  • This video was created to help others upgrade the 3/4 hp brushed motor to a 1 hp high performance servo motor.
There is a lot required to make the servo motor fit this Vevor due to all the short cuts this manufacturer takes. Yes it is true that this lathe sells for a lot less then lathes of the same size and with the needed design changes. Thing is, when I consider time and materials to bring this lathe up to a usable level: It would actually cost less to buy that better lathe. Do I have one to suggest in this size? No I do not but maybe review/consider the little machine shop or toolots.
Take a look at this $1,000 lathe.
    www.toolots.com/ng-frontend/p...
Also this lathe with all the upgrades will be sold locally in early 2024.
It will be for about the same price as that Weiss linked above, no shipping!
If you are in central Florida, feel free to contact me to discuss this.
This is part 2. Please consider watching part 1 as it includes initial lathe set up. Things that nearly all Chinese mini lathes need right out of the box.
Part 3 will be a custom build in of our servo motor upgrade to include
using parts that do not exist as of making part 1. These parts are in R&D
    right now.
Due to multiple customer requests, we have made a partial kit available to purchase at
    www.servomotorkit.com/product...
This is not a bolt on kit as it still requires the machine work seen in this video.
This is prototype 2, if needed we will remove the parts off the demo machine and sell them to you. We will make more. This is because each time we make them we make them better.
The intent was to offer a bolt on kit for this lathe. Unfortunately and due to the design
of this lathe, we cannot create a reasonably priced bolt on kit for this machine. still if you have this lathe already, the conversion to our servo motor is a huge improvement.
We do have a black box built in control unit. That kit will be available around the end of 2023.

I completed this conversion using 2 CS's drive pulleys and EBAY Vevor 750 watt motor before this CS video was produced and Dan is totally accurate=NOT easy(S), A couple of suggestions- (1) buy a thread gauge &find a fastener supply place near you(not a box store)that has metric stuff-plan on re-bottom tapping/replacing a few bolts as many on mine were only engaged by 3 or 4 thd. (2) acquire some alum. round stock to turn necessary spacers. If you are a novice and complete this upgrade your skill level will increase greatly. Don't be afraid to take lathe apart as you are no less skilled than those who assembled it for shipment(S)=Good Luck

No one going to mention the overspray on the gears and spindle.

the WM/Y series doesn' thave the motor built in as part of the spindle, so it is easier to repalce or upgrade the motors.

Due to multiple customer requests, we have made a partial kit available
    to purchase, click the link

This is not a bolt on kit as you will have to do the machine work seen in this video.

I have the longer version of this lathe(8.7"x23.6") and I already have the 1100W brushless motor on it, but a flimsy belt drive. I like your belt with those pulleys. Do you think that it would work on my lathe? It is a horrible lathe. I had to rework a lot of surfaces on this lathe, even rebore an make a bronze bushing for the tailstock.

that likely has a 14 mm shaft. check the drive conversions already available at www.servomotorkit.com

Where did you get the correct size of spanners to remove the lock nuts for the pinion gear? I have a VEVOR 7x14 with an 800 watt motor, which is mounted directly on the spindle. The motor is direct drive, enclosed in the headstock, and looks to be inaccessible. I got a pop and sparks yesterday, and now the speed display stays at zero. The ribbon cable goes directly to the motor, so I don’t know what happened. The cable itself got smashed during shipment, and may have to be spliced with a plug. I found one open wire, where if may have grounded out and caused the spark and pop. The main board must have something to do with it, I have t checked for a blown trace on the back of the board. The lathe came damaged, and the threads on the spindle are not centered on the spindle, causing the pinion gear run out, and noise. I’ve been working getting all of the slop out of the slides, but the gears for the carriage hand crank have a huge amount of back lash. Looks like I’m going to have to drill out the housing where the cranks shaft passes thru, and install an off center bushing to move those gears together. What a pain in the ass, and more time to set this piece of crap up to par than it’s worth. I’ve got the time as I’m retired. I’ll probably sell it when it’s done, as I have another, hopefully better lathe com in this weekend. How expensive was the upgrade kit. Just curious how much money you are putting into this machine?

You could have put that spindle and bearings in the freezer overnight, then heated up the housing, and install the assembly fast. It would have slid right in. It would have avoided any damage to the bearings from hammering on them without supporting the inner race.

Will you make a kit for the PM1030 lathe?

      Absolutely.
      See the Bolton conversion.

      th-cam.com/video/s7zOhKWMzrA/w-d-xo.html
it is very close in design to some of the PM lathes and performs so much better than the original motor.
Than go to my website www.ServoMotorKit.com and contact me from there. Use text as described in the contact link.
We can swap some images, discuss what features you want and which ones you can do your self.
      Thanks

Vevor is the only mini lathe that I've seen advertise one with a 38mm(1.5"ish) spindle bore. Do you know of any other manufacturer that offers one, knowing they are all made in the same factory? I was looking at their 220x750mm range. Who would you go with instead?

    • @danielmartin382
      @danielmartin382  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Vevor is not a manufacturer. They are a large shipping and warehouse company that demands manufactures sell to them at the lowest cost possible. The machines can be from any manufacture and because of the large quantity purchased, the manufacturer will brand them as Vevor.
Just because the parts exchange from one brand mini lath to the next does not mean they are from the same manufacturer. China puts all designs in their national data base. Different manufacturers start with the basic design. Some are new school increasing quality/price and some are old school, cutting every corner possible.
      I have a brand X 8X16 with 1.5" bore purchased on eBay here: www.ebay.com/itm/264467115634
Its a massive improvement over the 7X14 mini lathe. The most important being the wider bed. Also the P type VVVV belt drive. The 5" chuck also seams OK It came missing knobs. The overall base is a much better machine to start fixing. If/when I get time I will build a kit for it.
Notice the Grizzly 8X16 has the wider bed and a lead screw reverse switch/gear box box but only a 28 mm spindle bore. The reverse box is needed on the Chinese 8X16

Beating on ball bearings is never a good idea, threaded rod is cheap and would push it on without damaging it…. It’s always been the poor man’s press…

    • @rodgraff1782
      @rodgraff1782 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

He could have put the assembly in the freezer, and then heated the housing. The spindle and bearings would have slid right in. One should never hammer bearings in. They should have been pressed on using proper techniques.
