    Your body might just be getting use to the pain. I have a frozen shoulder right now and most days I feel fine. Till I try to reach up, behind my beck or lift anything. But it's not killing me as it does most people. So I'm probably used to it is my guess. Best of luck with the surgery.

    Happy to see you having a good time and feeling well before surgery. I hope the wait in the wings collab is just the first for Broadway shows. I feel like they are pretty fair in their approach. I would love to see the process get documented for every show if possible. I think history has shown that its not always the 'Best Musical' tony winner that is a crowd fave. Sometimes things dont gain traction until its on tour or about to close. I think social media is a great way to document things as well. Having a designated collector of the highs and lows of a show is awesome. What an amazing resource for fans and people in the business to reference.

    Mind-body connection is definitely a thing, which is not to say that pain/symptoms are all in your head. But just like stress can aggravate health problems, the reassurance of having not only answers but a planned course of action can help SO much (lowering cortisol and blood pressure, helping you sleep better, etc), especially if it coincides with a "good" part of your hormone cycle. I hope you continue to feel good but suspect you may get one more reminder of what used to be right before your surgery. Also correct, summer is amazing. Spring is actually my favorite but I love summer. I don't even care that it's hot. Everything is green and the days are long and the world is perpetually at play. Edit: never seen it but I suspect the movie Tia is describing is Silence of the Lambs with Anthony Hopkins.

      You're so right. Pain has aaaabsolutely correlated to my stress levels and plans of action. Bodies are wild! And yes: summer is the best!! ✨

    You tube and other online platforms are one of the reasons there aren't as many old school theatre critics - people don't read them. Theatre is also subjective so reading or listening to reviews is no substitute for actually watching something. I do find reading reviews after I have watched something helpful tho to compare against what I thought.

    I believe Hello Dolly's minuscule profit was not just due to Bette Midler's appearance fee, but the ludicrous amount of money spent on marketing over the course of its run. I refused to pay $400 to see Midler, so I paid $120 (for the same seat) to see Donna Murphy instead. I consider it a win on both counts.

  • @foreignparticle1320
    @foreignparticle1320 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Fundamentally, I think most Broadway theatres are too small to accommodate 2024 audiences. Not just referring to seat size (though that is definitely a thing), but the physical common spaces are inadequate to facilitate security processing, access control, merch/bar, ushering, box office, and overall audience volume. Of course theatre owners (and producers) want to sell as many seats as possible in a single performance so there is always going to be pressure to maximise capacity, meaning minimising seat width, leg room, and circulation space in the auditorium. And as the costs to produce on Broadway continue to rise, the chances of anything changing are pretty slim. I really REALLY would like them to demolish and rebuild the Shubert. I don't think that house is fit for purpose in its current state.

    I came out when I was 13. I only told my immediate family and my grandparents (I had been out at school for several months) and they were all cool about it. My mom especially, as she’d known since I was ~6. And I never had to come out to my extended family since my one other cousin who was out (a trans lesbian), asked me at dinner once “so you’re gay right”. I said “yup” and that was how my entire family found out I liked girls

    I have a moderate handicap, use a cane. I read reviews about a theater and horrible it was for able body people. Much worse for handicap, esp those more so than I. (like bathroom on 2nd floor, no elevator, not even a handrail!). There was much more, including things you said in this post, so I said no way, not going. The SHOW reviews were wonderful, great talent, performances; but the building was lousy-and unsafe.

    Perhaps if the three Broadway theater owners would hire more than ONE security person to search through bags the entrance lines would not extend to Eighth Avenue and make going to a Broadway show more unpleasant than going to a bowling alley. Patrons need to wise up and simply stop purchasing tickets. Prices will come down and circumstances will improve. Until then there is no reason for theater owners to change anything.

  • @conniescorner9021

    I have had many experiences, mostly good, but some bad. It does depend on weather and which theater we're talking about. Standing outside in the rain waiting to get inside does suck. What baffles me about the bathroom thing is that I usually am among the first couple of dozen people to get inside and upstairs. People around me will come up too, sit down for a second, then have to go back downstairs (depending on the theater) and go to the bathroom. I mean, it's assigned seating. You don't have to claim your chairs. Go to the bathroom before you come all the way up. And why do people bring large bookbags? There's nowhere to put them. They end up in their laps. FOH staff are always polite and helpful. Never a bad experience personally with them. You are spot on with a lot of these points. Even if I don't experience all of them, I can see that other people do.

    Speaking of analogue/digital, why is it impossible to change a ticket date online? I've had a few x where I was sick and couldn't make a show. The only option is to being your unused ticket to the box office and 'post date' if there's availability. If not you made a trip for nothing. I had 5 tix for life of pi the night the canadian wildfires turned the air orange with choking smoke. We didn't want to risk our health going out, particularly since I'm asthmatic. They refused to change our tickets.

    I am a co advisor for our Senior Class for a school in the Hudson valley. We gifted our two prom girls tickets to see Gatsby because they had been talking about it incessantly. To say they were psyched to go does not even cover it. They even dressed in Gatsby attire and looked fabulous. They just loved the show and the whole experience. It was great to give them the moment but they made their own fun and enhanced their own experience. They were so happy with the show. Great job to you and your Gatsby teams because you have a group of theater fans who are still walking on air. Enjoy your content. Wishing you good thoughts in regards to your medical issues.

    Because americans are spoiled is the TLDR. You take the subway to times square. If you cant follow a simple numbering system, an usher can and will help you find your seat. Concessions? Merch? This is fecking HIGH ART, if you want a hotdog, go to Yankee stadium. It used to be norm to not eat and drink during a performance, its a fuckin hour and a half, carefully calibrated to the average New Yorker's bladder strength. Bathrooms: see concessions. I saw Les Mis in 2003, VERY late in the run, because thats when i could afford the tickets. Ticket price is the ONLY THING KEEPING PEOPLE AWAY FROM THE THEATER. i remember the 70's when people lined up in the street to give blood to the red cross during the Broadway cares blood drives till AIDS forced a stop to it. Its how i saw Peter Pan at five. Turning Broadway into the lousy movie theater experience? Is a GUARENTEED way to kill Broadway outright, just as it murdered Opera and Ballet in generations before us.
