Fuji Superia 400: The Most Overlooked and Affordable Color Film
มุมมอง 8K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
Fuji Superia 400 one of the most overlooked color film stocks on the market. It offers a unique combination of excellent color reproduction, fine grain, and best of all affordability which sets it apart from other Kodak film stocks on the market. This is pretty much the perfect film stock of choice for people who are just getting started in film as you can pretty much it online or in a CVS. Wit...

Fuji XE-4 | A Solid Digital Alternative to my 35mm Film Cameras
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
For awhile I have had the desire to grab a digital camera that I could pair with my Leica m6 as an everyday carry. Through months of looking at all the potential options I came across the Fuji XE-4. A camera that has quickly changed the way I take photographs after just a month of using it. I hope these quick initial thoughts can help guide you into narrowing down your search for a digital ever...
The Only Lens I Use on my Leica M6 | Voigtlander 35mm 1.4
มุมมอง 13Kปีที่แล้ว
If you are new to the Leica M mount system and are a tighter budget then the Voigtlander Nokton Classic 35mm 1.4. is probably the best overall lens I have found that is versatile and cost effective. In this video I want to talk about the benefits of 35mm as a focal length in general and specifically with this lens as well as some of the obvious limitations with the Leica M cameras. I hope this ...
Film Photography, Strobes, and Embracing Discomfort
มุมมอง 5Kปีที่แล้ว
I decided that I was going to try using strobe lighting for the first time on a film camera set up. Now flash photography is something that I regularly use in my professional work as a wedding photographer but on personal work like this I don't really have much to show in my portfolio. And in the spirit of embracing discomfort and wanting to challenge myself I wanted to try using strobes with a...
HP5 and The Rise of Black & White Film
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
In the midst of Kodak price hikes found myself turning to shooting more black and white film. My black and white film of choice being Ilford HP5 Plus 400 which in my opinion is the gold standard of black and white film. Now I know that is controversial take for some but let me tell you why I think it is the best. I do want to say I admittedly have some inherent bias because some of the most imp...
Studio Portraits on the Leica M6
มุมมอง 3.4Kปีที่แล้ว
In this episode of the Leica Diaries I wanted to try out 3 different portrait scenarios and get a sense of how the Leica M6 would handle each situation. In the video I start off with natural light, then move to photos with constant light, and then add in some motion blur into the portraits. I used the usual suspects of film in Portra 800 and Illord HP5. Both film stocks handled the lighting env...

What Makes The Leica M6 So Appealing?

It is great for those new to MF, but by no means for beginners only. It enables me to easily print 20 or 24" prints that no way i would make with 35 mm. The neg is 3x the size and the difference is substantial. So end result usage is a consideration. With 35 mm get 36 shots, and if only printing to 16" it is fine and easily portable and uses my killer nikon/zeiss glass. The 645 is totally portable in the stripped down configuration, wlf, hand crank. The RB once you learn to wear it cross body, can be carried for hours and quickly accessible but unless the additional resolution or tonal transitions is necessary, the 645 does all that is needed.

The price of the Contax is 80% celebrity endorsement. I’ve had three and all have broken. The electrics are brittle and will inevitably shit the bed, but all my XAs are running, and you can get ten XAs for one Contax. If Beyoncé busted out an XA they would cost $2k each too.

I have gotten into HP5 Plus and I have to say it is a gorgeous B&W film. Back in the day I was a big fan of Ilford's XP1 so I am no stranger to Ilford films. Original Superia 400 was my fave colour film and HP5 for black and white. A real shame it's not madr anymore. Look at any film box or packet, if its "Made in USA" then it's Kodak inside. If you manage to find "Made in Japan" then it's true Fuji.

However, Fuji did replace it with a new 400 ISO film that is made the Kodak just like their 200 ISO file is. Basically to keep their name in the film world Fuji is outsourcing their file for Kodak to produce. They basically make instax file which is where the money is. I don't know if they still make Velvia 100 or they just have enough stock to keep selling for a while. However, there seems little doubt that Fuji is pulling out of file. Their new acros B&W is made for them by Harmond in the UK.
