  • In this video, I compare the new wheeled cooler from Yeti, the Yeti Roadie 48 with the Yeti Tundra Haul. Both great coolers and a tough choice. It is interesting to see some of the differences between the two.

    GREAT VIDEO!! Once again you came through with a very informative and helpful video my friend! LOVED seeing Jake again! He knows that whenever there's a Yeti out there's a good chance they'll be some ice to crunch on. Do you have any of the Yeti soft coolers anymore? I know you had the Hopper 12 and 18. Any updates videos on those by any chance? Give Jake a good scratch behind his ears for me 🙂

    • @JDOffline

      Thanks for that feedback! The only soft cooler I have is the Flip 18. It is by far my most used go to cooler because it is just the perfect size and most of the stuff I get into is day stuff. It's perfect for the beach and we use it a lot. Even full it is still manageable to carry around. I'm actually thinking of getting another in a different color, the one I have is charcoal gray. I had a Flip 12 but sold it because I stopped using it once I got the Flip 18. Best all around cooler in my opinion for day trips. I'll say hi to Jake for ya! JD

    If you plan to take it camping into bear country, the answer is simple: The Tundra Haul is the only one that’s got IGBC certification. Most campsites with bears require bear-resistant containers. If you’re hauling it around town and for backyard gatherings or boat trips, then the Roadie’s compact footprint and weight savings looks great. I don’t see why Yeti couldn’t modify the molds to allow for the same type of lockable corner on the Roadie without adding any size or weight. Of course, the Periscope Handle would perish from a bear attack even if the cooler shell survived.

    Thanks for the video!! Just a heads up, the Haul is 56 quarts, and the Roadie 48 is 46 quarts. Although they are similar, there’s a substantial capacity difference between the two.

    • @JDOffline
      @JDOffline  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      On the Yeti website they "size" them with how many cans of beer they will hold and the Haul will hold 45 vs the Roade 48 will hold 42. This is what I went by when I said they are roughly the same in capacity. I don't see anywhere on the Yeti website where quarts are listed (did I miss it?) Thanks for the information though! JD

    • @cartermarriott6607
      @cartermarriott6607 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@JDOffline You didn’t miss it, Yeti does a poor job of giving actual capacity of their coolers. The numbers associated with each cooler isn’t the actual quarts it can carry, unlike many other brands. To get actual quarts I had to calculate the internal measurements and convert them to quarts.

    • @JDOffline
      @JDOffline  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@cartermarriott6607 I figured you had to do a manual calculation, I searched all over for the quart sizes and couldn't find it. Volume-wise, I think the Roadie 60 is more comparable to the Haul than the Roadie 48. The 48 holds 54lbs of ice and the 60 holds 68lbs of ice. The Haul holding 64lbs of ice is closer comparison to the Roadie 60.

    Thank you for this review. This is the information I needed. So it looks like the Roadie would be better if you tend to pack wine. It looks slightly taller, which might accommodate the extra height without having to tip the bottle over, risking spills once the wine is opened and the ice begins to melt. Just going by looks but it seems like the wheels on the Roadie would bear more of the weight compared to the Tundra, just because of the angle and location of the handle and wheels. Also like the drink holder accessory. Shame it doesn't have the little holes for the bear locks. The Yeti isn't bear-proof without locks. The Roadie is not one I'd take camping in a place where you have to put your food away every night due to bears. If I get a heavy cooler, I don't want to have to lug it back to the car every night and out again every morning unless I'm parked by the camping spot.

      That's a tough one. I need to test fit the roadie 48 in my truck. I have a hard cover on my bed and the Tundra Haul fits in there with the hard cover shut no problem. I'm not sure the roadie 48 will fit because it is about an inch taller but if it fits with the hard cover shut then that would be my choice due to the latches, smaller footprint, cup caddy accessory and the massive capacity. Most of the time when I use the larger wheeled coolers is on vacation or going somewhere in the truck so the cooler fitting with the hard cover on the bed shut is important to me. Hope this helps. One reason for the weight difference is the roadie, I believe is injection molded plastic while the haul is rotomolded. Also the roadie isn't rated for bear country. • @JDOffline
      @JDOffline  19 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Let me say first I don’t think you can go wrong with either cooler. That said I have a 48 and I have no plans to buy a 60. The 48 is a beast and I don’t see a scenario where I would need a 60. All that said at that price point you are only $50 away from a 60 compared to a 48 so why not get the bigger one as long as you can deal with the weight and size of it. Tough call for sure. My 48 will not fit in the back of my truck w the bed cover on it which is the main reason I’m not looking at a 60. At the end of the day it’s what you want. Never hurts to have more capacity available. Hope this helps!!! JD

      I’m betting it comes down to cost. Why is the roadie lighter? If the insulation being used is equal in quality, but lighter, why aren’t they using it in all the coolers? I would imagine the handle of the haul costs more to manufacture than the telescoping handle on the roadie as well. There are multiple weld points on the haul handle, which adds complexity to manufacturing. 2 flat pieces of aluminum for the telescoping handle is much quicker and cheaper to produce.

    I think the tundra haul is more comparable to the Rosie 60 instead of the 48.

      Going great and Happy New Year. We are building a house and it has delayed me from making videos for the moment. Should move in sometime around March 23. JD

    Are they really the same capacity?

    • @JDOffline
      @JDOffline  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are actually not the same, but fairly close. Yeti doesn't give an actual internal volume only how many beers it will hold but one viewer calculated it out and the 48 is larger. Close enough for me I guess....JD

      @@JDOffline thank you! That’s very interesting! I swear the Tundra looked larger haha. By the way, you mentioned that both have issues on the sand in your review. Does that mean you will have to lift it up carry it some other way?

    Which one keeps ice colder for longer ?

    • @JDOffline
      @JDOffline  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't officially test the ice retention so I can't say but I'm guessing they are both fairly equal. I have found that most of the rotomolded Yeti's are consistent in terms of ice retention. Hope this helps. JD

      Yes sir Ed! We are in the process of building a house and a workshop and it’s awesome. I should have probably done an update video but man it’s been busy. We sold our old house really fast and have been in a small apartment for about 5 months. We are moving in to our new house in 4 weeks from today. Lots of work to do but everything is good and I appreciate you asking. More videos and updates will follow !!! Jeep is dusty but good. JD
