The danger room stage was the coolest ^_^ Cyclops is so awesome himself, I especially liked him in x-men evolution which was the first animated X-men series I ever saw
When I was a child, Wolverine was my favorite member of the X-Men by far. Basically my favorite character period. Once I became a consistent reader of comics, Cyclops became my favorite of the X-Men. I really wish he was in UMVC3, but I'm happy with the mod. Cyclops is a great character.
I was a toddler when I first saw the MvC2 Arcade Cabinet at my local mall. I was vaguely aware of the Xmen cartoon amd the Movies coming out so I already knew who the Xmen were and Cyclops was my favorite of those. But something just clicked inside me at the character select screen to pick Cyclops upon seeing him for the first time. He was the first pick and I guess the fact I could control him just made it feel real. Since then Ive been huge fan of Cyclops and long for more love for him in any Marvel project
I noticed you knew Xmen Cota's Cyclops can crouch cancel HK and how danger room changes, that alone shows you definitely did your research. I play Cota a lot and its sad most ppl dont remember of the first game. Big props to you.
BEHOLD! I feel like poor Scott, in popular culture, gets what I call "Mario Syndrome", so frequently displayed as a jack-of-all-trades, well-balanced and heroic figure that everyone kind of forgets they're really freaking cool. I haven't gotten to watch the show yet, but the clips I've seen from X-Men 97 seem to have him as a proper badass again, and you love to see it. It still breaks my heart that he never got to be in a modern MvC game, but current Marvel seems much less restrictive on which characters/series are allowed to be in external media, so maybe if a true MvC follow-up ever happens, we'll be optic blasting again
I think Scott also has the issue of being on a team with a lot of very flashy and outgoing personalities while he's a lot more subdued so he doesn't catch the eye the same way. But that's why I love him
I started reading at X-Men vs Avengers to see the Cyclops was Right era after seeing a lot of cool pages from it and I can't stop reading X-Men comics now.
With acess to Shi'ar tech and acess to future travel, as well as knowing some of the greatest minds like Beast, Forge, Hank Pym, Reed Richards, Tony Stark. Im surprised Cyclops hasn't found a medical solution for his slight brain damage
Ryu would co-sign this video. I love how Ryu chose to be buds with Cyclops instead of Wolverine back in the day lol. When you got Ryu’s respect enough to shake your hand you KNOW that you are a GOAT hero. Thank God MY GOAT X-MEN Cyclops is getting the respect he deserves nowadays!
There was no comic panel that shows Scott's optic blast manifested, this was just implied in the comics. But watching Scott using the optic blast to cushion his fall in the '97 series was cool. Although, I think there should have been a bigger, deeper crater because it can destroy mountains
I usually try to reign in my enthusiasm a little when recording for these videos so as to not sound put on (though sometimes it'll leak out regardless, like the Phoenix Wight video) but noticed a handful of comments in previous videos saying I sounded bored, and I didn't necessarily disagree, so I figured I'd just let my enthusiasm for the subject matter take over here and dictate my cadence.
Scott Summers and Peter Parker are never allowed to be happy. SS... PP... COINCIDENCE?! srsly tho RIP to his utterly 11/10 VA Norm Spencer. Absolutely spot-on hero voice in every respect, none can do a better Cyclops to date
X-Men 97 he chooses cyclops the VA from Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 the winter soldier was Ray Chase. Jennifer Hale returns as the voice of phoenix from Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 became New Jean Grey replacing of Catherine Disher as New role Val Cooper
Dude, im the past i watched some Smash Bros content who explained every single move and reference, im thought it would have with my favorite franchise, Capcom Vs.im thought it wouldnt have because it have a lot of characters and content, but thanks im discovered your channel, its so incredible, you are making a good work, keep going with it 😁
THANK YOU!!!!! I just asked for this video to be made after watching the Psylocke. All of your videos are incredible and now my boy Scott gets the long overdue spotlight!
Man, the family tree is crazy with just the stuff that's been confirmed. You add in things that's been only implied, like how Mister Sinister has been implied to be a direct blood Summers ancestor, and it only gets more crazy.
How many hours have I played all the X-men cross over games and never noticed the X pose that the X-men do - this channel is awesome - this old guy is still learning new stuff!
Cyclops has definitely grown on me as a character but he was always one of my favorites since I'm a shoto fanboy. It was cool to learn some new facts about his VS appearances.
The original and long standing leader of the X-Men. The writers tended to be all over the place with the character in any media through out the decades. Portrayed either as very reasonable figure or a jerk, and make his life either heaven or hell. But, I still like Cyclops as a whole and understand his importance as a core X-Man. Jim Lee's design remains king and is the definitive Cyclops look IMO. Here is hoping X-Men 97 treats him very well. Dreams Don't Die!
As someone who is a fan of video games and crossovers I can say that this series is awesome because of how in depth you discuss each character video in this series I makes me want to see Capcom make another Vs. game or heck I just want to see more crossover not just from Capcom.
Cyclops in MvC2 had a sick combo that ran across the ground sans any jumping. Pulled it off MAYBE twice, and my brother and I freaked like we won the lottery. Good times.
damn bro, i always thought that there was something curious about cyclops' pose before his super, but i couldn't figure out why that was. love this bit about them making an x.
Alright! Now we are on my favorite X-Men character besides Wolverine. His Optic Blasts were slick and powerful, his fighting ability is well-versed, his X-Men vs. Street Fighter theme is my most favorite, and above all else, Norm Spencer brought the character to life, not just in the cartoon, but in the games, as well. He was and always will be the definite voice of Cyclops. Well done, my friend. Keep up the good work, and to quote the man himself... "Dreams don't die!"
Yeah, Norm Spencer's always going to be the voice I hear in my head for Cyclops. That said, Ray Chase is a really, REALLY good successor if those first few episodes of X-Men 97 are anything to go by.
I'm here to say I really love this series and your deep dive, it's really a trip down my memory lane. Maybe if you interested, do extend this moveset history to include the modded version of the characters from Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Community Edition too. I'd love to see the comparison between Capcom and the fan's work.
To be fair, Children of the Atom is an amazing work of art, a very understated and perfect badass name and each character feels awesome and unique. Not only did they add unique mechanics and include a lot of the X-Men characters in very cool fashion, they put a lot of love towards the villains as well. I mean Colossus, Omega Red, Juggernaut, Magneto- each of the cast is awesome and different. I mean Omega Red's whole design is very unique and completely in line with the comic's\cartoon's lore. His crouching animation has him crawling on the ground, very flavorful. Each character seems to have creatively and thoughtfully designed normals and special moves and some characters play completely different; it makes everyone feel fleshed out and relatively deep enough. They didn't have to put love and care towards some of the more obscure villains or characters- but a lot of the time they end up being awesome and give the game a lot of unique flavor and character. Characters like Spiral (Psylocke too) make the game very interesting and a bit different. Marvel really lucked out by picking Capcom, as Capcom went above and beyond to create a game that not only started a new genre of fighting games, but is a love letter to all the badass X-Men heroes and villains. They really made the characters come to life and even more badass, really solidifying these characters as awesome. There was a certain skill and talent at the time in Japan for videogame developers I think, and even more so it seemed like they were also passionate about X-Men enough to really create a unique work of art. An odd combination but somehow it created something special. True artists, I would say. They were even genius enough to hire the voice actors from the iconic renowned X-Men cartoon of the 90's, to which the cast did an outstanding job of just nailing some of those lines and noises. From Storm's "Yaaah!" to Omega Red's win line "Your lifeforce feeds me" it really is a perfect storm (har har.) Now that I think about, even the Danger Room stage has such nice detail to it with the emergency escape pods. There is something about sprite graphics that make those sort of environments look badass. Too bad we won't get something like this ever again seemingly, as that was sort of a creatively passionate and colorful time both for comics and videogames and both industries are in decline in various ways, although I would say videogames less so while comics have for the most part shat the bed. And then Disney isn't seemingly capable of making solid videogame decisions, as they're only just now realizing hey this videogame thing, it makes money. I mean they immediately got rid of the Lucas Arts videogame company after acquiring Star Wars, and seem to be very money focused on licensing out their characters. Wish they would focus on making good games. Midnight Suns is pretty decent, but it would be nice to get something like Marvel Ultimate Alliance or Marvel Vs. Capcom. I feel the only character in Mvc missing might have been Nightcrawler but in a way that let other videogames shine in letting you play Nightcrawler.
Cyclops was always my second fav x men after Wolverine. I never understood the hate he got. I always felt like I was the only one that liked him but then realized the reason why I liked him so much was because of the capcom games. Not many people played em like I did so it made sense but still cyclops is just a bad ass character that was severely underrated. I’m glad he’s getting his just due now.
Thanks, and I appreciate the concern! I always planned to have a Cyclops video drop in proximity to X-Men '97, but I remembered I got like, 85-90% through editing Captain Marvel's video months ago and never finished it, so I decided to wrap that up alongside that. Going to more than likely going with a weekly/occasionally bi-weekly schedule moving forward, though!
I recall Cyclops and Omega Red being stand ins for Iron Man and Doom respectfully in MSH vs SF due to Acclaim having the rights to both for games they made at the time. I don't remember if that is 100% true, but I believe that is the case
Always have been a fan of Cyclops since the 90's cartoon and kinda hated him being done dirty. Dude shoots lasers from his eyes..that's already cool and occasionally a Southern belle give him mouth to mouth. Evolution gives him a little bit more but then I read one issue where it shows Cyclops relaxing...and by relaxing I mean, "GOES TO THE SAVAGE LAND AND FIGHT DINOSAURS TO TEST OUT NEW COMBAT TECHNIQUES...for relaxation"
For some reason, whenever Cyclops took off his leather jacket at the start of the match, the word "Tuscany" enters my mind. So much so that whenever I encounter the word "Tuscany" it's Cyclops that I think of. Specifically this incarnation of him, and not the other costumes that make him look like a man-size condom.
Ah old cyclops leader heroes for X-men most a ionic coolest and badass can wait see now X-men 97 series cyclops say NOT! I love voice actor so epic fantastic job also request is Sakura Kasugano from Street Fighter and Marvel Vs. Capcom series here we go have a fun see ya here!
It's there in CoTA, but it's a slightly different X pose and it's harder to spot because it's only visible for a couple of frames (and hyper combo startups didn't start freezing the screen until Marvel Super Heroes)
Can't remember where I heard it from,or if this is wrong, but sometimes, composers would record their own sounds, and sample them to use in their music, which is probably why Captain Commando's theme shares some similarities with Cyclop's theme.
You forgot in your explanation in the beginning in connection to Astonishing X-Men later in the vid (Scott’s crowning comic) he actually CAN control his optic blasts.
I purposefully left that out since it was (mostly) temporary and the resolution to that subplot ties into one of the later twists in that Astonishing run.
now this was one I was looking forward too, while he's definitely not my favorite Marvel character, I do think he is one of my favorites at least form the X-Men, that flashback scene from the Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon has always stuck out in my mind as just a really great scene, I honestly kinda wish he was in more of the VS games tbh, as for my experience playing him, well I've only got Marvel 2 to talk about, and he was one of the first characters I picked when I first tried the arcade ladder, I wouldn't say he clicked with me though, maybe I'll try him out again sometime, but he isn't on my main team, I do hope he comes back if there somehow is a new Marvel Vs game though. I would also like to mention that in his appearance in Lego Marvel 1, his optic blast has a very neat sound effect when using the beam version, it's like someone on the sound design team said, "Y'know what? not enough bass" and just turned it up to 11, it's super impactful, kinda sounds like an over tuned speaker now that I think about it. And since I feel like asking, how's X-Men 97?
'97 is shockingly good so far. I had let my Disney+ sub lapse since I wasn't really using it, and was going to wait and see how the full season shook out before maybe resubbing, but the overwhelmingly glowing praise for the first few episodes got me to cave, lol. You're either going to hate or love the animation style, but everything else kinda blew my expectations away. The writing (Magneto gets a particularly great monologue) and action scenes in particular are pretty fantastic.
@@TheSeventhForce I see, I'm not really interested in watching it (Because I don't really care about the X-Men much as I've said before) but that's good to hear.
Quarter Circle Down really is a weird move IMO. I think the only game I know that uses this input regularly is Power Instinct, and that's only in the early entries.
See it's funny, because you'd think deci- being the prefix would clue people in on that, but for whatever reason, it just gets used as a general catch-all term for large scale destruction. That said, I also got mixed up and thought it meant reducing to one-tenth, not _by_ one-tenth. Oops!
Fun fact: one of the animators in X-men 97 is a mvc2 player and tried to sneak in the cyclone kick in the warehouse fight, sadly, it didn't get added
Yep, saw that tweet from the storyboard artist, too. Super cool fight sequence nonetheless, though!
They did give him a pretty sweet superhero landing
How come M.O.D.O.K Get the Marvel vs Capcom reference, but not X-men 97 ?
that sucks
@@TheSeventhForcefor real. I’m glad Cyclops is still super cool at least. I wonder if he can be able to sneak in a Gene Splice next time.
There's a meme about "typical X-Men plots" where they all can basically summed up as ruining Scott's day.
"Wolverine exists, by extension ruining Scott Summers' day" is my personal favorite of those
*Mr. Sinister opens the door*
Audience: GASP 😮
Mr. Sinister: Hello X-Men friends, oh Scott, didn't think I'd see you here. (Troll Face)
Scott: Ah shi... here we go again...
The fact that he wasn't in MvC3 was criminal.
Thank God for mods
Seeing Cyclops get all the love, if only for a moment, must be the most satisfying payoff for the fans who stood by him during the 2000s and 2010s.
My boy is finally getting the respect he deserves 🥲
That’s me. Cyclops has always been my GOAT X-Men so I’m glad he’s finally being done justice now
Thats me but the 97 series is just starting and Im afraid they will somehow screw it all up. 😅
#cyclopswasright 💗
He's been my favorite since I was 3... I'm 26 - He's been a joke in everything outside of comics for my entire life. This week has been a dream 🥺😞
The danger room stage was the coolest ^_^
Cyclops is so awesome himself, I especially liked him in x-men evolution which was the first animated X-men series I ever saw
Evolution was great. We'll see how '97 holds up, but I still think Evolution is still the best written X-Men cartoon at the moment.
Thru clone engine, cyclops technically is in umvc3 now. He's pretty sick too
He may not be back officially but at least he's a modded character for UMvC3. And hey, that shows people want him back someday. Great video dude.
I don’t wanna be the “guy who brings up UMVC3 modding in every single CvL comments section” but that entire scene makes me so happy :)
13:06 😂 I love how Wolverine walks off all salty when Jean Grey comes up to hug Cyclops
It’s always therapeutic when Cyclops and Jean hug and it make out right in front of Wolverine 😂
@@carlbloke8797 🤣
Me and my friends call that his "lawn blast". Hell, his deck in marvel chanpions has a card where he is quoted as saying "get off my lawn!"
That brief moment where you used Cyclops's theme from Mutant Apocalypse hit just PERFECTLY!
Absolutely had to stick it somewhere in the video 😂 Good ear!

Yeah, if we're ever lucky enough to get a new MvC game, I'd hope Capcom isn't as restricted as they were with Infinite and 3.
I think Scott also has the issue of being on a team with a lot of very flashy and outgoing personalities while he's a lot more subdued so he doesn't catch the eye the same way. But that's why I love him
I always thought Cyclops and Ryu where the greatest team ever.

6:18 For when Cyclops is feeling saucy~
good timing! ive been thinking about what cyclops from the tag games is like after seeing clips from the new xmen show
There was no comic panel that shows Scott's optic blast manifested, this was just implied in the comics. But watching Scott using the optic blast to cushion his fall in the '97 series was cool. Although, I think there should have been a bigger, deeper crater because it can destroy mountains
Cyclops is badass and “DREAMS. DON’T DIE!” is probably my favorite fg quote of all time.
You’re always on point with the comic recommendations btw 👍
I’m so glad people are finally being nice to Cyclops, I always thought he was so cool growing up, and the Versus series only boosted that
Wolverine and the x men was the first animated x men show I ever watched. Scott may have not been the leader but I liked him and logan equally.
Wow, that was quick. I guess it only makes sense to do Scott now since the new X-Man show is out
There's a noticeable excitement in your voice during this video. A real Cyclops fan talking up Cyclops

This video series is actually partially inspired by a Smash Bros. video series from the early mid 2010s that did that exact thing!
X Men 97 also brought me here!
I think that Justin Wong's comeback against Yipes in EVO was the best Cyclops moment in video game ever. My opinion, though
A comeback so godlike it always overshadows the fact that Yipes actually ran it back and went on to win Evo that year
Amazing video. Thanks for shouting out, "behold, optic blast". It is a great line
Giving the danger room stage effects that react to the players movements to simulate them dodging obstacles is so creative wow

Sadly, in the days of future past stage in umvc3, he shows up as one of the characters from the main mvc2 cast that was killed
14:50 I was looking for that during the COTA segment, but it wasn't there. It looks like his iconic pose wasn't implemented yet.
That would explain a lot!
Do Magneto next
You forgot in your explanation in the beginning in connection to Astonishing X-Men later in the vid (Scott’s crowning comic) he actually CAN control his optic blasts.
I purposefully left that out since it was (mostly) temporary and the resolution to that subplot ties into one of the later twists in that Astonishing run.
My second favorite fighting game
Dreams don't die
BeHOLD!!
OPTIC BLAST!!!!!
Need to see if there's a sound check on the simulator . "Behold!" would be a good phone notification alert.
Ray Chase voice of Cyclops replacing of Original late Norm Spencer for X-men 97.
Bro this kind of video are sick as f , u should do one of omega red is theme and moves are fantástic , i think he is veri underrated
now this was one I was looking forward too, while he's definitely not my favorite Marvel character, I do think he is one of my favorites at least form the X-Men, that flashback scene from the Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon has always stuck out in my mind as just a really great scene, I honestly kinda wish he was in more of the VS games tbh, as for my experience playing him, well I've only got Marvel 2 to talk about, and he was one of the first characters I picked when I first tried the arcade ladder, I wouldn't say he clicked with me though, maybe I'll try him out again sometime, but he isn't on my main team, I do hope he comes back if there somehow is a new Marvel Vs game though.
DREAMS DONT DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
It was weird to find out about sad claps from a machine girl song
I just need to paint the X on the belt, and my Cyclops costume is done.
We gotta bring back interactive stages like the danger room
Agreed, I'd love to see more stages play around with that idea
My favorite character in the series
binge worthy ass videos. ty man
thanks, glad you like them!
I miss games that dont tell you what to press and doesnt have so many cut scenes
Quarter Circle Down really is a weird move IMO. I think the only game I know that uses this input regularly is Power Instinct, and that's only in the early entries.
I think some Guilty Gear characters used it on occasion as well (dunno about Strive, though)
To me my X men
Decimate means to reduce by 1/10th.
You should of brought up the umvc3 mod that changed viper into cyclops.
See it's funny, because you'd think deci- being the prefix would clue people in on that, but for whatever reason, it just gets used as a general catch-all term for large scale destruction. That said, I also got mixed up and thought it meant reducing to one-tenth, not _by_ one-tenth. Oops!
0:27 is it even could have been gold ball
Goldballs legitimately being one of the most important mutants for the last few years will never not be amusing to me
Great video
These are so fun!
Cyclops had a million moves
MY GOAT.

He was a true shoto I main him
Oof cyke. Didn't know you were on a nickname basis with him
