The new 2024 controller uses standard 0 to 5 V speed control and simple on/off switches. FWD/REV, start/stop and speed can be controlled but you must use an isolation board. Also there are no plugs for this. You would have to tap the actual wires inside the controller. We will release a CNC version in the near future.

Only the controllers with the reverse on the fly operating system can reverse like this. You do not even want to hear the price to make one custom made item. Only making 50 or more brings it into a price people are willing to pay. It's a simple on/off switch, It will not work with the foot pedal we sold in the past or with the controller that can run that foot pedal. The operating system can be loaded into that controller but it will no longer run the foot pedal or speed switch that controller uses. I do not have time. You will have to design it, manufacture the housings and wire it yourself.

Our new controllers are much easier to control through CNC. An isolation board is required. We are working on bolt on CNC systems now. New systems take a long time in R&D before being released.

@@danielmartin382 Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I put an order in for this upgrade last night. When I get it, I will do some experimenting to see if I can connect it to my CNC. Can't wait to get this, should be a very cool upgrade.

@@DominicUliano Your system is complete and ships out tomarrow. My printer sh-t the bed right after printing the shipping label so no paperwork in the box. Also I need to remake the video because: There is a huge improvement to the motor mount. Also the spacer is no longer used or supplied. When building yours, notice how the Sherline pulley is in the above video. It came reversed on many Sherline lathes. To reposition the pulley on the Sherline spindle just file a small flat for the set screw in the new location. I will update the video if/when I find time.

You could have put that spindle and bearings in the freezer overnight, then heated up the housing, and install the assembly fast. It would have slid right in. It would have avoided any damage to the bearings from hammering on them without supporting the inner race.

Buying and converting a sewing machine motor from the right manufacturer will get you close. Thing is, they are sewing machine motors and built with that in mind. Their programing and hardware is wrong. In particular, the Hall Effect Speed control. This is magnetic and attracts metal filings. When it shorts from said filings, it will smoke everything. Making it run with a pot can be done and depending on your skill, you can achieve fairly good control. Still 5K is too low and 10K is too high. It is also nearly impossible to achieve CNC control. Our new controllers are built for machine conversion. No hall sensor speed switch. Programed and wired for a std 10K pot. The speed signal is a standard 0 to 5 volts. Stop/start/reverse are simple on/off switches. This simplify's CNC conversion. However make sure you use an isolation board or you will still let the smoke out of everything.

Vevor is not a manufacturer. They are a large shipping and warehouse company that demands manufactures sell to them at the lowest cost possible. The machines can be from any manufacture and because of the large quantity purchased, the manufacturer will brand them as Vevor. Just because the parts exchange from one brand mini lath to the next does not mean they are from the same manufacturer. China puts all designs in their national data base. Different manufacturers start with the basic design. Some are new school increasing quality/price and some are old school, cutting every corner possible. I have a brand X 8X16 with 1.5" bore purchased on eBay here: www.ebay.com/itm/264467115634 Its a massive improvement over the 7X14 mini lathe. The most important being the wider bed. Also the P type VVVV belt drive. The 5" chuck also seams OK It came missing knobs. The overall base is a much better machine to start fixing. If/when I get time I will build a kit for it. Notice the Grizzly 8X16 has the wider bed and a lead screw reverse switch/gear box box but only a 28 mm spindle bore. The reverse box is needed on the Chinese 8X16

I can tell you firsthand about 3. My first was a Central Machinery (Harbor Freight) 9x20 (no longer available, but the same machine is sold by Grizzly Industrial as a G4000 9x19 $1,195.), and it’s a good machine except for the compound mount. Little Machine Shop sells a replacement for that part that’s massively more rigid, and if you’re not familiar with LMS, you need to be if you’re getting into mini machine tools! Second was a Harbor Freight 7x12 mini lathe (not sold in stores, online only. Bigger than the store model that they sell as a 7x10 - but it’s actually only 7x8!!!). This lathe is manufactured by Sieg, arguably the best producer of mini mills and lathes. This machine has been a good one, and only required minimal adjustments and cleaning. The final one is a Grizzly G0765 7x14. This lathe looked as though it was going to be top of the line. It’s not made by Sieg (Sieg lathes can be identified by an “H” shaped saddle), and without going into detail, I’ve been disappointed with it, and went back to the Harbor Freight lathe as my go to. The Grizzly is up for sale. LMS sells Sieg machines and also Sieg manufactured mills and lathes that are built to LMS’s specifications. Those machines, branded “HiTorque”, are the top of the line products, but priced accordingly! Also be aware that LMS sells all the parts for Harbor Freight machines even though parts from HF are mostly unavailable.

Actually they do have position encoders and can be programed to stop at them as well.

Hi Daniel, I was looking at the motor on your webpage with the back cover removed and it only has hall effect sensors, but no encoder. Anyhow, doesn't matter. By the way, I just bought one of your kits! Looking forward to installing. @@danielmartin382

The position sensor is an add on pair of hall sensors to be attached to the spindle of the machine, not on/in the motor. It plugs into the 4 pin plug and only has 2 stop positions. I do not use that function. The new control units eliminate it completely as most only use these motors as a manually operated high torque BLDC. I do have several customers controlling these motors via CNC systems: This is not easy on the current motors and it tends to be poor control as well. However the new controllers are much easier to convert. An isolation board is required. It is on/off switches and a simple 0 to 5 volt signal. Forward/reverse/stop/run/speed is achievable. I may release a schematic or an adapter kit in the future. Currently only the reverse on the fly controller has this operating system. I will be releasing all new systems in about 60 days to include all new housings designed for converting machines to modern motors. These do not have the extra plug in points for sensors etc so I suppose BLDC will be a more accurate description. Still all manufactures call these BLDC motors Servo Motors. In order to compete, I will have to do the same. Maybe you would choose to wait for the new release. Based on You Tube info, I cannot determine which purchase is yours.
