I noticed that you didn’t put the oil/wax on the sides of the board. Should the sides of the board receive the same TLC?

Great idea. It’s all so perfect and I admire it, until you put the iron handles on, then I was devastated.

As awesome as this looks, I think I would be afraid to use this thing. For one thing I wouldn't wanna damage it. For another I feel like I would lose myself in the optical illusion and end up cutting myself.

This guy makes the Very Very best custom cutting boards around. Had him make me an 18"X24"X2" out of black walnut for my chef wife for Christmas. WoW! Damn near had her in tears. Trust me folks, you won't be disappointed. And the price is spot on for the top quality Ryan produces.

Hi Ryan. I love your work & videos. They inspired me to make cutting boards. I have a problem with end grain boards warping after they have been washed a few times. (not in a dish washer just warm water & detergent) I oil & wax them. They stay flat for days then warp. Any ideas?

Amazing. My grandfather was a woodworker, still remember spending my childhood around him, hammering nails in random wood pieces and making him taking my socks out 10 times a day because sawdust was itching my skin. 😂 Amazing craftsmanship, i watched 30 minutes without missing a beat and usually because of shorts my attention span it’s bad. Also I’m amazed by how much tools evolved in the last 20 years. My grandfather had a big saw that had like 3-4 cutting mechanism and a big side /sled roller with two aluminiums drums with a belt made from a sandpaper. Him use to do mainly windows and doors. Nice memories. Him it’s like 80, retired. I will call him today to wish happy holidays.

You are putting a lot of destabilizing moisture into the wood using that type of glue. If the finished product is exposed to a room that is heated with hot forced air during the winter, it will be at a high risk of developing checks and cracks. I suggest using a urethane glue like Gorilla glue that absorbs moisture as it cures. Another thing that many people do not know is that the only wood that is acceptable to use for commercial food preparation is hard maple. Maple is none toxic and closed grain, so no pores to collect animal liquids from butchering nor poisons that can make you sick if ingested. A cherry tree can kill a cow if it chews on its leaves or branches and for this reason is not allowed to grow within reach of farm animals. It is also an open grained wood. Walnut has a natural insecticide contained within its cell structure which is not good for humans either and it has a larger open pore grain than even cherry. These types of cutting boards that you are producing should be labeled for decoration purposes only.
