Love your videos. Thanks JD.
How heavy is this when it's fully loaded? Trying to figure out if it's practical for me to carry around.
Another solid review, thanks man.
Nice video, straight to the point.
Im buying a Hondo for my dad for Xmas. It’s the kind of thing he would never buy for himself, but he’s absolutely gonna love it. I know he will talk about it all the time. He’s in his 70s and he’s worked hard his whole life and at this point he deserves to have really really nice things cause what the hell are we saving the money for anyway. Spending extra money to make sure that he has something amazing is going to make me happy my whole life a whole lot more than saving $150 for the basic brand. He’ll but just be taking it out of the trunk and setting it up nearby because he goes fishing with my nephew who is positively addicted to fishing and will stay out for five or six hours because he’s a kid and doesn’t understand that grandpa needs a break and God only knows my dad would never say a thing sitting in those rickety chairs he’s gonna be over the moon. Another thing is great about being an adult. You can’t wait for Christmas to GIVE gifts. thank you for your help. You rock.
What if you used an engine hoist/leveler from above to do this? It would allow for a lot of maneuverability. How about all-thread studs in 2 corners for alignment on reinstall?
Great video! I am about to tackle this on a 1979 Bonanza K10 and it is rusty. Not looking forward to it. Wouldn't be doing it if the cab wasn't sagging so bad and if the truck didn't have sentimental value. My grandfather bought the truck new and now I have it. Thanks for the insight in the video.
Said it’s better hauling with the wheels than without the wheels. 01:50
I have a discount code at REI plus 4 dollars worth of points. The total price is 165. I feel like going for it. How is it holding up so far?
@@Killa91115 it’s holding up great. No complaints and no regrets. Good little cooler. JD.
I'm thinking to do the same on a 1973 CJ5 jeep 258 but I hear you need a 240 amp alternator otherwise you'll blow fuses and other stuff will happen just trying to get an idea from your experience on your 258 motor
Do you know the torque specs for the cab mounts I bolts?
It's been a while now- how long has this been working for you- Is that gage cable good enough for your winch
Spartans work but are pretty harsh & noisy! I used them on both ends of my K10.
Great review gonna get this as a Christmas present for myself this year.
@@sonnyd820 You will not regret it!! Great choice and I’m glad my video helped. It’s a great cooler and I love it. JD
@JDOffline Thanks for your input. Waiting for a particular outdoors company so I can use my 20% off code!
Excellent and informative video! Exactly what I was looking for! Nice work buddy and that's the best beer in the world.
Haha thank you for that feedback and glad you like the video and the beer!! JD
I have the same saw and the same "upgraded" guides. The instructions are sadly lacking. Not clear. Small photos. Phone support non existent. The Carter guy claims "this Jet band saw model is not popular". I'm calling BS on that. Its still made and is double the price I paid in 2012. Manufacturers don't keep making "unpopular stuff" as this guy claims. I couldn't get the bolts that came with the saw to fit. The bolt head closet to the other block on the bottom guide wouldn't turn. So had to go spend more money and buy M6 allen head bolts that will fit. They wanted 6 bucks a piece at Ace Hardware. Blew them off and went to the Depot. Both for $2.75. If you need new bolts then Carter needs to supply those or be more clear. This IS NOT a cheap upgrade and I have to say I'm not all that thrilled with the experience I had with Carter.
Thanks for the feedback. JD
Greetings . How is the cooler holding up . I see that you loaded it with 48 beers and 1.5 bags of ice but how was it using the handle leaning the cooler back with all that weight and rolling it ?
Cooler is great and is holding up well. No issues fully packed and even putting stuff on top of the cooler to wheel around. Very well made and sturdy. JD
Great cart! Why didn't you put expanded metal on the whole bottom shelf? I want to make something like this but would hold two 22 inch kettles.
That is a great question. I guess when I was looking at other designs most were open under the grill to allow for hot coals, spills, ash whatever to fall through but to your point expanded metal would have been fine. Also, I have thought to myself and considered adding another kettle grill to it as well as I sometimes use two or could use two. Great insight with your comments. Use expanded metal all the way across the bottom and make it for 2 grills. Also, don't use the wheels like I did in this video, I ended up taking those off and added 4 locking casters on each corner. This took away the issue of how much this thing weighs and it rolls around effortlessly now. I still use this cart all the time and its one of my favorites. Grill and Chill 2 would be a cool video set up like you described. JD
Thanks for the informative video and taking the time to actually take the strut back off to show us!
Thank you!! Works great. JD
4100D axle tool
Thanks. JD
The only preference to me is a Planetary or Worn Drive . Worn Drive is best my operation , Less moving parts Operation quieter Greater Line Pull Supposedly not as efficient though .
This set up continues to serve me well. It's not used a lot just here and there and so far it all still works really well. JD
I have this chair, I regret the Hondo is unavailable in Australia, I did ask Yeti about it. I can buy another can hokder, I have no problem hitting the release button on withdrawing the can. I’ve not thought of it, I should get more beer and consider it. I enjoy pulling the chair forward by gripping the front of the chair (when sitting in it) which are really rigid unlike other chairs.
It's a great chair. More beer sounds like a plan!! Haha JD
I got the Trailhead, the Hondo is unprocurable in Australia, I emailed Yeti who said they had no plans to sell the Hondo in Oz.
Wow didn't know that. You will like the Trailhead. JD
Love this cart. Best I have seen on youtube or anywhere. Great job.
Thank you. It is probably the most used thing I have ever built. I did take the wheels off and added 4 casters to make it easier to move around and did repaint it once. The 4 casters take away the issue of the weight. Still use it all the time and one of my favorites. JD

Yeah they are not fun, hopefully you got it out. JD
Did you go with longer wheel studs in the rear when adding spacers?
@@emmettsampey5046 yes I did. I remember not being comfortable w the amount of “bite” the lug nuts had on the studs. I got them from oreillys and want say they were just a 1/4 inch longer. Maybe 1/2 inch. Wish I could remember the specs but it’s been a while. Hope this helps. JD
@@JDOfflineThanks my friend, live the truck! I also have a 84
Kieth Stone. I dig it.
Thank you! JD
Does the trailer box clear the tongue jack?
Barely!! I will tell you box itself hasn't held up well and faded really bad from being out in the sun. Mechanically it still works but plan on hitting it with some paint/spray paint once in a while. JD
14:47 fill ice up to the higher ridge but not up to the lower ridge ... huh?
The higher ridge is the ice line, the lower ridge is for the dry goods basket and I was making the point to make sure you fill the ice up to the top ridge as long as you are not using a dry goods basket. JD
excellent...is there a direct competitor to yeti?
Yeti has a lot of competition for it's coolers and drinkware but I don't know of anyone else that makes chairs like this. Mine are still great and holding up very well. They are an investment but they do last. JD
Great thorough video. Thank you!
Thank you, glad you liked it. JD
I saw your pink G-string when you were putting your beers into the cooler.
Jake is the best part of these videos. Not to say the reviews aren’t great, but Jake is always a welcome surprise lol
I agree with you, Jake is the best part and I can't compete with him!! He just turned 14 in July and is still going. Hope he will continue to be with us for many more years. JD
I just opened my new charcoal yeti hard cooler 1 hour ago ……Hope it doesn’t warp!
I haven't had a problem with the new one they sent me but admittedly have kept it out of the really hot sun. If I'm going somewhere really hot like the beach I will take a white cooler or the flip 18. Hopefully you won't have any issues. JD
Just ordered this in tan sort of as an 'upgrade' to my original Yeti Roadie 20, which is 15 years old now but still working great ! The reason(s) I justified the 'upgrade' were . . . #1, The Size- I have the 20 mounted in my small 15 foot Boston Whaler, and while it's fine, saving even a little real estate will be very welcomed. #2, The Weight - Though not a huge difference, when the 20 is loaded it's pretty damn hefty . . . saving a few pounds will be nice. #3, The Handle - The Roadie 20's stainless steel handle is nice for short distances, but the 15's shoulder strap looks much better for longer transports. #4, The Latches - The Roadie 20's latches are still holding up fine . . . but the new flip latches on the 15 look a lot more convenient. #5, The Basket Option - While certainly not 'important' . . . the option to have a 'dry sandwich loft' is very cool. The fact that they kept the tie-downs and drain sealed the deal . . . if they hadn't kept those the 15 would be a 'No Go' for Me. For my particular needs, going down in volume from 20 to 15 isn't an issue as I only use it as a 1 or 2 person day cooler. ( I always have spare room in the 20) I'm not expecting the world in terms of ice retention . . . I realize a little 15 sized cooler only has so much thermal capabilities. It's not that hot where I live, and if I can get a solid 24 hrs out of it, theat's more than enough. $200.00 is a bit of splurge for something I really don't 'need', but rather 'want' . . . so yeah, I'g guilty there. Lastly, I really hope the build quality is up to par, as I've read some complaints about quality control on these new 15's. Fingers crossed. (Upodate /Warannty Claim Submitted ) . . . I received the tan roadie 15. Got it home, unboxed and was very disappointed with the build quality. While it 'looks' cool and the design is 100% great . . . the seams at the lid and the top of the cooler itself very were mismatched almost all the way around the perimeter of the cooler. I really wouldn't care if it was in just one or 2 spots . . . but it's all the way around. One of the corners sticks out almost an 1/8". This is a break in the insulation seal and will only get worse with time. I compared it to my 15 year old Roadie 20, and it's night and day . . . other than a very 'slight' warping of the lid, that cooler is still 100% solid. I can totally see what's going on . . . the Roadie 15 is a 4 piece cooler that doesn't appear to be roto-molded in the same way the Roadie 20 was. These are possibly injection molded. There are 4 shells that appear to be assembled / bonded together to form the cooler itself. So at every joint / seam there is a chance for mis-alignment in the manufacturing process if everything isn't perfect. I understand why they probably did this . . . cost savings . . . but Yeti sort of created their own issue by switching construction techniques. I think I just received an exceptionally bad one . . . I've started the warranty exchange process . . . if they ship me one that is better I'll be 100% satisfied. I will update here after Yeti resolves the issue.
I've had good experiences with the warranty process and hopefully Yeti will stand behind their product. I have an old 20 as well and all the factors you pointed out make the 15 a better choice assuming the construction of the cooler itself is up to par. Keep us posted on what happens! JD
@@JDOffline Update #2. - I got the replacement Roadie 15 from Yeti. (Great Customer Service). It's a 'little' better than the one that I returned, but not by a lot. I think the issue is in how they are constructing these particular Roadies. The lid and the bottom are both made up of 2 pieces, (for a total of 4 pieces) and appear to be glued / bonded together . . . then each piece is injection molded. The pieces just don't 'bond' together at the seems as cleanly as the roto-molded models from Yeti. There is a slight gap that varies in size around all 4 sizes. Is this an issue as far as insulation??? . . . Probably, but given that it's just a little 15 day cooler I'm not gonna sweat it anymore. Now if the gaps 'grow' over time . . . then that's something else. I'd still recommend this cooler to anyone . . . it's just the right size for a day cooler. However, I'd warn people that it's not built like it's big brother Yet's.
Yeti is badass
Agreed! JD
Sweet very nice about 400 to build 🫣
Hard to say with how prices are now. The expanded metal is expensive for sure and it took a lot of spray paint to paint it. I build this years ago before all the prices went crazy. JD
Awesome video, thanks.

Great idea. I built mine from your concept. Thanks.
I still love mine and use it all the time. I did a "refresh" on it about a year ago and took those wheels off and welded on 4 casters which totally makes it so much easier to move around. Fresh coat of paint and it's good to go for more years to come! One of the best and most used items I've made. JD
Do you find that the voltage drop accross the distance from the truck battery to the wench is a problem ?
@@Backfire10 I haven’t had a problem w that. I leave the truck running so that helps plus it’s a diesel so it came w two batteries from the factory. JD
Good afternoon. I do have a question for you that I was hoping you could help me with. I have the exact same jeep as you. And 83 CJ seven with the exact same set up. I too am having steering issues and I have already rebuilt the entire front end. Just like you, I went with a rebuilt steering gearbox from O’Reilly‘s. It has proven to be disastrous. I’m considering a redhead steering gearbox until I saw your video for the PSC. In your opinion, do you feel that PSC would be better than the redhead. I can tell there is a significance and price difference, also I’ve recently replaced the power steering pump from O’Reillys as well. And I’m wondering will I need to replace the gearbox and the hydraulic system to match PSC. Essentially I would like my results to be just like yours. Tight steering thanks in advance for your help advice and great job on the videos.
I have no regrets with the PSC box and use a factory style power steering pump I believe I got from Summit Racing (there are more videos after my engine swap of the power steering pump set up). I have heard nothing but good things about the Redhead boxes but have never used one and as far as I know, PSC is the only one out there at the time I did my research that makes a truly brand new gear box. This has been several years ago so there may be more competitors out there today. I have a PSC pump on my camaro with an Oreilly's pump and have the same results as the Jeep. Hope this helps. JD
Thanks dude.... very useful video.... save me a lot of time, regards!
@@DrCJ7 You’re welcome. Glad it helped. JD
i don't understand, the video says no battery but your using a battery...
Original design was to have a battery in the tool box on the trailer but I later decided to use the dual battery set up on my diesel truck, eliminating the need for the separate battery. JD

BEST review. As a single female around 5', no reviews were answering my main concerns about weight/having to haul/load in and out of a car on my own (I'm not worried about bears and how many beers, lol). Knowing the weight vs capacity comparisons and that I can stack on the 48 and save trips lugging things back and forth is amazing. TY!
