I have the same diagnosis, Jeff. Many days are great-others I think I’m doing great and later wonder what I had been thinking even though I felt like I was on autopilot. Give yourself some grace. Have been advised to expect breakthrough episodes of even mildly dehydrated or the slightest bit unwell-I avoid anything risky on those days. Wishing you the best!
So glad you are going to get some quality time off. Enjoy your travels and bring back some great Japanese inspiration! We'll be here when you get back. ❤
Jeff, you are one of the first if not the very first fused glass artist that I started following on TH-cam when I first started attempting to create fused glass projects. No matter who else I follow on TH-cam you have always been my all time favorite. I still go back and look at your prior posts and either make the project or learn something that I missed the first time around. I can’t even begin to tell you how sad I felt listening to you talk about your health problems. I’m 71 and my husband is 76 so of course we are also declining. The good thing I can say about getting older and having health problems is that it certainly gives a person a new perspective on life and sets your priorities straight. Best of luck to you and do whatever you are capable of doing that brings you the most joy and happiness. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
@@gwenpetersen5452 Hi Gwen. It’s your support that makes me want to get that motivation back. I’m hoping I can find a few artist studios in Japan that I can visit but so far I haven’t found much.
My goodness! I have had several disasters lately. I can put it down to tiredness and trying to do too many things at once. Don’t feel bad. Have a great time in Japan! If you can, do come back to us! I like your down to earth , practical approach. I don’t have lots more of equipment and restricted access to glass so I really appreciate you sharing failures as well as successes. Saves me time and money. Bon voyage!
Hi Jeff, like the other commenters, I want to wish you well with your health. As I think I’ve mentioned, I take care of my mostly bedridden husband now and have not had the joy of playing with sharp objects like glass lately. Life does have a nasty way of putting hurdles in our way. As my sculpture teacher once told me when a large piece of terracotta sculpture blew up in a studio kiln, you never lose the muscle memory of making that object and it makes the next piece that much easier to make. Mistakes are a way of learning. Anyway, I hope to someday get back to playing with glass or jewelry or clay. Enjoy Japan, even if you can’t find glass workshops to visit. I’ll still be here at the end of October hoping to see your next project.
I came within a hair of doing something similar this week. I entered 1500 degrees F in my kiln instead of 150. Yikes! It was my bad handwriting (and eye sight). I hope you enjoy your travels and I look forward to your future videos.
Hi Jeff So sorry for the explosion in ur kiln. I have a shallow kiln, but love dropout vases. So I ramp up v slowly. Typically, I start in the evening to get it to dropout temps in the am. But it was a GORGEOUS piece u created as a base. I loved it . I hope u re create the same base fr ur next dropout. Take care of ur health. Enjoy ur trip to Japan. Ull come back w many ideas.
It's nice to know that even the experts can have a disaster! (I've had plenty). Enjoy your travels to Japan and may your mind declutter and infuse with inspiration!
So sorry to hear about your health issues. Yes with good meds and sometimes implants you can live a very productive life. I wish you the very best in that area. Now about your glass disaster. Personally I don’t fuse things that are too close to the top lid elements. If I had a nice deep kiln I would but I have a Skutt Hot start Pro and there is not a whole lot of room from the floor of the kiln to the lid. So I just don’t do it as I think there are so many other things I can do that in the big picture I’m ok with that. Enjoy your trip to Japan. My dad was there at the end of WW II and I have a lot of beautiful things he brought back from there. I watched a National Geographic show about all the islands in Japan. Beautiful country. Enjoy! Life’s too short to dwell on the negative so when you get back to it make beautiful things. Like another commentor said….we will be here when you are back to it. Be safe.
@@donnadavis1284 Thank you Donna. My son has been to a lot of locations there and loves it. It’s just a pity we can’t stay there longer. Thanks for all your support.

She has her own specialty coffee that they loan for I think 40 years they had the special coffee so let me know and I’ll let her know that you’re coming. !
We all have disasters happen and we learn from them. I think you are being a bit hard on yourself. That said I hope you can get your health problems sorted and get your life back on track to enjoy your travels to Japan. Life is unpredictable and I wish you well.
I have learned a lot through watching your videos! Enjoy your break in Japan. YOU WILL BE BACK!!
Thanks Rosalind. Sure hope so.
