    I have dug better 2CV wheels up in my field than that! I cant believe someone fitted a galvanised chassis to this, it must have been in an advanced state of decomposition so why would someone do that ? It looks like i has been in a salt marsh for 20 years, I have never seen rust like that. At least you have a VIN plate, with the chassis it would be worth buying a new body, that could go straight on the chassis, and you could spend your time working on the ancillaries . Good luck! • @453421abcdefg12345
    @453421abcdefg12345 ปีที่แล้ว

    You have made a really good job of cleaning up the rusty bits, but I find it is easier and much better in the end to take a pile of rusty bits along to the local sand blaster and get them turned back into new parts, most sand blasters also offer an etch prime service, so there is not so much urgency to get them painted up. Good luck! Chris B.

    • @453421abcdefg12345
      @453421abcdefg12345 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@philwesty21 Unfortunately that is the way with sand blasters, I have my own sand blaster which I blast the stone in the house with, but I will use that out in the field where the sand will not case a problem,(like in did in the house), it is a really handy thing if you can just take it in and pick it up new in 2 weeks, you can also see all of the faults! Chris B.

  • @453421abcdefg12345
    @453421abcdefg12345 ปีที่แล้ว

    You have made really good progress! The tent is a really good idea, I have often thought of getting one of these so I can work outside in Summer, it goes up to 45 degs C here and you cannot pick up a spanner as it is too hot, but one of these tents would be ideal, thanks for the tip, and for spraying it would be ideal! Chris B.

  • @453421abcdefg12345
    @453421abcdefg12345 ปีที่แล้ว

    One thing that would be a huge asset to you is a sand blaster, of course you would also need a 15 cfm compressor, but they are so useful on a job like this, especially when you remove a rusty panel and find rust under it, I use Phosphoric acid on any rust i am welding on top of, it neutralises the nasty red stuff. one handy tool you could make for spot weld removal is to get a 12" Power Hacksaw blade and grind the end to a chisel edge, it is so thin you can slip it up between the panels and it will shear off any remaining metal without distortion. Chris B.

  • @453421abcdefg12345
    @453421abcdefg12345 ปีที่แล้ว

    You are really doing well on this rebuild, but I think this is not the first rebuild you have done! Most people doing this would have cut out the rusty bits and thrown them away, not you, you have them stored for future reference, so many times when restoring things you need to refer to the rotten bits you have thrown away, they are a very important part of the process. You could not have chosen a better working environment than you have here, it looks very relaxing and pleasant, it looks like you are down here in the South of France, What time period did you build this over, the continuity is perfect, it looks like you did the whole job without putting any thing away, I wondered when you were going to get a spot welder on the job, very handy tool to have. Well done! Chris B.

    Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!

      Hi Keith. Getting any panels for Suds is extremely hard which is why restoration work gets so expensive. Keep an eye on ebay.it and bear in mind 33 inners can be modified to suit. I'm a stickler for getting even unseen right and making repair panels with all the right strengthening shapes takes a lot of time. I think you can still get the upper wing rails from John at just suds 07932 750976. He may know where to find some other panels. Scour the web, there's supplier of Alfa parts all over Europe. You'll need to learn the part names in multiple languages too! The Facebook group can be handy too, but Sud people guard their stash cautiously!
