Junk going up your nose
I just finished my 1st semester start 2nd semester July 3rd don’t graduate till end of 2025. Love watching your videos it’s very informative. Cant wait for you to post your videos on passing boards 🎉
Thank you for your kind comments and congrats on finishing your 1st semester. I know graduation seems like a long time away, but it will get her sooner than you realize! My school was kind enough to give us all free access to the Fitzgerald board prep program. I plan to start using it to prepare once my summer semester is finished. The plan is to take my boards as soon after I graduate as possible.
Hi Rick! New subscriber here. I start Psych NP school in October. I am so very glad I found your channel. I also just joined your community. Great video!
Thank for your comment and welcome to the community. Also, congrats on starting NP school. Be sure to watch my video about how to prepare for your semester and what to do before school starts. What is your projected graduation date?
@@MyPMHNPJourney It would be October 2027

Sir I'm from Bangladesh. I'm interested to complete this course online. I'm 38 years old.
I wish you the most success!
Why don't schools procure hospitals and clinical sites for their students? They make enough money, its concerning that it's on the students. Have you tried asking pediatric offices?
I am not sure why they don’t help more. It seems that it would be a great selling point for the school’s program at the very least. I’d be interested to hear from others about why they think schools are practically mute on this subject!
Its great seeing videos from the view of an older student! Rooting for you.
Thank you! Are you also in NP school now?
I am 54 years old just finished NP school and starting my first NP job. Age is a number, never too old.
I agree 100%! Congrats on finishing. I am sure you lived experiences will be a tremendously valuable asset to the care you give your patients!!
Well-done! I've played drums since I was young and really want a new electronic kit. :) Look forward to following your journey as a I enter an accelerated BSN from being an RT.
Awesome! Thank you!
I’m going to binge watch all your videos!!! Thank you so much
Wow! Thank you for the support and I hope you find it helpful. Please consider joining our community as well… link is in the description and comments.
I’m so glad I found your channel. I have my BSN and want to go back to school for my np. I’m about to be 49. I’m nervous 😬
You can do it. I was older than that when I started nursing school!!
Just finished my program at UT Arlington. It was very difficult as it’s supposedly one of the harder programs in Texas, but it was doable. Just a piece of advice: DO NOT GIVE UP. There were a few times I wanted to tap out, but I stuck with it. You can do it. Let me know if you have any questions and I’d love to help you. 👊🏼🙏🏼 P.S. Get your preceptors NOW. That was very difficult for a lot of people.
Congrats on finishing your program. You are so right, persistence is the key. And I totally agree with your preceptor advice. I started looking for a preceptor as soon as I was accepted into the program!
@@MyPMHNPJourney RE: Paying for preceptors. There are a lot of them that won’t do it unless they are paid. I suggest trying to find a psychiatrist because many of them don’t want money, they just want to practice altruism. One of the primary reasons for me wanting to be an NP is to get away from the “nurses eat their young” thing and the fact that many are soooo catty and arrogant. Well, there are a lot of arrogant and greedy NPs too. We should all try to help one another so we will be taken more seriously. Appreciate your reply. 🙏🏼
What was their explanation for why you don’t qualify for a student discount even though you are a student? Is this some kind of mental game?
They never did give me a reason. Someone eventually called me and told me exactly what the letter from my school had to say (which was what I had sent them before). The school was kind enough to draft another letter, which they did eventually accept! Silly.
What NP school are you going to? I have never heard anyone say this. And what program has you write a thesis? 🤔🤔 Where I went we had so much in depth material and tested almost as much as in RN school. It was not even close as to which level made sure that you had to actually know how things worked. Unlike in RN school where you could remember things.
Thanks for watching and commenting. This video you are commenting about is from a colleague’s perspective, not my own. I have found the PACE of my PMHNP program to be more manageable than nursing school, but the content has been more challenging. My program does not require a “thesis”, it requires a Capstone project. This is a project to design a quality improvement research program. It is the equivalent amount of work as a thesis. I’ll often refer to it as such since it gives people a better point of reference.
@@MyPMHNPJourney Ahhhh, now I understand. Looks like you have some PDSA in your future with the QI project coming.
The ER or hospital would have to hire you. But they don’t hire providers do they? You’d have to join a medical group to work there? Can you shed some light how that works?
Thanks for watching and commenting. Actually, hospitals do hire providers, at least the one where I work does. Around here the behavioral health facilities also hire providers. While my personal preference is to go into a private practice or medical group, there seems to be more opportunities at in patient and large corporate clinic facilities.

I think they are both hard and demanding, just in different areas. NP school build on the skills and knowledge gained previously. Going to the right school helps if you have professors who love what they do and want you to succeed. They can really help if you express your concerns or difficulties.
I agree, very similar to my school experience!

I’m in my first year of online pmhnp program. So far so good! My school has brick and mortar locations, but has a large online presence. So far so good! I feel like I’m learning a lot, but you definitely have to be self motivated!
So true! I think the self motivational qualities developed in NP school translate to practice as well. My program is mostly online, but we do have several multi-day on campus events to attend. Keep up the good work!

Thanks
Welcome
Do you pay your preceptors and how much$$
This is a great question, one I am often asked. Many preceptors want a fee for their time. Around here it can be anywhere from $500 to $1500 per semester. I am fortunate in that my school will pay preceptors a very small hourly stipend, however, I am prepared to make up the difference out of my own pocket for their full fees.
What is the Picmonic system and how can I access it?
Picmonic (www.Picmonic.us) is a science backed learning and study platform for nursing, NP, and medical students. It leverages multi-modal and spaced repetition techniques to increase retention and reduce learning time. I have used it since I was in nursing school and highly recommend it to every nursing or NP student!
Im 49 and dropped out of college because my grades were so bad. I had a 0.67 GPA which is basically failing (nearly) every class I ever took, haven't had any schooling since then (25 years ago) and I have never had any form of job. I was also in special ed. I want to go to nursing school but I'm wondering if that is actually possible. I also no nothing about medicine.
Thank you for your comment and for watching the video. I commend you for considering nursing school. It is not easy and it takes a lot of dedication and effort to complete. First, whether you want to complete a 2 year or 4 year school, you will have to take all of your state required core classes, i.e… English, math, literature, etc… before you start into nursing school. I suggest you decide which school you want to attend and apply. If you are accepted, you can meet with a guidance counselor to help map out your classes and get access to resources that will help you. Keep me informed on what you decide to do!
Ahhhh, the irony… in the care field, but won’t care for oneself. Typical white American male has to brag about what a Type A worker he is, overpacking his schedule and overextending himself… think burnout might be in the future?….This is the brilliant American way…. 🙄

Hello, thank you for the videos. What do you record your videos on? iPhone or digital camera ?
Mostly my iPhone.
Does the program find your clinical practicums or do you have to find your own practicum. I ask as this is a Canadian thing..
Good question. Thanks for watching the video and taking the time to comment. I have very, very limited support from my program regarding clinical sites and preceptors. From what I understand, this seems to be the standard for most programs. You might see my video about using LinkedIn to find preceptors and sites. Please consider subscribing to my channel and even joining our community at the link in the video.

I just did an interview for a Post-BSN-DNP psych course yesterday and I really hope I get in. I got an A for patho during my BSN but the ptsd is real so the idea of advanced patho scares the heck outta me!!😅ALL the tips, please!!🙏🏻
Congrats on the interview! Hope you get a positive response soon. Adv patho is a tough course. I used Picmonic (www.picmonic.us) and Advanced patho made easy (link in description) to help me get through it. Recommend you check those out!
@@MyPMHNPJourney I saved the amaon links you mentioned for psych texts on another video and will revisit picmonic to see if i can at least start prepping for class. Thanks much!! ^_^
This was the best video I have seen about NP school ! I’m an RN BSN and applied for FNP but still not sure I am up for it . I’m 51 and finished my BSN two years ago . Thank you for taking the time to make this video as I’m sure you are very busy !
Thanks for the nice comment and for watching the video. You CAN do this! Just watch some of my other videos about preparing and the “must do” things before you begin. Great video I’m in the same boat demographically as you described. I’m in my very first quarter for PMHNP. I am very excited! It’s awesome that you would share your journey from your perspective with us. Although I’m excited I am also a tad bit nervous…. But I’ve been here before. Thank you ☺️
