Cheap(ish) Rack and Rear Case for KTM 790/890 Adventure
I wanted a hard case on the back of my 890 Adventure and this was my solution. It's been great - I actually filmed this over the winter, so I've been using the case for several months now.
The rack is available on Amazon and at Rocky Mountain ATV. Depending on where you are, one might be cheaper than the other. I've included links to both (On Rocky Mountain, You'll need to specify your bike to get the correct rack):

    I own the T7. I really love it and here comes the “but” it’s tall and top heavy! I only ride gravel road and anything else than that I would use another bike. I wouldn’t dream of taking the T7 really off road for single track and so on. I have had one tip over with my T7 and man it’s a heavy bitch to pick up again 🥵if I was going for something else today I would go with the Transalp it runs really good and is lower and not so top heavy. I just hate the look of the Honda, looks so boring! Regarding Aprillia, hmm I just don’t trust their reliability 🤷🏻‍♂️I have heard that some people have transmissions problems with the Suzuki, haven’t seen anything myself just heard it.

      Yeah, I’ve heard that particular “but” about the T7. It’s funny, the bigger bike I finally went with wasn’t even on this list… sort of. I got the KTM 890 Adv. Same engine as the Norden though. It’s really been great. I’ve heard KTMs can be really hit as far as reliability goes, but so far, mine’s been a hit. Love the super low center of gravity with the split gas tank, and the tech is amazing.

    Riding in a safe manner goes a long way but I have seen several incidences where the soft front end led to a washout. ABS might have corrected it but perhaps adjusting the front until you decide what's best for you would be in order? I'm too old to be hitting the ground & picking bikes up too often.... lol, I do like the Rally version. Pretty nice bike

    Ehh having a WR250R and a Beta 390, if I had to buy my first bike it might be an XR400, but I think I'll be keeping both my bikes for a while. It's not the power of the CRF300 that I don't like so much as the weight. But I'd consider one if I just wanted to do easier dual sport rides in an area with no freeways, or if it's all I could afford and I needed a street legal bike somewhere like CA. I want something that could replace both. Maybe 80% as good as the fancy euro bikes. Something lighter and better offroad than the WR but simpler and more affordable than either. Like a modern XT500. My practical ideal bike: Air cooled 500 tuned for torque, either good tunable FI or a smartcarb, redline maybe 7-9k, mounted backwards for reduced gyroscopic effect, moly steel frame, right side up forks with rubber accordion protector thing so I don't have to keep cleaning the seals, 4 gallon tank, skid plate and handguards, under 300lbs wet.

    I got this video saved - valuable info and the handle is more important than anything else concerning a bike..... fast is great but w/ a crap suspension you might not live long enough to go fast twice....? You've ridden this bike but is it as bouncy as I perceive it to be, before the suspension upgrade? I do like the Rally Model & I'm looking at several dual sport bikes but somehow missed this Rally Model? I see another video of you testing the new suspension so I'm going there now.... see ya there!

  • @user-dv7hb2sc9m
    @user-dv7hb2sc9m 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I can't imagine doing the performance upgrades w/o doing something w/ the suspension..... of course I don't own this bike so I'm just thinking out loud. Time to watch the video ~ as I look at this I think if you did one you would need to do the other as well. This is a rather unique way to show upgrades but it's better than one person saying it's better... lol, here ya both can do the tests & discuss it which makes it a more valuable set of upgrades but I'd want both. Very interesting content, thanks.

    • @user-dv7hb2sc9m
      @user-dv7hb2sc9m 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So you changed the back suspension & what did the front include? Did you redo the springs or some other swap out? I'm wild guessing & I'm wondering what is the cost for the labor to do the suspension upgrade you did? I'm thinking you did all the work yourself but someone like myself w/o tools could not. What would I be in for, money wise?

    • @HighDesertHills
      @HighDesertHills 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@HighDesertHills >> hey man, glad you're still out there. I'm just sitting here doing my due diligence as I research bikes & more specifically, dual sports. I had considered the 300L Rally once & it dropped off my radar but I'm back to finish off the bike, properly. I like the Rally version but the suspension is serious lacking if not a danger? Anyhow, you've got a lot of videos on the bikes I've looked at so now that I'm here - I'll be binge watching your stuff - probably blurting out bull crap but in the nature of learning stuff I don't know. I had forgotten about subbing to you & now I see you've got a lot of videos. Off to it!! peace

  • @peterhughes6949
    @peterhughes6949 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Great Video. There is a little more that you didn't cover. 1 - The increased wheel diameter will change the qorque or gearing of the bike slightly. You could do some maths to calculate this. 2 - The stock speedo has been calibrated from the stock diameter tyre. This may change the speedo reading again depending on where the sensor is. Again, some maths required to see if this is significant, although I don't expect so. and finally you did cover that the width and gap to fitment is really important. Actually it may all fit and seem fine. But the larger diameter could foul on body work when you completely bottom the wheels out, say, full gear and hit a large dip that bottoms out your suspension. So maybe some rubbing under the front or rear fender. I haven't done any research to see if that's the case. You will see of hear the evidence of this later on. Overall, thanks for taking us on your (and ours) learning journey.

    • @HighDesertHills

      To me it feels great feathering it, and it’s much easier to do with the wider friction point. That said though, I tend to avoid super technical terrain on this bike. It handles amazing, but it does weight like 450 lbs, and picking it up on a hill would be a nightmare for me.

Awesome guitars, incredible workmanship, play like a dream and they're also prettier then any Les Paul I've ever seen.

You need 350-400cc minimum for any sort of touring/adventure riding. These bikes are a glorified trail bike. Buy a Triumph Scvrambler 400X or a Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 or a CF Moto 450 MT or even a Royal ENfield Classic 350/ Meteor 350 would be better for long distance riding on/off road. May sound like a stupid idea but I've used mine off road & they handle it very well with the 19" front wheel standard. But it's the superb long stroke engine that makes your ride so easy going & relaxing.

    I know the common thought behind being able to turn off ABS is to allow riders to lock the rear wheel to slide around corners but that’s not the real reason. ABS relies on the tyre having some friction from the road surface. This is probably best shown by using a car braking on ice as an example. When you brake hard on ice in an ABS equipped car it just carries on with the ABS releasing and braking with it having no retardation whatsoever. A motorcycle going downhill on a loose surface can get into the same situation, the ABS tries to work but the wheels keep turning, no effective braking whatsoever. If you can switch off the ABS you can lock up the rear wheel, the rear tyre will skid but at least there is some braking. By applying the brakes until the rear skids then releasing the brake and repeating several times you will eventually slow down and hopefully come to a stop.

    Hi Sir, I own the Duke 890 R and clutch lever is very stiff to pull, especially into twisties (a lot of shiftings). I bought the nice cnc mod, but not mounted yet because I noticed that (obviously) “cam” is longer, so travel get shorter, and even the stock bracket/cam has barely the necessary travels (even if free play is close to zero).
