Thanks Steel Mill. My good friend John got me that sign for my birthday. All we do is drink beer and talk about fixing stuff in his garage, my garage is where sh*t gets done! His new shop should fix that.
Matt has a nice truck. I have a 1981 square body step side. I had a 454 build for it that I have yet to install it. I also have a Clay Smith Cam in it. I had to look up my cam specs to see how close it was to Matt’s. My cam is an older grind from 2013. The last time the engine ran was on the dyno in December 2016. Thanks for posting this video.
Yeah he's done a lot with this truck, even more it's due for an update video for sure. Sounds like you need to install that motor my friend!! Thanks for checking out the video, glad you liked it. JD
@@acetomatocompany it’s hard man life gets in the way. I haven’t published a video in almost a year. My wife and I built a house and now I have a stress fracture in my back so I understand. I’ve got a half built 383 stroker for the Camaro. I’ll get back to it soon though! Will start publishing more videos soon as well. Just need a little bit of time. Anyway all I can do is encourage you my friend. Like I said I understand. Nice talking w you. JD
Yes they are I wanted to put a 5.3 Ls in mine but $$$….. oh you know them cuv grill bumper hard you was talking about where I work they have a bunch of military old square Bodies and they are 4 of them with the bumpers in good shape I thought about getting all of them
he said its a gen 6 but you have older pulley system what did you do about the harmonic balancer to fit bottom pulley and alignment ? did you omit crank sensor magnet behind balancer? please explain before i do this and make mistakes thanks
Sorry we missed it, maybe next year? My 454 with 35’s, 4.10’s, and a 4 speed knocks down just over 12mpg interstate cruising. Not too bad for what it is. Jasper is about an hour and 45 minutes from John and I.
Has he built this for more low rpm torque? I recently bought a 454 it’s going in my 87 squarebody 4x4 so im looking for something with low end grunt. I thought about a top end kit but it maxes torque and Hp around 6k rpm which is not the rpm range I’ll be in. The custom ground cam sounds phenomenal and that’s exactly the sound i’m after. Great motor!
It’s def a low to mid range motor. He did a great job w it and yes it sounds awesome. Good luck w your build. Take your time w the engine, research etc and you’ll get what you want from it. Good luck w your build and keep us posted. JD
Yes, this is purpose built for torque. Oval chamber heads, good compression, dual plane intake, hydraulic roller cam with under .600” lift, and smallish cfm carb.
Did he reuse the stock engine stands and mounts? Im putting a 454 in a 85 c10. I swapped the engine stands out of a factory bb truck and purchased new bb motor mounts an used the original 305 clam shells. The engine wont line up on the left hand side. Any help would be great
I'm currently putting a 454 in my 85 k10 GMC short wheel base, what is the name of your headers and what is the part number if you have it. Nice square body btw
Matt said they are heddman headers but he wouldn’t recommend them based on the leaks around the flange. I’ve got Sanderson headers on my Jeep (350 swap but I’m sure they make some for a 454) and have had zero issues w them. More $$ but no issues. Mine are the block huggers. Hope this helps. JD
They are Hedmans. I can tell you even though they fit the frame and chassis without any need to massage the tubes the flanges completely suck. Leak like crazy. I had to cut the flanges between each pipe and run the port surface on a belt sander to square up the mounting surface to get them to seal. They still leak some. I think the part # was500- 69380 but not 100% sure on that.
I Love that sign in the garage.Hard work does pay off.Dont forget that boys and girls👍Nice work Matt.
Haha yes it does. JD

Love that you called out the zip ties. Great buddy!!!
Yeah I thought that was funny for sure. JD
Great update, Matt has skills 👍👍
Hey Mike! Yes he’s talented for sure and much more persistent than I am! Haha. Hope you are well my friend and happy 4th of July!

I absolutely need to get it installed. Spent over 20K and I still need accessories and drive, headers and radiator. Thanks, John.

That’s a question for Matt for sure. I’ll see if he will reply. JD
You should bring your Jeep to Sheriff's Jeepfest, Matt could even bring the square body.
Where and when is it??

I’d love to know the part number for those headers? I am really struggling to find a set of long tubes that clear the frame on my 85 k10

Were did you buy your motor parts
He had most of the parts around his shop but I know he got a Clay Smith cam, not sure about the rest of the parts probably Summit. JD
