So glad that this channel is getting the recognition it deserves. just a dude talking about his passion for video games is awesome. looking forward to the years that come
I really appreciate that so much. It's been a real source of happiness for me and honestly just makes me love games even more. I hope to be here for the long haul.
I’m super glad that you’re in a good place, know what you’re doing with your channel, have a plan for it, and that it’s doing well for you. I am definitely eager to see where you go from here. I just wish that I was in the same boat. Unfortunately right now I’m feeling very unmotivated and uninspired and it comes down to the same reasons my channel always has peaks and valleys. I find that between my full-time job, and my family time with my wife and son I just don’t have the time to work on videos at a reasonable pace. Whether its scripting, filming, or editing, the process ends up taking so long that whatever I’m interested in doing at the time is either no longer relevant, I’m no longer interested in it (classic ADHD), or both. I end up not releasing anything for weeks, or sometimes 1-2 months, then end up feeling so bad I can’t force myself to work on anything until something comes along that I passionately hyper fixate on (again, thanks ADHD). I’ve tried so many things to alleviate this from hiring an editor to offload that leg of the work onto to trying shorter off the cuff, lower production videos, but none of it has really helped any of the core issues. I just wish there were more hours in the day and that I had more energy. I wish that I could put some of the hours from my job into my channel. But when I see other small creators in a good place and growing it fills me with joy. Joy for you, and hope that eventually I’ll be able to find the right balance for myself. Congratulations humble, I wish you many more years of continued growth and success! We do it for the love of creativity and the love of video games!
Thank you for the kind words and support. It's definitely not always easy -- with the Pokémon video especially I was really pushing it in terms of writing a script, capturing footage, and doing ALL of those edits (it's easily my most edited/complex edits I've ever done) from scratch within one week. I really was creatively drained for about 2 days afterwards and honestly didn't know what to do next until the Decline's Drops video and another video concept finally came about on the third day. I hope that you're able to find some sort of balance so that you have more energy for the things you enjoy doing -- maybe uploading once a month might be the goal for you to strive for? I've heard that TH-cam isn't like it used to be -- if you start uploading once a month it supposedly recognizes that and doesn't punish you for not uploading enough.
💚25:58 Honestly, I think I might merge my second channel back into my first after hearing this. I'm inconsistent, but always chasing my passion. Sadtiric IS AuDHD and it makes sense to be a variety channel, even if the algo hates that. Thanks for your input on that! 💚
I'm glad that was helpful! I just had to learn the hard way -- some of my favorite videos don't have a whole lot of views. I just simply asked myself, "does that mean this video sucked or that I'm no longer a fan of what I created?" and the answer was a resounding no. After that, I decided to put less stock into views and focus on what makes me happy for my long-term well-being.
So glad to be a patron of the Humble Lounge! Love your content and glad we've connected. I liked what I saw of Sandland and enjoyed what you said about getting videos out a little quicker. That's my issue.
Thank you so much for the kind words! You're always welcome in the lounge, man! Sand Land is so good, it's a very chill game in my opinion and it's been a really fun one to jump into for a bit before I go to bed. I intentionally stayed away from any story elements for the purposes of this video, but I was surprised to find those random encounters like the giant scorpion or the bigger dino! I didn't know those were even a thing until I started farming enemies like that, so I'm glad I went out of my way to do that! Once a week is about the best I can do, and I'm going to probably take a week break here soon since my birthday is coming up. No need to sacrifice mental health for videos. It benefits myself and the audience in the long run ✌️ Also I'm barely active on twitter anymore, so I may have missed some posts from you. I'm on Bluesky now, it seems a little less toxic and it's a social media site not run by Elon, so I'm happier lol.
Really great to hear some broader and more casual talk from you! Especially some topics outside of gaming too! Excited for the future, and I think a ko-fi would be a great idea!
I found your Pokemon video on my for you page and I'm glad I did! I love your vids. You have crazy deep knowledge of a lot of games, some great humor mixed in at times, and a positive take. Thanks for making them!
Thanks so much, and thank you for taking a chance on one of my less popular videos. I'm going to continue my best to give deep dives into whatever I find interesting and I hope you find it interesting too!
I don't keep up with every video, but when i do watch i HAVE to comment (and a lot). And ill say the same thing every time, i love your perspective on games and occasional life wisdoms. Not enough people view games as art, some games need to be felt out emotionally. Ive been in a relationship for a long ass time, so friends have taken a back seat. But one shot made me rethink all the times me and the bros had, and having to say goodbye to this digital cat tore me up. It made me realize a lot, and movies and television and books can do the same, but man nothing hits like feeling like YOU did something in a story. I would love to see more word vomit type videos, hanging out at a bar vibes like you said. Streaming would be awesome, i would love to chat live with you, but definitely dont force it. If you ever decide to stream, would you do twitch or just on youtube? wanna make sure i have notifications on lol this channel is the eve of calamity of channels lol , great job, gonna binge when i have a weekend, have a good day
The "Eve of Calamity" of TH-cam channels is such a great compliment, haha, thank you so much. I've never heard of OneShot but I've added it to my wishlist. I've likely experienced something similar to you -- I had a group of 3 other guys that I played with just about every afternoon from 2016 to 2021. We split up eventually -- not because of a major falling out or anything, it's just life got a hold of us all in different ways and we naturally sort of split. I was literally *this close* to getting rid of my gaming stuff because at the time I was convinced making music would be my "one thing". I even put my PS4 in storage. It's a story for another day, I plan to talk about the games in particular that saved me/brought me back to gaming, but I found a LOT of joy in a handful of single player games that reignited my love for gaming again. I came to my senses, pulled my PS4 out of storage, and ended up experiencing some of my favorite games of all time so far within the next 2 months on that system (Shenmue and Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise), and beat Mario Odyssey in a week -- I initially didn't see the magic in that game back in like 2020 when I got it. In 2023 I did, though. I'm glad you enjoyed the new Humble Lounge format, I'll definitely keep making these (though they won't all be this long), and when it comes to streaming, if I ever do it, I'll probably do it here on TH-cam, just because I understand this platform more. I feel like Twitch does one good thing and then 3 wrong things right after, lol. But I heard the chat is better in Twitch. Idk. But for now it's not even on my radar, to be 100% honest with you. Maybe one day.
@@tarttooth6022 aw that really sucks, I'm sorry :/ if it makes you feel better, they have done a very similar live show their whole careers (lots of crowd involvement, for example). I know it's not the same, but there is a lot of good footage of them playing live. I'd recommend anything after 2016 to get an idea of how they are now, since Dave is back in the band and all
Some stream of thought commentary as I'm watching (or listening to) the video... (Oh, crap, it became a long'un.) To start, the Sand Land footage reminds me that I really adored the anime and should take a closer look at the game to see if it's something I would enjoy. 7:46 I wouldn't say I've "moved on" from Mario, but generally I just prefer adventure (action or otherwise) games over pure platformer games, so that gives Zelda and Metroid an edge. Metroid having a female protagonist and Zelda actually focusing more on the titular princess also helps, since that's a huge draw for me. (That said, there are a lot of Mario games I want to catch up on, including _Princess Peach: Showtime!_ and _Super Mario Bros. Wonder._ 10:34 Just downloaded the Romancing SaGa 2 demo to see what I think of it. (And I, for one, am glad that you'd rather focus on that than the Space Marine or ReFantazio.) 11:04 Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is just looking like a gorgeous game with nice-looking turn-based combat and a seemingly well-told story. I'm really looking forward to getting more information there, because it could very well fill the hole left behind by Square Enix/Final Fantasy straying into different territories than the 1994-2003 era that really appealed to me. On the _music_ side of things, I'm absolutely out of touch. I listen to a lot of soundtrack music, but I don't even keep track of if my old pop music favorites have released anything in the last decade or so. 17:57 I drink almost exclusively homemade cola from the Finnish "MySoda" brand. Tastes good, is available sugar free, is convenient due to bulk purchases, is relatively "locally" produced since I live in Sweden, and lets me distance myself from stuff like the dirty dealings of the Coca-Cola Company and Sodastream's participation in genocide. As for Dr. Pepper: I like cherry flavor (including cherry coke), but I've tried Dr. Pepper twice so far and have _not_ enjoyed the taste. 26:32 I spent like 15+ years barely finishing (or sometimes barely even playing) any games because I kept getting distracted by something new (or something familiar and grindy). Just in the last 3 years or so, I've made a conscious effort to focus on a single game until I either _finish it_ or _actively decide I don't want to play it anymore,_ and then I log those in a thread on Mastodon (previously on Twitter). I just don't want to keep accidentally falling away from a game because I saw something shiny; I want to actively choose what I do. 36:55 Ah, green and purple. Them classic Green Goblin, Mysterio and Piccolo colors. 😛 37:14 Good to know you have notes about footage and music sources. Good for both the viewers and the artists behind what's being featured. No idea how doable it is with your software and production pipeline, but displaying that information in the upper corners of the video. 40:25 I'd forgotten Sonic Adventure had that weirdness where you could pick up unexpected objects/NPCs... 42:04 Personally I voted for Grandia simply because it's a game that's been on my radar for a long time but I haven't actually played it myself. Golden Sun is a great choice I have an amount of nostalgia for, though, so it's nice to see someone enjoying it for the first time.
Thank you for all of this! I’ll try to respond to each piece. Yeah, I wasn’t aware there was an anime until recently, but I used to read the manga all the time in the weekly Shonen Jump mags back in the day. The game itself is such a treat for my eyes after not really seeing anything Sand Land for almost two decades. I think they nailed the characterizations from what I’ve seen thus far, and I enjoy the variety of gameplay - tank combat, on-foot combat, JRPG-esque exploration and talking to NPCs, and there are Metal Gear Solid-lite stealth sections too. As you may have seen in the video, the frame rate dipped here and there in combat - I’ll tell you, that’s the first time I noticed it, and I wonder if that happened because I was also capturing footage. I didn’t notice lag previously. To be honest, the little dips I experienced when filming weren’t a big deal to me anyway. The music also has this incredibly ethereal, arresting quality to it that I’d have never expected for a game like this - you’ll see what I mean if you get it and go to the Demon Village, one of the very first places you’ll go in the game. The music is quiet and meditative most of the time. Really my only complaint so far is the characters repeat certain lines over and over in the overworld, but I’ve learned to deal with it. I don’t blame anyone for preferring Zelda/Metroid! They’re phenomenal series that I love too! I just meant that I think a lot of people tend to forget just how good Mario games are. Super Mario Bros. Wonder was probably my favorite 2D Mario since Super Mario World. Honestly. I hope you enjoy RS2! I cracked open the full game last night actually and I’m so happy to finally be playing it. I love it. Clair Obscur is going to be a 10/10, I think. Very excited. I have ebbs and flows with music, sometimes I’m on top of the latest and greatest, sometimes I just seek out comfort artists and bands. I think that's understandable. I’d love to try MySoda one day. I bet I’d enjoy it! I didn’t really explain it in this video, I figured it would be better suited for another one - but ever since I’ve started this channel, I’ve beaten way more games than ever before. Like you, I also would have been lucky to beat 2 or 3 games per year for the last 10+ years, but when I rediscovered single player games again, I think in 2022, I beat maybe 5 or 6? In preparation for making the channel in 2023, I beat 15, and this year I’ve beaten 20 (hopefully on-track for like 25ish by the end of the year, we’ll see). So I’ve gotten much more disciplined. With that said, I still embrace my ADHD habits - There was one week close to the beginning of this year where I played TurboGrafx-16 games exclusively because I just suddenly hyperfixated on that console. I didn’t beat any of them, just played a couple of hours of many different games. There are a LOT of games I’ve got like 2-3 hours clocked into. I’ve learned to be okay with that. Yeah, purple and green contrast really well (that’s why we also have Luigi and Waluigi, for example) and purple’s my favorite color, so it felt natural. Green is also really calming, which I think fits the vibe of the lounge. Honestly those 3 characters you mentioned are some of my favorites lol. I have considered putting the game names at the top! I don’t know about music, just because I switch between songs often and sometimes switch songs right as I switch to footage of a new game, so I just don’t want to put TOO much text on-screen. But the game names definitely would probably be appreciated by people. Sonic Adventure is such a weird game lol but I’m loving it. I didn’t say it in this video, but all of the games I showed in this video, I was experiencing for the first time. To keep with the vibe of, ‘I bounce around between games a lot’. Lol. I’ve had Sonic Adventure in footage before but I only played the first level. Now I’m doing a real playthrough. At least Sonic’s part. But yeah, Motorstorm, Titanfall 2, etc I played for the first time for this video. I’d love to try Grandia too. There are a lot of games from that era I need to try - I’m playing Final Fantasy IX as my first mainline Final Fantasy, but I obviously need to try VII. And then there’s Xenogears, Wild Arms, Grandia, Breath of Fire IV, Brave Fencer Musashi, Suikoden, just to name a few…
So glad that this channel is getting the recognition it deserves. just a dude talking about his passion for video games is awesome. looking forward to the years that come

And then there’s Xenogears, Wild Arms, Grandia, Breath of Fire IV, Brave Fencer Musashi, Suikoden, just to name a few…

Witty, yet grateful response!
@@humblemudgames Posted before actually watching the video, lol. Figured I'd show my support by helping with Algorithm-kun.
Regarding Quest 64 leveling, Final Fantasy 2 did that on the famicom if you're looking for more games with that
Oh cool, yeah admittedly I'm just now getting into mainline Final Fantasy, so I'll have to look into that!
