BOOM! Fused Glass Bowl Disaster. Not a Project Tutorial, but Should Have Been!
Yep! It's a disaster. This project/tutorial for a fused glass drop bowl should have been fantastic, but fate stepped in. Actually, I did. It was my fault.
Anyway, have a look and let me know any comments.

Stack Those Diamonds! Purple Fused Glass Tutorial Project
มุมมอง 1.1Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Fused Glass Tutorial: In this project, I'll be using the technique of stacking small pieces and then tack-fusing them together. This is similar to a previous tutorial but with a little twist. This project would be suitable for anyone with basic equipment as there should be no need for grinding etc. Just cutting some glass, a tack fuse, and then a slump. #JeffPritchard (Australian Glass Artist) ...

Not Blasted Sand Art! It's Sandblasted Art! Isn't It?

No, it's not blasted sand art! That's something different. This is sandblasted art. Art that can be created easily and efficiently, especially for sale at markets. Sandblasting isn't a new technique, but in this video, I'm demonstrating a solution to making less expensive glass art items that can still be beautiful. Items that should sell in markets that are not in the best locations. #JeffPrit...

What are you using to assemble glass in. An aluminum pan?
Please tell me how you prepared and measured for this layout.
Hi Loraine. The video has the layout and sizes. What in particular are you looking for?
I really like this. Thank you.
Glad you like it!
I love this idea and the spoon rest is really interesting.
I’m glad it helps Kristi.
Thank you. A useful tutorial.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Jeff! I love your videos. I have a question. I am taking a beginning fused glass class. We did a bubble piece but the instructor said that she did not tack fuse first, and so I did the same pattern you did here on clear/black stringers and glued them on. She said we would full fuse only. Well, it came out with no bubbles. How does that work? I think my class mates even had bubbles in their pieces. Is there a reason why zero bubbles would form in the squares? Thank you!!!
If you did a long bubble squeeze on the way up that may be a cause.
Did the instructor have a comment?
@@RocketRoseArt She said she did not know why mine was the only one with no bubbles. I used the same technique as everyone else.
Were you using darker colours or a different kiln?
Brilliant that’s given me some unique ideas need to buy some helix templates now. Thanks Jeff
Have fun!
Thank you for everything. Hope you're better soon. Enjoy taking some time off.
Thank you, I will
its beautiful
Thank you
My goodness! I have had several disasters lately. I can put it down to tiredness and trying to do too many things at once. Don’t feel bad. Have a great time in Japan! If you can, do come back to us! I like your down to earth , practical approach. I don’t have lots more of equipment and restricted access to glass so I really appreciate you sharing failures as well as successes. Saves me time and money. Bon voyage!
Hi Michelle. I’m in Japan right now but just getting over the trip. Touristy stuff tomorrow
@@RocketRoseArt enjoy!
Hope you feel better have a good trip to Japan. Love your project tutorials and looking forward to seeing you again in November.
Thank you Judith.
I have learned a lot through watching your videos! Enjoy your break in Japan. YOU WILL BE BACK!!
Thanks Rosalind. Sure hope so.
I have the same diagnosis, Jeff. Many days are great-others I think I’m doing great and later wonder what I had been thinking even though I felt like I was on autopilot. Give yourself some grace. Have been advised to expect breakthrough episodes of even mildly dehydrated or the slightest bit unwell-I avoid anything risky on those days. Wishing you the best!
Thank you Perry. All the best for you as well.
Beautiful.
Thank you!
Is that scotch tape
Yes it is Joyce.
Very nice Jeff - what Boron Nitride spray product are you using here in Aus ?
It's labelled MR97. But I'm not sure if they are still using that name.
What would frit do between the holes?
Hi Debbie. You could fill them with frit. But probably coarse frit.
I’ll miss your videos, as a newbie I’ve found them really helpful and informative. I hope your break brings you back well refreshed.
Thanks Carol. I'm hoping the same.
Nice 😊
Thanks 😊
We all have disasters happen and we learn from them. I think you are being a bit hard on yourself. That said I hope you can get your health problems sorted and get your life back on track to enjoy your travels to Japan. Life is unpredictable and I wish you well.
Thanks Cathy. I think it just takes a bit of time and focus. Thanks for the wishes about Japan.
Great demo Jeff, just getting into making my own cabochons real fun. Please may I ask what is the tri square tool you are using? I too only have 1 wife. lol
I think you mean the Beetle Bits cutting system I'm using. I'm lucky. Great wife, great life.
Hi Jeff, like the other commenters, I want to wish you well with your health. As I think I’ve mentioned, I take care of my mostly bedridden husband now and have not had the joy of playing with sharp objects like glass lately. Life does have a nasty way of putting hurdles in our way. As my sculpture teacher once told me when a large piece of terracotta sculpture blew up in a studio kiln, you never lose the muscle memory of making that object and it makes the next piece that much easier to make. Mistakes are a way of learning. Anyway, I hope to someday get back to playing with glass or jewelry or clay. Enjoy Japan, even if you can’t find glass workshops to visit. I’ll still be here at the end of October hoping to see your next project.
Thank you Monica. I appreciate all your support, and certainly hope your husband improves and you get back to cutting something.
I love purple so I have to go with the purple, but I don’t know how to cut diamonds yet I’m a beginner,so I’ll stick with the purple color but with squares lol
Hi Debbie. Square will work fine, and look fantastic. Just change the layout.
Lovely piece. Which way up did you put the plate in the mold, green or clear on top? Also, is there a reason why you don’t use the cutter on the Beetle Bits.
Hi Charmaine. The clear on top. This shows the pillow effect on the bottom. I wasn't using it because it seemed a bit inaccurate with a slight wobble. It doesn't sit snugly on the bar. But since then I have managed to work out how to use the cutter. It comes down to how you hold it. A bit hard to explain.
@@RocketRoseArt I agree with the cutter situation. I have to press hard and sometimes it doesn’t start cutting until about 1cm in. Thanks for your explanation re the glass layering.
why do you sandblast?
Hi Jan. Only because it gives a nice matt finish.
I really enjoy your channel! Thanks for sharing
You are so welcome!
I like your design approach and color choice.
Thanks Cathy.
Jeff, you are one of the first if not the very first fused glass artist that I started following on TH-cam when I first started attempting to create fused glass projects. No matter who else I follow on TH-cam you have always been my all time favorite. I still go back and look at your prior posts and either make the project or learn something that I missed the first time around. I can’t even begin to tell you how sad I felt listening to you talk about your health problems. I’m 71 and my husband is 76 so of course we are also declining. The good thing I can say about getting older and having health problems is that it certainly gives a person a new perspective on life and sets your priorities straight. Best of luck to you and do whatever you are capable of doing that brings you the most joy and happiness. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
@@gwenpetersen5452 Hi Gwen. It’s your support that makes me want to get that motivation back. I’m hoping I can find a few artist studios in Japan that I can visit but so far I haven’t found much.
Oh man! Drops are so tough! Enjoy your rest and travels and wish you the best with your health.
@@rosalienellartglass Hi Rosalie. Especially if you’re not paying attention.😁 Thanks.
So sorry to hear about your health issues. Yes with good meds and sometimes implants you can live a very productive life. I wish you the very best in that area. Now about your glass disaster. Personally I don’t fuse things that are too close to the top lid elements. If I had a nice deep kiln I would but I have a Skutt Hot start Pro and there is not a whole lot of room from the floor of the kiln to the lid. So I just don’t do it as I think there are so many other things I can do that in the big picture I’m ok with that. Enjoy your trip to Japan. My dad was there at the end of WW II and I have a lot of beautiful things he brought back from there. I watched a National Geographic show about all the islands in Japan. Beautiful country. Enjoy! Life’s too short to dwell on the negative so when you get back to it make beautiful things. Like another commentor said….we will be here when you are back to it. Be safe.
