Well made video and this is why emulation is the answer to preserving the older games. I loved my 360 but I won't pretend that the system was reliable. Very good video and worth the watch
Thank you so much, you nailed it on the head. This was exactly what I was trying to get across -- Rise of a Ninja and The Broken Bond are REALLY cool, special games that are different from all the other Naruto games. It's just by chance that I even found out about them -- imagine all the other people who are never going to get to play these. It's just sad, but that's why I'm glad we have the Xenia team!
Yeah, I picked up a PS3 Slim recently and you have to softmod it to even be able to get it to play PS2 games. And depending on when the PS3 was made, some of them aren't moddable. In my "Secondhand Nostalgia" video I do show off a few PS2 games -- all of those are running on my PS3 slim 😉
They put sooo much into these early games. Its been a while since I played but the last few Ninja Storm games I played were pretty much the same. They stopped caring about the world of naruto and just focused on the big anime fights
I’ve had an Xbox 360 since 2017. I got it on Black Friday from GameStop for $60. Not gonna lie those Naruto games look pretty cool. I don’t know anything about Naruto, but I’m interested just the same.
Honestly I still don't know a lot about Naruto, but the cool thing about this game is it takes place during the first two seasons of the anime, so you get properly introduced in-game. Combat is challenging but doable. The exploration is the real magic of this game! I can't stress enough how well the graphics of this game aged. Genuinely one of the best looking games on the system. They say its sequel, Broken Bond, is even better!
Saying it's like lost paradise would be implying it's like yakuza, and honestly, a game like yakuza with 3d platforming collectathon mechanics sounds like maybe the best thing ever created
at first glance it reminded me of Yakuza/lost paradise. just the third person perspective and running around amongst all these buildings and such. but it's not quite the same as Yakuza. it's still really fun though!
Yeah the Xbox are notorious for their failure at backwards compatibility. It just got worse after the 360, I still remember one of the studio execs catching heat for his comments when asked about what players should do if they live areas that don’t allow for internet access. At the time of Xbox One original announcement it was going to require 24hr online access. His remark was “just by a 360”.
I honestly don't think they ever truly understood quite why the 360 was such a special console and succeeded. I've never seen a company produce such a stellar console and then fall off so quickly and self-sabotage. Yeah, the Wii U was a failure sales-wise compared to the Wii, but it still had (and has) a lot of cool games and features going for it. Though I DO have an Xbox One and have enjoyed certain aspects, it's literally just because I don't want to deal with a 360 potentially red ringing on me. It doesn't have an identity like the 360 so clearly had. It's just a way for me to play old 360/og Xbox games and a way to play certain games for cheaper than I could have on PS4.
I played this game as a kid and came back to it recently on xenia. It was funny hearing you describe the exact same troubleshooting process I went through. I only ended up playing through 2/3 of the chunin exams before getting caught up with ff16 when it came out on pc and metaphor after I finished that. I didn't know that it had a sequel. Maybe I'll go back and finish it so I can play Broken Bond. It's really cool getting to run around the leaf village and the way they designed it for platforming is really natural and fun to explore. The combat is a little clunky compared to the fighting games I'm used to playing. It hurt my pride a little to lose to Sakura about 10 times but hearing you had the same experience made me feel justified. The story for this game is very strange though. It follows the same general events of the anime/manga but there's a lot weird changes so they can have you fight more. It's almost uncanny seeing the cutscenes ripped straight from the anime I saw 100 times as a kid lead into a fight with a copy pasted bandit. Since playing the game have you watched any of the anime? I started playing the game because I was feeling nostalgic for the series in general and after seeing how much it changed the story I decided to just rewatch at least the start of the show and it's been fun. I absolutely love the music in the series, and while the animation quality isn't exactly consistent there are some fights that really stand out as exceptional. It's also been quite funny that whenever I get to a scene that gets used in flashbacks multiple times(something like the "scaredy cat" line), I get flashbacks to having to watch it over and over. Anyway i love this series and this game is super nostalgic for me, so I was excited to see a video about it recommended after watching another one of your videos. Thank you for covering it! If you ended up playing Broken Bond I would love to hear if you thought it was better or if you're planning on making a video about it as well.
Thank you so much for this comment, I loved reading it! The troubleshooting for this game was quite a trip, huh? The copy-paste bandit fights are annoying, and tbh I enjoy the exploration over the combat in general. I haven't gone back to the anime yet, I'm watching Yu Yu Hakusho currently -- but I have been playing games like Jump Ultimate Stars on the DS, which features him & his friends (and YYH, too)!
It really is a shame that these games are probably never gonna get an official re-release because as much as I like the Storm Games, They're far from being the perfect end all be all for Naruto video games. Their "Open World" stuff is extremely boring to play through because it's just walking in straight lines and pressing A, which is a bit of a bummer when it's like 80% of the story experience.
Exactly! Someone gets it. I recognize Rise of a Ninja isn't perfect either, but this game sets *the blueprint* for a perfect Naruto game on the exploration front. What was meant to be a casual dive into my first real Naruto game ended up spawning all these thoughts that ended up in the video. This game is just one example of most likely dozens of games that had potential but are locked to an older system and now many aren't aware of its existence as a consequence.
before naruto went to shit they explicitly said it was a bad idea to fight a samurai because they'd just cut yours hands off while you are trying to get your signs out, having to think about when you go into a jutsu is a great idea for a game.
they really nailed this feeling with this game in particular. It's a shame -- I wish it had been iterated upon further. I can't wait to play The Broken Bond.
Just buy an Xbox 360 Slim or E model. The RROD was eliminated on these models afaik and both run great here to this day. Besides the really bad wifi chip in the E model by design, they cheaped out and that thing is slow af. But otherwise works. Unfortunately it doesn't still run the first NXE.. which was the best dashboard imo with the 3D and everything and not flat crap that it is now.
@@humblemudgames i admit it i haven’t watched the entire video cause i am playing through rise of the ninja and i dont want to risk the chance to get spoiled lol. But emulators seem to be the only source for playing older games.
@@abdullahalsultan4652 I don't go past the first hour or two really in the video! but I just said that because I did end up having to use an emulator. it's still a shame that you can't play it on "legit" systems though. And successful emulation of it is a pretty recent thing

Sad to see games become relics, well done on the video bro!
There are a ton of gems a lot of people will never know about! Hopefully more people will find this game.
The lack of backwards compatibility on certain versions of the PS3 was one of the reasons I switched to pc gaming years ago.

It really feels that way to me. The fighting is awesome in those games, but I really love the exploration this one offers. Thanks for watching!

9:20 DAMN
boy didn't have to dismantle Naruto's psyche like that 😭😤
wel now I want to see you do a deep dive on music licensing in stuff like the classic EA games...
I actually have a video topic idea that would definitely include this. It's a huge topic though, so it'll take me a bit to make. But I'll do it! 🤝
The music in "Fight Night 04" is great. This game is better than subsequent games in the series also

If u have graphical issues when raging with naruto, try pressing F5 on your keyboard.
Thanks so much, I will for sure try that. I looked all over online and couldn't seem to find anything about that issue
This game looks so sick 😍 It's a shame we can't get a re-release.
An HD remaster of this with Broken Bond would be sooooo awesome.
That will never happen, Ubisoft will never ever do something good again for us players xD

That dashboard was absolutely iconic. Thank you for this advice! Sounds like the Slim is the way to go.
How did you unlocked your fps to 60 in free roaming? I have only 30 fps cap
Around 19:50 in the video, I show the stuff I changed in the config files to make it work for me
that is what emulators are for.

d3d12_allow_variable_refresh_rate_and_tearing = false
it did solve it! just took me a sec to figure it out!
