Grim Paper's 3rd version if you want to experience it (Edit: also the Razed remix contains the early EARLY demo lyrics too, "Searve my weary eyes, somebody realise" something like that)
I FOUND IT. THE CIRCUIT FREQ REMIX. FINALLY. I WAS TRYING TO FIND THAT EVER SINCE I FIRST SAW THE ORIGINAL SONIC 06 TRAILER, SINCE IT WAS USED IN THAT. THANK. YOU.
They didn't re-record the vocals for the chorus of the Circuit Freq remix, they just replaced the main vocal melody with the harmony. You can hear it in the original recording, just a lot quieter in the mix and with more effects added in post.
Just got the CD remix album for Sonic Adventure early in the morning today at 11:44a.m. and it's the Sonic Adventure Remix CD and I'm listening to it while watching this! 3:35p.m. 1/23/2024
This video answered so many questions for me! I always heard so many versions over the years, but I wasn't sure if I was just imagining things or remembering wrong haha.
Wow! This was a pretty informative and interesting video. Had no clue there were THAT many remixes of my favorite 3D era Sonic song! Very impressive. I'll sub ya! Thanks for posting this video! :)
My favorite will always be the 2009 version. It's so much cleaner and it's kinda sad that it's bearly used by sega over the original one and also gets much less love

You've actually missed a version! There was an even earlier demo to the song found on an old "Radio DC" broadcast by WaveMaster, which you can hear at: th-cam.com/video/_vEi3D8pDMM/w-d-xo.html
As a big JAM Project and Animetal fan, it makes me sad seeing so many people in the comments hating on the Eizo version. I'd personally love if Sega got Eizo to do a re-recording of it, as I much prefer his crazy metal squeal after the guitar solo, over Johnny's "Alright...yeah."
I was just listening to Crush 40's self titled album recently and the Open Your Heart track in that album is actually the Super Sonic story credits version
God, I remember when I was new to sonic. I wanted the toys so bad. I remember your super shadow unboxing, and that was i dont even know how long ago....
the Sonic Runners reminds me of a bunch of Guilty Gear -Sign- songs where they had a guitar very clearly standing in for vocals till Naoki sung vocals for them in Revelator

I could have sworn the “Early Demo Version” at 10:15 also appears somewhere in the Sonic universe, I think when the game audio is set to Japanese? Or maybe early trailers for the game before release?
I always wondered how many versions did this song have due to noticing slight variations ingame and when listening to the different open your heart spotify tracks.
Hey man, I truly enjoyed this video of yours as I absolutely love Open Your Heart as one of the all time greats performed by Crush 40 and soundtracks for the Sonic game series. The Open Your Heart album version you mentioned in your video belonging to Super Sonic Songs actually was released in 2009, not 2007 as that year belongs to the True Blue album if I recall correctly. The Super Sonic Song album features Knight of the Wind, which came out in 2009. Just giving constructive criticism, not intending to offend you as I love your content dude 👍
I'm glad someone's obsessed with this song as much as I am
Bro, same. I feel it is unhealthy how much I still listen to this song.
I am too
Yup, usually live and learn gets all the praise. But open your heart is just precious.
I am too obsessed with this song
@Captain D. Bijutsukan It is my ring tone afterall!
I think the different versions of "It Doesn't Matter" would be interesting to compare.

This is the first time in over 20 years I've heard the versions from the Sonic Adventure techno remix CD. You have no idea how glad I am someone delved into that.
15:15 That line was cleaner than my glasses
My god, the early demo version sounds like he's trying to so hard to vomit while singing. I guess, "CAN'T HOLD ON MUCH LONGER!", makes more sense now.
Correction, to NOT vomit while singing, thought I typed that in, oops!
Oof
The early demo version guy sounds like a metal singer for a dragon ball z lyrical song. Maybe from the anime or video game.
I had just ate and the laughing nearly made me vomit
It kind of sounds more like it’s sung by Homestar Runner
it's so unusual to hear this song without "OPEN YOUR HEEEAAART" at the end, like, didn't the opening have it?
Listen, there's only so many times I can open my heart and I DEFINETLY can't open it 20+ times.
You'd think there'd be a version with the storm, the "woah right" at the start, the missing backing vocals and the vocal flourishes from the end by now.

Also, a longer version of the prototype was used during the character introduction at the Tokyo International Forums.
I like these kinds of videos, you should definitely do more like this.
Zacharoni i agree bro
I like the original version best
Edit: Nevermind I just LOVE the dragged out guitar in the end of the album ver.
Valle I like generations
I like the album best. Still, Open Your Heart is amazing!!
Best of album one for me sounds amazing for me
@Ryan Fanstone naa the chorus in the generations version sounds so off
@Ryan Fanstone Much more guitar in the Original/Album version. And I personally love that
