    The horsepower improvement is incredible.
    Kinda like replacing the small block with a big block in your Mustang/Camaro muscle car. Just pure power, so much so that you will never use all of it.
    This system provides full power at any speed and that includes Spindle RPM's as low as 60 RPM's

    I've had my 7x14 Erie tools lathe for 6 years now and have been fairly satisfied with it to a point. I always realized that it couldn't perform like bigger and better quality lathes but,for what I do it was adequate as at this point I really had no need for anything high precision. I've made a few upgrades and mods to it but always noticed it was lacking in its ability to produce a real decent finish but not anything that a little polishing couldn't fix but it always had a tendency to chatter somewhat no matter how much tinkering and adjusting I did so,I just concluded it was the nature of a cheap mini lathe. Last week while turning some delrin rod,the spindle just stopped dead but the motor was still running. At first I thought that the belt was slipping but when I inspected it,I realized that the motor shaft had snapped. It actually broke off clean right at the armature. I really don't know how it happened as I was only cutting plastic rod at the time. I'd been looking at this upgrade kit on ebay for some time and actually almost bought it awhile back but figured that I really didn't need it as the original motor had adequate torque for what I do. So I purchased this new servo kit from Dan last week,installed it and tried it on the very same piece of delrin that was still in the chuck when the shaft broke and immediately noticed a difference in the way it cut. There was no more chatter! All this time I thought it was something about the overall quality of the lathe but actually the motor was the culprit. I chucked up a piece of aluminum rod and tried it and the difference was huge. No more chatter. The installation of this motor was simple. I just had to modify the belt cover as bit per the instructions and some on the headstock cover,about 10 minutes work. Fit and adjusted perfectly. Every time that I had to change the belt on the other motor,It was a pain to get it right but this new one aligns perfectly.

    Still in the process of getting my new lathe up and running. I have the blue and white lathe in the video in a 7 x 14 configuration. Now I know how I'm going to fix it after I get up and running and break it, lol. The belt and pulley upgrades alone would be a huge improvement. My mad money account was stretched pretty thin with the lathe purchase, plus all the tooling, etc. Once it bounces back a bit I'm coming back cash in hand, this is a bad a$$ upgrade. Probably around the time you get back from vacation (I'm guessing) and start shipping again.

      Look again, I have servomotorkit.com set up for shipping to Canada. It is however costly ($85) and than there is Canadian customs. They are likely to tax your import.
      It is however technically sewing machine parts. Last I checked there is no import duty on sewing machine parts.

    • @danielmartin382
      @danielmartin382  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      David, I have no idea if you can attach other motors to the control unit. Likely not. Maybe with the 2 pin plug as a stop start control but due so at your own risk. See below.
      The extra plugs in the back are: 4 pin is for a needle stop position. It will basically stop the motor in 2 positions 180' apart. However to use this function you need to fit the position sensor (hall effect with 2 magnets) on the spindle. This is not worth the effort as there is not enough positions available to use it as a drill index etc.
      The 2 pin is likely a power out for a light or a safety cut off. I have not tested it and do not know.

    You mentioned you do mods on that lathe. Have you done any with the compound and cross slides? Also, with this mod are you able to take off more material per pass compared to the 750 watt motor that was in there?

    • @danielmartin382
      @danielmartin382  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes lots more with each pass. However just because you can does not mean you should. Remember the bed is only 3" wide. If it chatters, you are cutting too much.

      I only offer the conversion kits to include just the belt and pulleys and all the way to a complete system including the servo motor. I am also designing drives for shop smith and others. However I do not offer a replacement of the original drive as the original motors are prone to failure. text me at 8314212669 if you want direct contact.

    • @danielmartin382
      @danielmartin382  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The motor can be stopped and or run at any specific speed by providing the correct resistance or voltage to the external speed control version plug. Revolutions can be counted by back stabbing the field wires. Reversing would be difficult. Several say they have CNC control but none have provided instructions on how. I personally may never find time to design that system.

      Dave, I can build it in 110~120 volts or 220~250 volts. They sell in the USA at apx $289 USD. However I usually do not ship outside of the USA.
      That video is very dated. The new models have to many upgrades to list.
      To see them on eBay you need to register a US address in your eBay account. At that point you could buy but you will still need a US based reship company
      and they will likely charge you a considerable fee..
      I will consider selling to you direct but only after seeing your feedback on eBay. That is feedback you left for others.
