Speaking of, Skull Man’s level is such a good part to Megaman Maker. All those bones, the robo-t-rex, skeleton joes all make such a good and relatively unique level theme that pretty few Masters touch on. For every dozen lava fire explosion levels, there’s only one spooky bone bot
To this day I still have fond memories of World of Warcraft Vanilla's Duskwood, Tirisfal Glades & the Plaguelands. That's even without the Halloween festivities going on. I haven't played in years at this point, but every fall the game likes to pull on my nostalgia to tempt me back, maybe next year.
That was a brilliant video idea and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. That Skullman staredown is a thing I had no idea existed. Great video!! Edit: Oh and Happy Halloween!
So it’s less of a moment and more just a general event but in Jak and Daxter if you swim out far enough into the ocean a Lurker Shark will appear with an extremely unnerving theme sound. They can also close the distance on you insanely fast. Once you leave their aggro range they return into the shadows of the depths which was almost more unnerving. The lurker Shark just haunted my childhood haha
@ Predators with sharp teeth just beneath the surface of the water in games have been a phobia of mine since Star Wars Dark Forces honestly haha my god those things in the sewer!
when i was a kid i played Splashdown, a jet ski game on the OG xbox, and if you drove out of bounds a giant kraken tentacle would come up and slap you back into the play area, that always made me think there was more to it and some story lore on how a kraken existed in that world
Abyssal Woods in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. Which feels almost kind of like it shouldn't count as its not like the game is lacking in close-to-horror vibes for its entire runthrough, pushing the line even more so with the DLC. But that one level sees them stepping all the way over the line and it was really fun to play through for Halloween.
Great video, dude!! Love that Skull Man got some love- he's one of my favorite OG Mega Man baddies! I think I mentioned already on Bluesky, but im a sucker for Mad Monster Mansion in Banjo Kazooie 😁
Ori and the blind forest has that haunted forest section that fits the vibe. The level changes behind you, fog everywhere, it becomes a maze, you cant tell if that silhouette is an enemy curled up or just part of the environment. Also its not particularly halloween vibes but the rat nest, rat dens, whatever theyre called, in the portal games always freaked me out. just some guy lost in this dystopian future, trapped in this endless place run by glados, leaving his schizo messages behind. And for a more recent game Nine sols has kind of a spooky vibe the whole time to me, but the prime time spooky is everything dealing with lady ethereal. Omg that was the peak of the horrors of the dreamscape tech in that game. And the town with fuxi and nuwa is really haunting. Really refreshing to see some games i didnt know about, everyone goes for the arkham asylum scarecrow bit, or like the majoras mask moon. Great video!!
Thank you! yeah I tried to cover stuff that wasn't as well-known, like the examples you gave or Lavender Town in Pokémon. I need to revisit the Ori games. I only played a little bit of The Blind Forest
Ravenholm is probably way too obvious, so I’ll refrain. Instead: the Lich Yard in Shovel Knight is a pretty cool level, especially looking back with the added context from Specter of Torment. Thanks for the spoiler warning by the way. I do really want to play both those games when I get the chance.
just replayed through batman arkham asylum, and i think it qualifies as a halloween game! lots of dark, gothic architecture, lots of cobwebs and most of the batman villains are practically halloween monsters, it fit pretty well! during the scarecrow sections you also fight straight up skeletons and bust them into pieces. and during the super mario wonder segment... i noticed you keeping the enemy dancing in sync with the music even with editing cuts. very noice.
Dude the pacifist run of undertale freaked me out so much. I was locked in for like 6 hours straight so it was late at night when i entered that section (that i won't mention to avoid spoilers) and had the goosebumps for forever. Pokemon also freakes me out irrationally sometimes idk why i guess pixels are scary to me 😅. Anyway love to see your humor popping off on this one man this was a passioned vid i can tell
@humblemudgames not really it's knowledge based maybe but I thought it was kinda the easiest. The problem is that it opens the lore up and there's some shitty things going on there i can tell you that much ahah
Welp, don't know if this counts, but the fridge in control really stood out to me. It is a mission, a tone darker than the rest of the game, with some genuine horror elements. A bit older example would be Ravenholm, but I barely remember playing half life 2 with how long ago it was, to the point I had to google the name of the level. Still, it stuck out to me this long, so.

I just heard about MM Maker recently, it seems so cool!!
Lavender Town in Pokemon Red…. 🪦😬
100%. I sometimes turned off the sound because it was so scary when i was little.
Yeah, this one is a classic! I just didn't cover it since I figured it was already so well known

Thank you so much man, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! This one may have been the most fun one to put together so far
Great video! Glad you can understand my childhood nightmares of Mega Man 4 XD
Even in 2024 I remember being a little shocked with the skies turned red!

Yeah, honestly any game that does something like this gives me a good jump scare.

dang, you're putting out your videos quick in succession!
Trying!

Awesome episode. Ocarina of Time has some disturbing stuff but I am still to this day never ready for The Well. 😮
Ocarina and Majora definitely still to this day have a lot of scary moments
I was just going to say the Forest Temple in Ocarina of Time traumatized me as a child and is actually so creepy 😂

Thanks so much! The pacifist run is the more difficult one to pull off too, right? I can picture that getting intense

The first water level in Mario 64 scarred me man
Was it because of the eel? He was pretty unnerving!!

Great selections! I still need to get super Mario wonder
It's a truly fantastic game, my favorite 2D entry since Super Mario World
All fun and spooky picks!
Thank you!!
I assume Skull Man is a direct reference to the Ishinomori character with the same name.
I looked into it but wasn't able to confirm it anywhere.
The intro is loud af but great video nonetheless
