I think Ken the Eagle’s weapon is supposed to be translated as “Birdarang” or “Birdrang” instead of “Bird Run”.

Poor Joe he get's to fulfill the cliche of the fighter that keeps fighting to being able to die on the battlefield. Jun's ending is pretty neat hahaha good reference fitting for this crossover. Now I'm kinda eager to try them out Jun seems beginner friendly along with the yo-yo bombs looking fun to use, Joe has plenty of style and brute charm on his moveset. Someday I'll play again TvC with a friend.

Question....are the commands for Ken and Jun (and even Tekkaman) based on their movelists from Tatsunoko fight? On a whole is this game a spiritual sequal to tatsunoko fight?

I think its under appreciated how much effort Capcom put into TVC interms of representing Tatsunoko, arguably more faithful than how they treated Marvel given they had not only the original show voice actors return but even got the rights to the TV show music.

I've been waiting for this episode! TVC got me into watching alot of Tatsunoko's IPs outside of Speed Racer, and Gatchaman was pretty cool. Can't wait to see you cover Casshan eventually

I know this is unrelated to Gatchaman but did you see the recent third Sonic movie. Personally I don’t care too much to see it because I’m not really a Sonic fan and also their other films out right now that I’m more interested in like A Complete Unknown and Robert Egger’s Nosferatu.

Additional fun fact for cactus bunker, there is an animation for him putting away the gun after successfully using the move but it's almost impossible to see in regular gameplay because the camera will always move away from it. You can see it if you use it to get the final hit on Roll with Cactus Bunker (because of her unique KO animation) he spins the gun while putting it away

I watched this show as G-Force as a kid, but it's one of those things you remember. watching more than what you watched. But I must have watched a lot of it cuz I remember the villain being a gay Batman that always escaped when you thought he was cooked. But individual eps and what went in em, and character name I couldn't. tell you. It doesn't help that it blends in with Silverhawks, also about a team of bird themed heroes that included a lil guy. As an adult with internet I did catch up that the real show was very different. and that Gay Batman was in fact intersex*, but that Japan's problematic portrayal of queer people had been deemed too woke for America. Don't let anyone tell you people didn't use to be so easily offended. As for the game I bought a Wii 4 years ago just for it. It's a shame for it to be locked to this console but making it was a legal nightmare, an I assume rereleasing it would be legal Hell.

I think it's interesting that they don't know which upclose explosion cause Joe' brain damage but like...probably both, right? Like one can be the main one, but the other one ain't exactly helping with that. Although the real kicker twist would be "It's congenital, that's why your parents were working for the space demon cult, to heal you."

It's funny how my initial experience with Gatchaman was rather similar. I vaguely remember G-Force on Cartoon Network way back in the day. I don't remember if I ever watched a single episode the whole way through, yet I seem to remember a side character dying in every episode. I'd been watching a lot of anime from multiple decades by the time TvC came out, but the "G-Force" characters were some of the only Tatsunoko characters I recognized at the time. The only other one I knew was Karas purely because I'd watched the ova a month before. Well damn, I guess Joe's why we never got a Haunting Ground sequel. He blew the castle to Kingdom Come.🤣

Megas XLR has a G-Force/Power Rangers parody sentai squad named "S-Force", which are basically the former mixed with the animal motifs and mecha from the latter (complete with their own not-Zordon). As shamelessly cheesy as they were I grew to love them as my appreciation for the Sentai genre grew. ...looking back, I can't believe _that's_ how I eventually learned about Gatchaman proper.

If they ever make a sequel, they should have add the Samurai Pizza Cats (With one of the members being the main playable characters, in this case, Speedy) with the other members functioning as assists, similar to the Commando Team in Captain Commando’s moveset. Great video, btw.

I'm a big fan of Tekkaman Blade/Teknoman. I didn't know about the Evil color option. I think the blue & green colors are based off the Sol Tekkaman units. The one Balzac and Noal piloted. Have you heard of the OVA Tekkaman Blade 2 as well as the 3 mini episodes. There is also Easter eggs to the 70s show in Tekkaman Blade as well.

Isao Sasaki was one of the vocalists for the intro of the first Super Sentai, "Secret Squadron Goranger", together with Mitsuko Horie (Voltes V).

Interestingly, Gatchaman had a couple of crossover comics in the west, such as Witchblade and the Thundercats. However, those are within the Battle of the Planets name.

Shame we never got Speed Racer in TVC. I'd like to imagine he'd use the Mach 5's gadgets as weapons for combos or zoning. Like the laser/ray as a way to poke at opponents from far away while the sawblades could be combo extenders.

I always thought Joe's stance was a reference to Miguel from Tekken. All that backstory from the show makes it so much cooler

Gachaman is actually a series I didn't gave a whole lot of familiarity with prior to TvC, but it's wild to see just how deeply influential it is all across the world. And it's also fascinating looking back at an older era of anime dubs and localization, where it really was "anything goes" with some seemingly arbitrary changes for the sake if it.

Huh, learning that the gatchaman crew has a ryu is funny, making both of the headliner characters have a friend of the same name (Ryu has Ken masters while Ken the Eagle has Ryu Nakanishi)

Feels refreshing to see someone else talk about the Gatchaman series in detail! It's not a show I grew up with, but after playing Tatsunoko vs Capcom and seeing how cool the characters looked, I had to look it up to see it for myself. And honestly, it's an incredibly cool franchise to get into, and I loved watching all of the original series, Gatchaman 2, and Gatchaman F. Do wish it wasn't considered so obscure in the rest of the world, though!
