    Hey, that's my steam review! Very cool to see it show up in your video haha. Thanks for the introduction to Eve of Calamity -- I had a bunch of fun with it.
    I'm quite excited for the Romancing SaGa 2 remake. RS2 is easily my favorite of the Romancing sub-series (and maybe even my favorite SNES JRPG) just for how unique the focus on the kingdom over individual characters is even to this day. The original had some extraordinarily frustrating aspects, though, so it's not something I generally recommend. The remake looks like it's going to make the game so much more accessible and avoid some of the frankly bad design points. Can't wait!

      Haha glad to see you back here! Yeah, I think this will be the best version of the game for most people based on how the demo went for me -- I went from being quite frustrated with the Vita version to blasting through this. The fact that OG players have so much choice in regards to which options to turn off and on means to me that Square really thought about both the vets and newcomers, and that's very promising.

    Ayyyy my comment is in the vid! I cannot express just how excited for this I am. While I prefer 3, I have played through 2 numerous times, and I think this will make new players and myself happy. I preordered the collectors edition from Japan months ago.
    I’ll be playing hard, original soundtrack, and turning off all the features just so it’s as close to my original experience as possible. I have fully typed up notes from my strongest playthrough and will be utilizing it for this game.
    I’ll be curious to know if a lot of thing such as sparking (it was called that and not glimmering during the early RS3 translation days), stat ups and events still use the same numbering system. So for instance an enemy will have numbers assigned, say 12 for sparking, 7 for stat ups. If you’re trying to learn a skill that has a sparking difficulty of 6 and you’re fighting the enemy with a 12, you have a greater chance of sparking that new ability.
    Events had points assigned too, and this dictated generation jumps. This is how you could manipulate future events. You’d skip some events in one generation and do it another so that the points were used in that next generation. Battle amount also contributed to that and could dictate generation jumps. I’m only missing like two achievements on the Xbox version, the no final emperor run. This requires never making it to the emperor or empress you chose in the beginning, and instead one of the different classes (or even a special robot). Christ I love this game.

    That glimmering mechanic is really cool! Acquiring new techniques to use in the middle of a battle is a cool shakeup that's always fun to see! I also love when all the optional accessibility options, hopefully veterans find it a good balance between approachable and upholding the difficulty of the original.
    I also LOVE when remakes and remasters like this allow for the original soundtrack alongside redone ones. I feel like some charm is lost when an orchestral midi soundtrack moves towards organic sounding instruments. It changes it from "this is RPG music" into "this is now just regular orchestral music". Something about those old midi strings and horns...

      @@humblemudgamesI'm not a hundred percent sure, but starting Nomad it took me a little while to realize I couldn't solo literally anything and the only way to hire people was outside the starting town because there was no pub... There's one little tutorial kid in each town that helps with that giving a lot of useful info, as I found out. It's EXTREMELY nonlinear about it tho, and I'm still early on ^^` Id say it's not as user-unfriendly as the original RS2 was though, like this it's a good update that helps streamline it a bit, though it's dated visually by today's standards

    I've really loved the experimental nature of the games and even enjoyed FF2 a lot back then, but have never finished a saga game until this year despite playing romancing saga 2/3 and even the saga 2/3 remakes on ds, but since the remake announcement came out i've been blasting through them and can confidently say that yes, romancing saga 2 is still the one I liked most because of the generational mechanic with the inheritance system and I can't wait for the game to come out, preordered it a while back and just waiting to pick it up haha
    But like you mentioned, I'm not necessarily a veteran, I just want to disable most of the new visuals so that I can be like "Where the F*&# do I go?", that or I find my way around better because I still remember where almost all the things are now XD

    • @humblemudgames
      @humblemudgames  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah! The customization of options this game has is INCREDIBLE. You can turn off all the waypoints like you said, but still choose to keep QoL features like the light bulb/glimmer icon on if you want, for example. ALL games should be like this. I'll always support and highlight options like these or accessibility options because they're so important & show that the devs are thinking of a diverse range of potential audiences.

    Small correction:
    It's made by the team which made the "Trials of Mana" Remake, not "Visions of Mana".
    And yeah, I'm super happy about the artstyle.
    "Square Enix" released so many boring looking games lately, so I'm glad this also doesn't have the realistic look.
    This also seems to be the first "SaGa" game which straight up tells you that enemies get stronger tho more fights you win
    I'm super excited for this game, simply because of the unique approach this series takes when it comes to combat.
    Like, a fallen char is completely normal but never the end of the world.
    Compare the damage you take from the first enemies in a "SaGa" game to first enemies in a later "Final Fantasy".
    The only thing I don't like is how each char acts as soon as you give them a command.
    Even in the original "Romancing SaGa 2", you've had to give orders to your whole party and watch the chaos play out, with random team attacks an other unpredictable stuff.
    Kinda feld like a management game, where you give orders but have to rely on the capabilities of your team.
    But here, you just give the order when to do a team attack.

    • @humblemudgames
      @humblemudgames  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ah! Oops!! I swear I had heard it was from the Visions team but maybe I got that mixed up/misheard.
      I can definitely see how the pre-planning element being taken out is a downer. It was probably done for accessibility, but it would be nice if that was an optional gameplay element you could toggle on.

    • @keen7youtubeistoast796
      @keen7youtubeistoast796 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@humblemudgames The thing is, I normally prefer it the way of this remake when it comes to other games, cause you have a bit more control over how things play out.
      But for these games, it just works so well, cause in some titles, like "Saga Emerald Beyond", you give everyone a command and the chars rush into action after giving them the "ok", and the rest is you praying and biting your nails in the hopes that everything works out.
      Again, like a management game, and it's super exciting when stuff just works in your favor.

    1:32 Oh. Character/gender selection? That's a pretty key feature for me.
    Romancing SaGa, like many other classic JRPGs, has sounded interesting when described by others, but as a rule the main character is always a guy and I'll always find a game more appealing if I can play as a girl/woman.

    • @humblemudgames

      Sort of a mini-spoiler but just a heads up: you don't play as that character until the final act of the game. I'm saying this so you don't get your hopes to high or are confused when you get the full game and they don't show up lol.

    The series is just called SaGa, not Romancing SaGa. 😅 sorry I'm a huge fan of the series and I can't stand it when people confuse the titles. The Romancing SaGa trilogy on the original SNES is one thing, but not all games are under the Romancing umbrella. Just the SaGa.

    • @humblemudgames
      @humblemudgames  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm aware of that, before it was even called SaGa they were calling it Final Fantasy Legend, similar to how with Seiken Densetsu they called it FF Adventure here first in the States. I was specifically referring to Romancing SaGa 1/2/3 though, because that's what most people were also specifically referring to when making comparisons to Eve. Maybe I could have referred to it as a trilogy, but I feel like that's a little pedantic, since a trilogy IS a series, technically. 🤷‍♂️
