How did you go about getting the shifter housing off so that you could clean it & paint the selector?

My housing wasn't bolted in so it just lifted right off. Then I flipped it over and there are tabs that will cause the shift boot to come out and then I had to unbolt the selector parts and take them apart. Hope this helps. JD
