I am glad to hear you love every motorcycle you ride. I do feel you can be trusted in that you own the 300 Rally, (as do I) and the 890, (which I want). I would love to hear your opinions regarding which one you would choose for the UTBDR, or something similar. Keep up the great videos.
Thanks! At this point I’d be much more comfortable on the Rally if I was doing the UTBDR. I’ve never done it before, but it’s rated on the more difficult side. Me and a couple friends are planning on doing the IDBDR next year, which is easier. I plan on taking the KTM for that one.
As far as Ramblings go, this could be your Magnum Opus. Thanks to that always amazing Utah sky, and the KTM soundtrack, i barely listened to what you were saying anyway, so another great video IMHO. 😉
I think the problem is you may be too hard on yourself. Here is the thing, motorcycles are just amazing and its natrual to love them all. I dont know if its so much of that there are just dogcrap motorcycles its just maybe have bonus and negitives. Also you list pretty much a niche of bikes in the class you like to righ (on/offroad) take any sport bike for a long trip, sure it will be fun at first until the pain of that riding position kicks in. After 2hrs on my SV650 I felt like i couldnt move, like a slept a whole night in a terrible position. Maybe you just love offroad motorcycles and the fun they offer.
Howdy! Im in the same boat right now...have a XT250, but where I live, i need to get on significant pavement to get to the nice dirt roads. and the XT250 is just too scary while getting passed by cars and trucks at 80mph. Looking at a 300LRally or a CB500x. But, i am short at 5'7 so the XT fits perfectly. no perfect bike...EVER. Cheers!
The CB500X was a serious contender when I was looking at bigger bikes. I got hung up by the cast wheels, but I’m sure with my riding style they would have been fine. Plus there’s always the rally raid kit. The 300L Rally is fabulous, but still struggles at freeway speeds. At least Utah freeway speeds (80 MPH+)
The xt250 is brilliant. The more you ride really nice capable bikes like your Ktm the more some of the basic bikes flaws jump out. The Klr650 is my pick for worst motorcycle. It does everything poorly. But you wont appreciate how poorly till you're trying to travel with it and are packing more oil then gasoline because if you do more then 65 mph the oil just disappears... and off roading with it feels like wrestling your john deer garden tractor down a trail.... picking it up is a challenge for a strong man competition. Still fun... but only if you dont know better.
Great point about noticing the flaws more when you know better. You have me curious about the KLR now. I did get on one a few years ago, but that was right after I got my XT250, and I was too worried about the KLRs size to really pay attention to weather I liked it or not (I only rode it around the block). I think I’ll try to hunt one down and give it a try now. Thanks!
@@HighDesertHills you'll learn all about the doohickey, the klr thermo bob, and the klr 685cc big bore kits. All are necessary mods once the original cylinder warps and starts using oil.
All right - I'm going to try to find one to ride 😂 Did you mean the 883? I did a quick search for an HD 886, and all that came back was 883s, but that doesn't always mean much. I've actually never ridden a Harley at all - though like a lot of middle aged guys, when I was 40ish I almost bought one. Love the look of the Fat Boy, so that was my dream bike for a long time.
So what... If you fall in love with every bike? If that's the worst of your high crimes and misdemeanors, your wife (and kids) are fortunate! Some go fishing (and drop a fortune - for some $Very$ expensive fish)! If desert rides are cathartic for you and/or you just like experiencing new things (like bikes), as long as the kids are not going barefoot, have not worked for it? No need to apologize...
Can’t unsee the transparent smiling stingray of a windshield.

Barely listening to what I’m saying is probably a good rule of thumb for most of my videos 😂
Absolutely fantastic vid. Really like your thoughts on this subject. I am also guilty of this. Hi from Seattle.
Thanks!

That’s a good point. I’ll have to take a spin on some other styles of bikes and see how I like them. If nothing else it’d be a fun experiment 🙂

This human psychological trait is what keeps commerce thriving 😂
Haha, yeah. I’m doing my part to keep capitalism alive.
I couldn't say it better..." I love every motorcycle I ride "
Yeah... it's a good problem to have, I suppose.
There are very few bad modern motorcycles.

I haven't found a motorcycle I hate yet but I don't enjoy riding the older harley Davidson 886 that is as close as I come to a bike I hate

@HighDesertHills ya the 883 it was 20ish years ago I rode that bike and it was my brother inlaws bike it is the Sportsters model
Try a Himalayan. Those are dog slow. I don’t think you’ll like it.
They look pretty cool though :)

Yeah, I suppose there are worse things than liking every motorcycle 🙂
