  • They thought it was all over...
A new project has arrived and it might be a challenge too far.
I need your help to decide what to do next..
    1. scrap it
    2. rebuild it
    3. twist it - into something else

The only thing good seems the chassis. I can hear my wife go: what did you buy now? Can’t wait to see what you will make of it.

It’s too far gone! Get rid and look for one in the £1500 to £2000 range.
New body shell around £4,500 is the best way forward in the long run. I bought the MCC one from the 2cv shop made on original Citroen tooling and cataphoretically dipped. No regrets!

Yep I think I would go for another shell and build one good car. Look forward to the build!

I’ve got a 1988 2cv body shell available for around £200 which needs a lot of work but is much better than that one. East Lancashire

Much as I like your videos Phil and would love to see you have a go at it, I’d say that shell is beyond redemption. It’s stuffed in every weak location that a 2cv can be. You’d end up spending more time and money on it than you’d get for it. If it was a rare model it might be worth doing but an 86 602cc isn’t rare. At least you were still laughing at the end of the video. Best of luck with it, if you do go ahead with it.

I hear you. There aren't really any good bits except the underpinnings. I'm on first name terms with the scrap man fortunately 😂

Trouble is that restored 2cv's on galv chassis are fetching some reasonable money now. You might see some return if you re-shell it. Otherwise it might be worth you thinking about a Lomax conversion. Those inner wing to side panel and the boot floor repairs are 'interesting'.

I have dug better 2CV wheels up in my field than that! I cant believe someone fitted a galvanised chassis to this, it must have been in an advanced state of decomposition so why would someone do that ? It looks like i has been in a salt marsh for 20 years, I have never seen rust like that. At least you have a VIN plate, with the chassis it would be worth buying a new body, that could go straight on the chassis, and you could spend your time working on the ancillaries . Good luck! Chris B.

Burton Kit Car with a 652cc conversion, uprated suspension springs and Burton dampers.

Go for it Phil! The joy for me is to see how you tackle the problems, I would love to see some more welding detail in the videos, I have a similar project running at the moment and would love to fix rather than re-shell. If it’s not hard it’s not worth doing 👍

How about finding another one that is moderately decent but is a major MOT failure on the chassis. Transfer the chassis over. There may just be a few parts on this one that might be usable/recyclable.

Great to see you’ve got another 2CV we can watch being saved. Looks pretty bodged up that shell. Almost as rusty as a late Portuguese built one. Ha. Handy galvanised chassis and parts to have though, if you can get a better shell. Looking forward to watching this one :-).
