If you're looking for chill, but passionately researched videos covering games both new and old, this might be the place for you. I like to think that I have a unique perspective on games, as I'm someone who grew up through many generations of video games starting with the NES, while simultaneously being mostly away from the gaming scene due to mostly playing multiplayer games exclusively for nearly a decade. With Humblemud, I'm rewarding my inner child by playing classic games I've never played before and going on exciting adventures in new games, all while chronicling my gaming journey along the way. I'll also be giving my thoughts on the industry, the psychology behind games, and discussing my 'in-between gaming' thoughts -- those moments when you're out in the real world thinking about gaming. Which for me, is all the time. So... expect a lot of material from me. I generally upload every week -- if not, every other week.

TOP 10 GAMES Played in 2024 | New, Retro, Indie, AAA | Humblemud
Humblemud's top 10 games played in 2024. These are games I played for the first time this year, regardless of the year they came out. I focused my picks based on games I beat. I played 80 ish games this year, beat 27, and this list distills down the top 10 and a bunch of honorable mentions! Note: If I show footage of this game in the video, you can assume I love the game! Even those not 'officially' chosen.

WHY (i think) WIND is GREEN in JRPGs and ANIME

Ever since I was a kid, I've noticed several instances in anime where wind magic or wind users are colored green. Great list, it gives me a few games to look into. If you haven't tried it yet, and like strategy RPGs I highly recommend Unicorn Overlord. Easily my #1 for 2024. And the art is simply gorgeous to watch in motion!
Thank you! Which ones caught your attention? Unicorn Overlord has gotten a lot of praise in just this comment section alone! Definitely will have to check it out!
I love how you just seemlessly just let the viewer know that hey if you wanna hear more on this there’s a video on it already and this is that video so you know. It’s so helpful and informative I love it. Thank you man
Thanks! I just try my best to let people know, especially since I'm just very briefly going over each of these games!
@ well you do a fantastic job. Your channel is truly something else
Ms humblemud LOL a lucky woman fs
Haha I hope she thinks that!
AYOOO alien isolation is such a 10/10 game
It really is!
Awesome list! Love that it's a mix of new and old - it's what I do! :D I need to get on playing Silent Hill 2!
It's so good!! I hope you enjoy it! And yeah honestly playing new AND old is the true big brain move!
Oh boy, I'm itching to reinstall Granblue. Personally, I'm very excited for you to play more of the Ys series! It's such a varied and interesting series with passion throughout.
Granblue was such a treat. And yeah, I'm in love with Ys now!
its the same with the first 3 WoW games, vanilla, tbc and wotlk. nothing can beat that feel...
Fuu Hououji from Magic Knight RayEarth is also a green wind user althought its an anime and not a game
Wait…Fuu…. Fujin, huh neat!
Yup! I have a feeling that influenced the Fuu character!
Ys looks so cool, I've never heard of it before so that'll be yet another game added to my backlog thanks to you lol I'm so glad your number 1 choice was what it was because I was so worried about how it would end up and I agree they really knocked it out of the park!
Oh yeah, it was so good! I was also worried tbh when I first looked at trailers but they killed it! Ys is fantastic. I'd highly recommend playing either Ys 1&2 Chronicles like I did or the original Ys Books 1&2 for the TurboGrafx CD. Don't bother with the DS versions of Ys 1&2
My favorte games I've played this year have been Unicorn Overlord and Marvel Rivals. The former being a beautiful strategy RPG with tons of colorful characters and an addictive gameplay loop. And the latter being a VERY fresh take on the hero shooter genre that feels fun and very friendly to people new to shooters.
I've heard nothing but good things about those games! Marvel Rivals is killing it right now
@@humblemudgames It's super fun! I really like how the support/healing characters play. :)
Great content, as always! I have a quick question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (mistake turkey blossom warfare blade until bachelor fall squeeze today flee guitar). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
those are certainly words!
That's a lot of games!
It is!! A lot of great ones!
Wonderful list. The more I see of Enslaved, I want it haha. I just picked up the Megaman collection on Gamecube. No QOL improvements there for me (eep) but I'm excited. 😊
The Mega Man GC Collection is pretty good! If I remember correctly, they mapped the controls backwards for some reason (?) but hopefully that doesn't bother you. That may have been the MMX collection though, I'm not sure. Enslaved is really good, but there are some narrative hang-ups in certain places. Characters acting in a way that doesn't make a lot of sense considering the danger around them; that sort of thing. And the ending is VERY divisive. But overall I enjoyed it, and I really want to try the DLC because I've heard it's super fun!
Awesome list(and video as well)! Glad to see you had a pretty stacked year when it comes to gaming! I on the other hand played about nearly 21 games or so out of which I only finished about 13...I think. But anyways, this past year was a year with a lot of firsts for me when it comes to playing games and gaming in general. This was the first year I attemped doing my own youtube videos(the ones I made are pretty rough but I'm proud of those videos regardless), the first year I fully completed a PSP game and played half way through a GameCube game through the help of emulation and this was the first year I can say I am a proud Nintendo Switch owner now(as of now I have about 3 physical games and 5 digital games). Though anyways, the 10 games I beat and think were the best I played this year have to be 3 of the 4 mainline Ninja Storm game(still working on finishing Storm 1), Ben 10 Protector of Earth(I played it when I was going through a rewatch of Ben 10 Classic and Alien Force and I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would), an indie horror hidden gem of a game called Bunny Graveyard that really showed me that horror games can also be funny and not just scary(I think this is one of the few horror games I laughed out loud at besides the original Resident Evil on the PS1, Corpse Party Blood Covered, Mogeko Castle and Your Turn To Die ~Death Game by Majority~) and as for the other games I played this game...I finished and very much enjoyed both Zelda BOTW and Pokemon Shield after wanting to play them ever since they came out, I beat the remastered versions of the original Dragon Quest and Prince of Persia games on the Game Boy Color and the SNES respectively and I revisited the Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Trilogy after deciding to buy the Mobile version of the modern remastered versions of the games on a whime while there was a huge sale going on. Anyways...I hope that 2025 will be another year of firsts for me and that I'll play more games this year if I can(just a few more maybe because I may like games but I don't want too play too many games either, just those that I like or am interested in because I did make the mistake of trying to play every GBA game ever made once and I didn't had the best time in the world playing all the random games I couldn't care less about and I won't make that mistake again). But...after all of this...thank you for reading HumbleMud and I hope that you'll have a better year in 2025 than you had in 2024 and play more games while continuing to make awesome videos!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm going to check out some of these games you mentioned! I'm glad you were able to have a bunch of firsts, I'm sure beating BotW was a big accomplishment! I also got the PW Trilogy, I might try to get into that for the first time this year. Never got to play the original releases. And YES, I hope you loved the GameBoy Color Dragon Quest, that's my favorite version of the game (unless the HD-2D version coming out this year smokes it of course, we'll see).
My color theory for the elements are mainly based on my vision due to Yu-Gi-Oh, Bakugan and Avatar: Water is blue, Earth is brown or orange, Fire is red, Wind is green, Lightning is yellow, Ice is dark blue, Nature/Wood light or dark green, Metal is grey, Light is white and Darkness black or dark purple
I played some new games and stuff from the back log this year! In no particular order: Vampire Survivors Void Stranger Momodora III Afterimage Vernal Edge Revita Skul Returnal Cocoon Nobody Saves the World Eschatos ESP Ra De PSI Dark Souls 3 Ashen The Stanley Parable Dredge Balatro Had a blast this year to ge sure! Thanks for all the videos!
Thank you, and that's a ton of great games! I haven't played a lot of these other than Vampire Survivors. Going to check these out!
I love how personal this list seems
If you enjoyed Silent Hill 2 then try out Resident Evil 1 Remake. That game, and Dark Souls 1 were my top two favorite games that I played in 2024.
The one on the GameCube, that was remastered for the current gen consoles? I'll look into it. A lot of people tell me RE4 remake was really good too. The original RE4 was the only mainline one I've played all the way through.
@humblemudgames Exactly, the one on GameCube. I bought it on Steam, but it's available on the current gen consoles as well. That game is fantastic and I seriously recommend it if you want to try other horror classics.
@joseortizreflects I'll look into it for sure! I'm a little weary about the tank controls/fixed camera angles but hopefully I can get over that
In case anyone is curious, yes, the 3-month Xbox Game Pass Challenge I talk about in this video was originally supposed to become a video on this channel, but I had so much going on that I never got around to making it, and my subscription ran out before I had captured footage for everything. I planned to beat 12 games in those 3 months, so 4 per month, but life got busy, the channel got busy, I got distracted often, I'm sure you get it. And now it feels a little weird trying to talk about this challenge way after the fact, so I moved on. In case you were curious though, here were the games I beat as part of the challenge. Two of them are in my top 10! Inside✅ Dishonored✅ Amnesia: The Bunker✅ Ryse: Son of Rome✅ Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons✅ Psychonauts✅ Mirror's Edge✅ Gris✅ As for the games I didn't beat: Tales of Arise ❌ I got about 20 hours in but ran out of time. Got a physical copy so I can keep going! I'm about 30 hours in now. Warhammer: Boltgun ❌ This just wasn't doing it for me. I beat the first act of the game and got tired of it by the second. It's just not as good as the classic boomer shooters imo. Titanfall 2 ❌I started it, you can actually see footage of it in my "Channel Update" video. I have since gotten a physical PS4 copy so I can revisit it one day. Prey ❌ I didn't get to this one unfortunately, but found a PlayStation copy for cheap so I'll play it one day!
Finding 3 months randomly like that is crazy lucky and wonky lol
@Tamed_Delirium Lol I genuinely have no idea where it came from. It was in a box of my own stuff in a storage unit for years. But I've literally not had an Xbox since the 360 in high school, which I no longer have and haven't for a long time. And I didn't get an Xbox One until 2024. My fiance isn't really a gamer, and the two other people who I let share the storage unit with me don't have Xboxes. So I truly have no idea.
@@humblemudgames greatest mystery of the century lol
Great list!! Lots of amazing choices- we just got Astro Bot, so I'm excited to play that soon!
Thanks so much! I was really proud (and very nostalgic) looking back at all these games. I kept catching myself thinking, "Wow, 2024 was a good year for gaming for me!" Astro Bot is a delight, I think you'll have a blast!
Thanks for the Beyond Shadowgate shoutout 😁👍
Of course! It's a fantastic game!
my game of the year is definitely crow country, so good I beat it three times in a month
I keep hearing so much about it, glad to hear you liked it too!!
I played A LOT of Fire Emblem games in 2024, from awakening to three houses, with a little bit of Mystery of the Emblem sprinkled in, it has been a great journey ever since I started with FE 4, played through the GBA games and then the Ike saga. I also played some indie horror games like the two fear and hunger ones, I also finally came around to finishing up troubleshooters: abandoned children, which was a banger that I cannot wait to get a sequel to. I started but didn't finish pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of the sky, mostly because my boyfriend kept nudging me to do it, and a fanmade pokemon hackrom made by a very small and young team of developers called Pokemon Pathways. I also just finished Ender Lilies and can't wait to play more games like it, I think I'll play Hollow Knight next before Ender Magnolias gets a full release Finally, I need to thank you for pointing me to Eve of Calamity and Romancing SaGa romance of the seven, after I got the key to EoC from your give away I did barely nothing but play it incessantly for two weeks straight, and what a good time it was! I need to pick a chill turn based rpg from time to time to just unwind, which is also where Romancing SaGa got in after I had beaten the hardest run possible of EoC. I still want to go back to EoC to try and speedrun the ending where the calamity hasn't regained its powers. Thank you for giving me this opportunity, mud
Eve is such a fantastic game, I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I was the very first person upon the game's release to get the Fast Savior achievement, still proud of that. :) Part of what worked for me was trading certain exports to get the boat quickly. I also have ADORED Romancing SaGa so far, I just haven't had the time to commit to it. I've been more on an arcade/retro game kick lately. I played a fair bit of Fire Emblem The Blazing Blade on GBA this year! I should go back to it at some point. What's Pokemon Pathways about?
My highschool music teacher always said "better to leave them wanting more than wanting less..."
That's absolutely true! Definitely the case for Granblue.
You ever play any of the original Phantasy Star games on the Genesis? It's good stuff, would definitely recommend playing PS IV, since it's definitely the most accessible of the four original series games. PS IV is my favourite game, and the Golden Sun duo are my silver medal. Would recommend trying it out if you're big on JRPG's
Do you mean Phantasy Star on the Master System? If so, yes in fact I have! I played the Sega Ages port on the Switch in 2023. It gives you more XP, increases walking speed, and gives you a mini-map. Honestly it's one of the best RPGs I've ever played. Really ahead of its time and I'd say it was better than the first Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy! I really want to play the other 3 games too
Great list! I’m glad you got so much gaming in last year. I think your number one choice is probably the game that I would be most interested in playing. I’m really looking for a story That’ll suck me into a game. Keep up the great work man !
It's a GREAT story, I think you'd be impressed. The puzzles are pretty cryptic sometimes but they're all doable. Thank you!
for a second i thought you fully completed 80 games and I was stunned, beating 27 is much more reasonable! I beat around 34 last year and it was a heavy gaming year for me!
Haha no, I could never! 27 is actually my highest ever so far. I'm very much an ADHD gamer, I've always jumped around from game to game to game. Sometimes just getting the vibe for a few hours is enough for me, you know? In the past I'd be lucky to beat more than five games. I'm working on it though and gradually doing more and more (AND having fun doing it, which is the most important part!) 34 is definitely an accomplishment, wow!
No particular order but here are my ten Roboquest mario rpg mario wonder ratchet and clank rift apart balatro dredge + dlc vampire survivors castlevania dlc dungeon defenders rogue legacy and my number one is Nine sols. So much to say about all these games, but Nine sols stands above. The art, the music, the lore, the combat is all gorgeous. Its a pretty tough metroidvania, but it is THE metroidvania. Hollow knight has been my favorite like many others, but i think this might take it. It competes for the same level of quality in every way with hollow knight, but with a unique combat style. It draws from sekiro and Hollow knight very clearly, but man it has carved out its own spot amongst the greats. It got a lot of recognition, but its not enough, it deserves so much more (like your channel!) anyways, enjoyed the vid as always, i remember when i was like 18 i went on a retro game kick, i played Megaman 1, 2, and 3, and i played the original silent hill 2, I was blown away by all of them. especially SH2. It blew my mind that a game almost 20 years old was better and scarier than most modern games i was playing at the time. Great list, great insights, keep it up and see ya later!
Thanks so much for the kind words! So thankful I finally played the original Mega Man games. And I've watched a lot of the original SH2 now, but I want to also experience that one for myself sooner rather than later. I played Mario Wonder and Mario RPG pretty much back to back last year. Wonder is my favorite 2D Mario since World & SMB3, and Mario RPG was one of my all-time favorites. I had the original on a cartridge back in the day -- honestly? I think the remake might be better. I really like a lot of little decisions and additions that they made. One of my good friends plays a lot of Roboquest. Rogue Legacy was the first roguelike game I've ever played! It's a classic. Really want to try Dredge one day. Nine Sols sounds really interesting! I'm actually one of the like, 3 people who isn't a huge huge fan of Hollow Knight. I think I just have a hard time connecting with metroidvanias I guess, I'm not sure. I put about 8 hours into it and then fell off for whatever reason. But I know that's a me problem -- everyone else seems to love it! A metroidvania I really want to go back to is Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom. I was really really enjoying that one. And Metroid Dread, of course.
@humblemudgames i fully understand metroidvanias not clicking with you. Ive always wanted to get into stellaris or civ, its supposed to be like risk kinda but with upgrades! Sounds like my kinda thing, but every time i try rts games i just dont get it. But i look at reviews and people have like 4000 hrs in civ and wonder what im doing wrong lol. I know i could enjoy them but i just havent yet.
@daowdedoe2034 Yeah, I don't hate them, but I rarely beat them. I'm playing Arkham Asylum right now which I am really enjoying though, and it is technically a metroidvania. I also really want to finally try Symphony of the Night. Maybe things will change! Yeah, RTSes can be kind of tough. I don't have a ton of experience with them. I played Goblin Commander a lot back in the day on my GameCube, haha. But I'm no expert.
Definitely a strong list for sure (as someone who also loved Alien Isolation and believes the OG Silent Hill 2 to be a masterpiece). I would say Baldur’s Gate 3 is definitely my favorite game from 2024 but I’m looking forward to what comes out this year. Also glad you’re feeling better and I can’t wait for the next humblemud!! 🥳🥳
Thanks so much! I might get into BG3 -- I actually have it! I just know it's a game I'd need to set aside a lot of time for and I'm not sure if I'm ready haha 😅 Alien Isolation and Silent Hill 2 are probably my all-time favorite horror games so far. Just played and beat the original Until Dawn recently and enjoyed that one too.
I've never thought of it b4 but Pikachu would TOTALLY walk away from trick or treat with a load of candy 😂 Edit: oh snap, that's money 😮
Pikachu's not concerned with candy. Pikachu wants THAT BAG haha
I played some of my new favorites games this year, Moonring, Caves of Qud, Lunacid, Dread Delusion, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, 1000xRESIST, and Shadow Tower Abyss. Especially loved 1000xRESIST for having one of the best stories I've experienced and Lunacid for being so skillfully made. I also played Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Paper Mario 64 this year, which are both good games... but Zelda was too big and pretty watered down, and Paper Mario didn't really have any charming characters I felt attached to.
I've not heard of many of these! Lots for me to check out. Dragons Dogma is a classic. I actually revisited Ocarina of Time via the 3DS and Link to the Past around the same time I first played Breath of the Wild. I think OOT is still my favorite, but it's fascinating how strong all these games are for different reasons. They have a lot in common but a lot of differences too (even between OoT and LttP). Yeah, honestly my favorite Paper Mario game is Super Paper Mario. It has a lot of gameplay differences but it's got the best story in my opinion!!
My kids absolutely love Astrobot. It's one of the games they've played that I feel they will definitely have strong nostalgia for in the future.
That's lovely. I wonder what the speedrunning of Astro Bot is and will become, if anything. That game seems like it'd have high replayability to me.
The OG MegaMan gales are really fun, 2 is my favorite as well. Glad you enjoyed them as well, it's not easy to get into them if you have no prior experience with them! Maybe the rewind feature helps with that? By removing some of the friction new players will encounter. 11:31 Loved Alien Isolation when I first played it. I remember reading that to make the xenomorph smart they gave it two brains: one that seeks you and one that always knows where you are and gives hints to the other brain. It's a fun game but I remember being so tense playing it haha Helldivers 2 really is something special, I've pretty much stopped playing online games but it's such a good time with friends. I really need to play the new Silent Hill 2, at least before they release the movie. I haven't played that many games this year but I have such a great time with Balatro, I always play it when I travel. The new Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake is also a blast and I've been enjoying playing retro games with friends a lot more, you can just start a game and instantly play - it's great. I really need to get back into Death Stranding though.I started playing it but I put it down at some point and still haven't gotten back in. Maybe because it feels more like I'm watching a series that uses the controller as part of its storytelling?
I think retro collections that DON'T include rewinds or save states are shooting themselves in the foot nowadays. It absolutely helps modern gamers get into them easier. Yes, you run the risk of overusing rewind, but when you've got a busy life you just can't spend that much time trying to learn every little thing about the challenges presented to you. I actually found it to be a really efficient way for me to learn boss patterns and such and use it less and less with each playthrough! I've heard the Castlevania collections have features like this too. Alien Isolation was SO good! I remember the first time it got me in an area I thought I was safe and being so shocked, haha. The Synthetics don't get enough love -- they were also very scary imo. Helldivers 2 is the only online game I played this year so I'm in the same boat there. Fantastic. And yeah, I'd highly recommend the remake! It's not as fast paced as the original. The puzzles and dungeons are several times larger than what they were in the original. That might turn you away a little bit, but the detail and exploration of the town is amazing! I've heard so much good about Balatro, I just don't play a lot of card games so I'm not sure if it's for me. Dragon Quest is one of my favorites, definitely need to pick up the remake one day. I haven't played Death Stranding myself but it's one of my good friend's favorite games! Definitely seems inventive in the way that they use the controller from a gameplay perspective.
I was having a rough morning and then this popped up on my notifications feed ayooo let’s go lads
Aw I hope the rest of your day gets better! Glad I was able to help
This was a pretty awesome and diverse list! I enjoyed all the different vibes you explored. I am a huge fan of Digimon and seeing you mention Survive made me very happy haha I love that game's story quite a bit too. Also, Psychonauts is in my personal top 5 3D platformersof all time haha Can't wait to see what other games you talk about in the future!
Thank you! I totally get why Survive is divisive, but I really really liked it! I've never felt so bad for Terriermon 😭 Psychonauts really blew me away, it absolutely holds up. I have zero nostalgia for it yet fell in love.
@@humblemudgames It's actually Lopmon and not Terriermon, but they do look super similar! haha and yea I'm in the same boat as you with Psychonauts. I played it as an adult and loved it to my core
@Trouzrschnauzer I looked it up and got them mixed up, but I was even thinking "Terriermon does NOT sound right", haha.
1. Blood West (+DLC) 2. Slice & Dice 3. Fallen Aces (Early Access) 4. Crow Country 5. Castlevania Bloodlines 6. Selaco (early access) 7. Halls of Torment (thanks to your channel) 8. Minishoot Adventures 9. The Last Spell 10. Balatro Great year for indies.
You always recommend such good games yourself, so I'll be sure to dig into this list! Glad you found Halls of Torment! I had to include footage of it in this video because I still really love that game too. It was just so hard to rank games from the 80s to today. I mean, Mega Man 2 alone is probably one of the greatest games of all-time. I had so much fun and got so nostalgic making this list though. Thanks for watching!
@ I also did a playthrough of Dishonored! I played it back in 2012. It was actually a time in my life where I quit playing games and it brought me back in a big way. I played the whole thing on my Steam deck. So glad you tried this one out this year. One of my all time favorites in terms of world building
@VinylMorpheus I can see how that one would resurrect your love for games. It's seriously SO good, and going back to get footage I was thinking, wow this is still one of the best looking games I played all year! It has a really good balance between realism and stylization that I think will ensure it holds up graphically for a long, long time. The world-building is so fantastic -- when you finally get into the city at night and it's raining... man. it's so good.
@ I completely agree. I’d take a stylized artstyle over photorealistic look for most games. It gives you this more exaggerated look that feels like an oil painting or something. Also the game went so unnecessarily hard on the voice cast haha they’re all so good. It’s a weirdly cozy game to me. Dunwall is undoubtedly nightmare fuel but I just love being in that world. Where you have like Nikola Tesla looking tech but also weird Lovecraftian whale monsters and also supernatural DemiGod entities that all somehow make sense in the same world. Definitely check out Prey (2017) in the future. If you haven’t already. Another game by mostly the same developer team before Arkane leadership sort of left the company. It’s not Dishonored level for me but it’s pretty darn good too. I’d really be interested to hear what you think of that one. Some day. I know you probably have tons of other games you’d want to play.
@@VinylMorpheus It was hard to catch because it only shows for as second in this video, but I actually downloaded Prey as part of my 3 month Game Pass challenge! I unfortunately didn't get to it - of the 12 games I downloaded as my goal, I finished 8 of them, ended up dropping one halfway through because it just wasn't doing it for me (Warhammer Boltgun), and finished about half of Tales of Arise. But I never got to Titanfall 2 or Prey. BUT, I have physical copies of the PS4 versions of those now. I got Prey because I learned about the Arkane connection you were mentioning. I did also purchase Tales of Arise as well so I can continue that on my Xbox. :)
I considered sharing my own top 10, but out of the 15-ish non-demo games I played this year, I'm not sure if I can pick out which 10 I enjoyed the most, much less order them internally. I love most of them for very different reasons, and they're mostly in very different genres. I'll just put all the ones I enjoyed in the order I played them at the end of my comment. 9:36 The "bump combat" feels very much like it built on how the Ultima series handled thing back in the day (the 80's). The combat literally just involved walking into the enemy and letting the numbers do the rest. 10:44 I wish I could play Alien Isolation. I've owned the game since it released, but my brain just... can't deal with it. Which sucks, since I love the classic Alien movies. I did play through the introductory section once and got into the elevator while the game did its best to get my anxiety spiking, and then I never touched it again. Rebel Transmute Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker (patch story) Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail (main story) Kitsune Tails Dustborn Depression Quest Dungeons of Infinity The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom Slay the Princess Whispering Willows Night Cascades The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood Metal Slug Tactics Balatro Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind
I'm partially grateful I was sick and late on the release of this video, because it gave me a lot of time to consider where to place what. And even once I thought I was done, I realized I forgot Naruto Rise of a Ninja, beating Ys Chronicles II knocked it up a few pegs, and CODE Bunny made me rethink some things too. It was tough, and I'm sure even week to week these rankings would likely change. Truth is, every game shown in this video (even for the b-roll in the beginning) I love. I'm sure most RPGs owe something to the classics like Ultima. It's like how you can draw every FPS back to something like Wolfenstein, I guess. Even Elder Scrolls, like Daggerfall and Morrowind you "swing" at an opponent, sure, but there are dice rolls going on in the background that actually determine if you hit. Any time you bump an enemy in Ys, you WILL either do damage or take damage from what I can tell. The main determining factor is you want to hit them from the side or the back. And once your stats get stronger, you basically battering-ram the enemy into oblivion. It's very good at giving you a sense of progression that way. I've heard so many good things about the newer Final Fantasies, more and more positive words around the community over time. It's nice to see. I still need to explore mainline FF in general so it may be a while before I try the new ones, but I'm glad they're still doing well. Slay the Princess is on my watchlist, and I intend to try Power Rangers one day too.
I just realized I never responded to your piece about Alien! Yeah, I don't know what it is with me and why I can do it, man... I think a big contributor honestly is besides loving horror movies, I was kind of trained to deal with the anxiety in these types of games. I have a very distinct memory of the time when Slender Man The Eight Pages came out and how that game became a bit of a phenomenon. I had a pretty good speaker system at my home back then and my friends would have me play the game with that and with all the lights off. They'd huddle around me and my monitor and watch me play. They said they always made me do it because my reactions were the best, but I learned THIS YEAR actually (over a decade later), that they had me do it because most of them would get too scared to do it on their own. But playing that game so much conditioned me to be pretty calm for the most part. I screamed exactly one time in Silent Hill 2 Remake and a few times in Alien Isolation lol. But that's because my trigger is hearing something run up behind me and getting the jump on me. Obviously the Alien is *very* good at that, and a mannequin really caught me off-guard in one of the late game levels of SH2R, haha. I found Fatal Frame Maiden of Black Water on Wii U and Silent Hill Shattered Memories on the Wii kind of scary at times specifically because the extra sound coming out of your controller really adds to the immersion.
Wind blows leaves on a tree leaves are green that’s the best I got now to watch the video and learn that wind is just a metaphor for late stage capitalism
I accociate air with pink
Guile's Sonic Boom in Street Fighter is green in SF6 and there's Midori from Divine Gate too
I didn't know his Sonic Boom was green in the newest one! The word 'midori' itself actually means 'green'. Fun fact.
Player since Pokemon Blue. You did a great job capturing why the early gen games stick with you after so many years 👏
Thanks so much!!
Nah he didn't just break out unwavering emotion.
It's a fantastic song, I had to
I support every Video that supports my favourite Game of all time!
Ah, thanks! Spoiler alert, I have a top 10 games I played in 2034 video coming out this week and Golden Sun may make an appearance there too! 😉
This is a good video, but I am still going have to do my own research asking why Fujin is green.
I'll likely do a follow up video on this. the video I made prior to this Green Wind video had 300 views at the time I released this one, so as you could imagine I had no idea it would blow up the way that it did. just making and editing this alone took a lot of time and I didn't think anyone would care so I stopped there. but I'll revisit the topic here soon
@@humblemudgames good to hear!
13:33 talking about people that would go over your head as a kid, but think totally differently as an adult while showing that scene.... i see what you did there. Also Golden Sun is great, but it really needs some 2024 polish. The framework still stands the test of time, we just need someone to take that formula and apply all the things we've learned about game design since then. Then way more people would love it.
Thanks for mentioning that, I was hoping someone would bring that part up! And yeah, I totally agree. A modern updated version with some QoL features would go a long long way. Many of my favorite games ever would benefit from that too, so it's not necessarily a bad thing
9:49 that's sirfetch'd
I'm aware, Farfetch'd is my favorite Pokémon. I just put in Sirfetch'd because he's a little more green, haha. You're the very first person to point this out after almost 100k views. Maybe you're the only one who noticed I snuck in that graphic, lol.
6:25 that GBC card game was rad 😎
indeed!
the mega man representation makes me SO HAPPY 👏🏽
I went on a big Mega Man kick in 2024. I grew up with Legends and Battle Network but never played the OGs. I got the Legacy Collection for a nice deal and ended up beating 1, 2, 3, and a good bit of 4 in the fall of last year! I had to include my Blue Bomber.
@@humblemudgames freaking awesome!!
