What about Sunday in the Park with George!? I absolutely love its orchestrations and how the impressionistic music adds that texture to the painting
Oooooh can I confess: I don't really know SITP 😅 I know!!
You should make a video about all the Disney Theatrical shows - ranking them and your thoughts / what you would have done differently.
Love this idea!!!
80s and 90s musicals! 🙌🏽 seeing the original cast of rent on Broadway at 17 years old changed my life. Opened my eyes and heart in a way that I had never experienced prior.
Love this and so jealous!
I have complicated feelings about Rent but it undoubtedly fundamentally shaped the landscape of musical theatre going forward. So many of the popular musicals of the 2000s have a little but of rent in them
Right??
These are definitely ones Im more familiar with - seen the movie version at least for most of them. While I may have thoughts on ALW, theres no denying his shows are often beginner friendly for new/young audiences. Even non musical theatre fans have often seen and enjoyed his work. I would love to see Starlight Express at some point- as long as it could be done safely.
I will always have a soft spot for Rent and Les Mis - I waited a long time to see both shows after falling in love with the music and Im pretty sure I started sobbing as soon as the orchestra started.
Looking forward to the jukebox musical list - I have mixed feelings in general about them, even though I really enjoy some of them.
Dreamgirls is still the most exciting musical staging I've ever seen. Jennifer Holiday torched the stage the day I saw her performance. I could not get out of my seat at intermission.
I AM SO JEALOUS
I know that it’s not technically a Broadway show since it didn’t reach the Great White Way until the early 2000s, but Little Shop of Horrors is my second favorite musical ever (only after Hello, Dolly!). I saw the movie for the first time at the ripe old age of six and it altered my brain chemistry irreversibly
Obsessed. Hello, Dolly was my first movie musical! And same :)
I agree that there needs to be a Dreamgirls revival and even a Crazy for you and Rent revival would do well. I discovered that this video just lets me know that the current landscape of Broadway is indeed headed back to the 80/90s spectacle-driven mega musical. Seems like quiet, stripped down shows are not what our audiences want right now.
Right? Agree so hard with ALL of this.
Honorable mention the The Life
Ooh deep cut!!
Rent was my gateway drug too, but Les Mis is higher up the list for me. However, I'm a sucker for historical musicals and sung-through scores.
I haven't seen Les Mis in YEARS and honestly would love to. Also wish I'd seen Liesl Tommy's production at Dallas Theater Center a decade ago.
Beauty and the beast is the top 5 for me.
Great video! I don’t think Les Mis is about the French Revolution, but the period just a few years after it.
Oops! Thanks for the correction :)
I saw Parade in 1998 and the original Broadway cast album is still on constant rotation to this day
Oh, I'm just so jealous.
These are my top 10 musicals of the 80s/90s!
10. The Secret Garden
09. Cats
08. Ruthless! (not a Broadway show but w/e)
07. Beauty and the Beast
06. The Lion King
05. Into the Woods
04. The Phantom of the Opera
03. Les Miserables
02. Parade - specificaly the original production that was much more operatic and bigger than the current more stripped down revivals. that original production is absolutely brilliant and chef's kiss
01. Sunday in the Park with George
Ooh I love this! I don't know Secret Garden and definitely need to remedy.
@@itskatharinequinn Its got a really lovely score! The book needs a good edit but I still enjoy it. The Tonys performance is really good th-cam.com/video/QlWOCwHU2fI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZwLCrduiK-dcmeEI
I recently saw a production of Miss Saigon in Fort Worth at casa mañana and it was soooo good.
I love my texas theaters!
I would have added Sunday in the Park with George but otherwise I 1,000% agree with your assessment! Rent is #1 in my heart forever, so much so that when I went to see Shucked the emotional nostalgia of being in the same theatre was real.
Oh my gosh I didn't even think about Shucked/Rent Nederlander connection!
What? No Secret Garden? :/ I'm also surprised that you didn't mention Phantom.
Ummm confession I DONT KNOW SECRET GARDEN
@@itskatharinequinn 😯 Such an amazing show! :)
@@itskatharinequinnI HATE SECRET GARDEN
@@snazzyethan8803 omg hot take
Thought Les Miz would be higher.
Nothing for Tommy? Maybe that makes the list after you see the revival?
Others I can think of, but might not make the list. Nine? Jekyll & Hyde? Scarlet Pimpernell?
Seeing Tommy next month and can't wait!!
@@itskatharinequinn I am going to Tommy next month too, but Suffs is next on deck along with several others.
You missed the secret garden! It definitely needs updating but it has some of the most beautiful songs in all of musical theater and I would love to hear your opinion on it.
I have...never seen it. I KNOW.
@@itskatharinequinn it’s so gorgeous I’ve been in it twice. last year I was dickon and today I will be playing Dr. Craven at my high school tonight.
During my production of Secret Garden someone beat me on stage and I couldn’t walk for 5 months, never mention secret garden again please
That guy is in the show with me. He is a hater.
And that was a lie that he just told
1. Rent Maureen and Joanne forever 2. Fame because of no lesbian couples. . Cats is so overrated and dumb. Phantom and Christine forever.
