  • A winter outing on the Rally to hunt down a few old cemeteries. The temperature was frigid, and the snowy section got a little slippery, but it was a fun ride all the same.
    Here's a link to a balaclava similar to the one I have:

    Just amazing scenery for someone who never gets snow. 👍

      I can be pretty, but for riding I’d prefer it not be there 🙂

    Holy cow! That was two hard hits. Good to see you pop right back up. My neck and back feel sore just watching. I think I’ll stay off the ice. Come on spring!

      Haha, probably a wise choice. I was a bit sore the next day 😂

    I was contemplating your "gyroscopic stability" while on ice theory, right about the time you took your first spill. Thankfully you and bike are
    ok after that one !! You,re an adventurous soul getting out there in those temps. I did do a 30 mile gravel road ride the other day here in Missouri when the temp was 18 degrees, but that was on my Pedal Fat Bike. Self propulsion tends to keep a person much warmer that
    just twisting a throttle.😆Plus, the slower speeds help as well.
    I too have developed a fascination with old cemeteries of late. My wife says it's a strange new hobby, but hey, iv'e never been a fan of Living
    History. We vacation in Logan Utah every year, and iv'e really been enjoying exploring the backcountry up there on my klx 300.
    The most interesting Gravesite iv'e found up there so far is Old Ephraim's.

      Awesome - I’m up in the Logan area all the time. I’m going to have to hunt down Old Ephraims’s grave. Thanks for the comment!

    I couldn't help but laugh as you responded to falling. I promise I won't tell your wife that you fell. This was a fun way to make a ride more fun to witness. Not the falling, but the cemeteries.

      I showed her the crash. She said, “that would look really cool of I didn’t know it was you.” 😂

    I love visiting old cemeteries and tracking my genealogy. I also ride a 300 Rally. I feel maybe we were brothers in a past life LOL. Ride on brother!

    I am not a good rider at all ,but when I got rid of the stock IRCs on my Rally , things got a ton better. But as you said ,ice is a different animal.

      What tires did you go with? I’ve liked the D606/M21 combo in the past, but have been thinking about the Kenda K270s as well.

    Brave man! We should meet up sometime. I ride a Rally and my wife has a 300l. We live in Kearns, and ride out by you all the time.

      Sounds fun! There seems to be several 300L / Rally riders around this area. It’d be cool to put together a big meet up sometime.

    Way to laugh as you're sliding down the road man🤣 that first spill was great, with the bike just sailing down the road.

      Haha, yeah - definitely the most fun I’ve had crashing.

    Studded tires. Cold weather stiffens the rubber which makes traction worse.

  • @trailrideadventures
    @trailrideadventures ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I put studs on my ebike and have no problems on the road and ice, I just have to be careful in snow where the studs can't reach the hard surface of the road (deeper snow).

    • @HighDesertHills
      @HighDesertHills  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool! What brand of studs did you go with? And are the tires on your ebike tubed? I’ve heard some people say the studs can puncture your tubes, but others say it’s fine 🤷‍♂️

    That was tough to watch. I am glad to see that Beautiful Honda took the blows pretty well. I hope your wrist and hand get feeling better. That's a heck of a shock when you get a mile down a block of ice and find out you are a mile down a block of ice.
    You did a great job getting back to actual road. Other than the falls, great video. Nice bike too.

      @HighDesertHills  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, the bike held up great, and thankfully so did I. Thanks for the comment!

    Hey, I found your channel looking for CRF300L Rally info. Unfortunately Noraly (Itchy Boots) has made the bike just about unobtainable. It's great that you take your bike out year round. I'm up in Canada, but it's been a mild-ish winter so far in Ontario, which got me thinking of getting something that would be good to take to some local forests in the summer and maybe the odd snowy riding adventure in the winter. I currently own a street bike which wouldn't get me to the end of my street in winter.
    Checking out old cemeteries is a great way to get yourself out when the weather gets a little chilly. Good for you...

    • @HighDesertHills
      @HighDesertHills  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment John! I hope you’re able to track down a Rally soon. Definitely more doable in the winter than a street bike. Although with how we’ve been getting pelted with snow here in Utah the past couple of days, anything short of a snowmobile is probably inadequate 🙂

    Oh ya i just bought tusk bar mits at rocky mountain atv for 20 bucks ,

    • @HighDesertHills
      @HighDesertHills  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve got bar mits too, just haven’t put them on this year yet. So far the heated grips along with ski gloves have been great. I’ll probably throw the mits on as the temps continue to drop.

    Cool video Tyler..(No pun intended.....honest... Well...maybe). We have a bunch of neat cemeteries in my area from the gold rush era. Fun to explore.
    Question tho.....what heated grips are you running?? And I assume the CRF300 has the electrical to run them fine. I have not checked out that yet.

      Haha, it was a pretty cool ride 🥶 I’d love to check out those gold rush cemeteries sometime.
      I’m running the Oxford Adventure heated grips. The stator has plenty of juice for them. They are a bit wider than the stock grips, so I had to scoot the controls on a bit, but I like them a lot. I also swapped out the handlebar for a Protaper fat bar.
