ChunkyFellaFishing
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 17 ก.ย. 2023
My father had a tendency to call me "Chunky Fella," and it was not exactly due to my petite frame. Paying homage to the man I dearly loved, and recently lost to cancer, I call my channel "ChunkyFellaFishing." I am a chunky man, fishing for chunky fish.
I thoroughly enjoy fishing the rivers and creeks of Middle Tennessee for my favorite fish to catch, the smallmouth bass. I'm typically fishing on my Bonafide SS127 kayak, but I'll also occasionally hitch a ride on my brother's boat.

Bass Fishing a Biodiverse Powerhouse River - Bobcat Present and Filmed!
The Duck River is a top biodiverse river in the world, and it's just 25 minutes from my home in Middle Tennessee. I've seen otters, thousands of fresh water mussels, a variety of fish and now, a BOBCAT!
All catches were made on topwater Whopper Ploppers this hot July afternoon. I fished for about 5 hours, paddling upstream from the Carpenters Bridge access point in Columbia, Tennessee.

This week I'm visiting the Duck River of Columbia, Tennessee, once again in search of a 20" smallmouth bass. Every catch except one was on the topwater Whopper Plopper.
Sharpen Your Hooks - Another Monster Got Away on the Duck River!
มุมมอง 28114 วันที่ผ่านมา
I took a quick upstream trip, a half day at best, from Leftwich and towards Carpenters Bridge on Columbia, Tennessee's Duck River. I paddled a couple of miles upstream, casting topwater in that direction, and saw some smaller spots hit my lure. But, then it happened. I hooked into a big smallmouth, who displayed his power with several acrobatic displays. And then, he spit the hook and crushed m...
Whopper Plopper Topwater Action on the Buffalo River
มุมมอง 1.1Kหลายเดือนก่อน
It was a scorcher on the Buffalo River, but it didn't stop the smallmouth, spotted bass, or rock bass bite, and the whopper plopper reigned supreme! When the topwater bite is on, the whopper plopper is my answer. It's my favorite lure of any I have, and it brought me several blowups on the Buffalo River!
The Topwater Bite WAS ON In Late Spring/Early Summer on Narrows of the Harpeth!
มุมมอง 193หลายเดือนก่อน
We saw numerous aggressive smallies and spots blow up the whopper plopper on the Narrows of the Harpeth in Harpeth River State Park. What was expected to be an overcast fishing day actually turned into a beautiful sunny day and the fish were AGGRESSIVE.
Astonishing 25 Bass Caught in One Day on the Collins River of Tennessee

My very first day on the Collins River in McMinnville, TN resulted in an astonishing 25 bass caught. Join me as we fish together on the beautiful Collins River in search of smallmouth, rock bass, and muskie while kayak fishing. The rock bass and smallies couldn't lay off the ned rigged Nikko Craw and they practically jumped into the boat!
Heartbreaking Trophy Smallmouth Lost on the River - But Caught Clearly on Camera

Late Spring smallmouth fishing is your best opportunity to land that massive, trophy fish. Watch how easy it is to get your heart broken by a big smallie, on the Harpeth River. At least I caught great footage of that heartbreaker!

Join me as I make an idiotic mistake and jump on the river for a 9 mile float during a torrential downpour and raising water levels. Still, I caught a ton of fish, found a vintage Abu Garcia Reel and an Expensive St. Croix rod, and landed one SLAB of a SMALLIE! It was May 4th, and the 4th was with me!
TOPWATER Spring Smallmouth Bite BLOWUPS on the Beautiful Buffalo River!

I discovered the smallmouth bite is ON in Middle Tennessee at the Buffalo River in late April! Ned Rig Nikko Craw Fishing in Springtime for Smallies, Spotted Bass, and Rock Bass
มุมมอง 2733 หลายเดือนก่อน
This was a 9 mile float in mid-April down the Harpeth River in search of some bass (smallmouth, spotted, and rock bass). I saw a little waterfall, a beautiful field of wildflowers, met some new friends, and caught a bunch of fish (including one big old stinky drum). I used primarily Nikko baits, including specifically, the Nikko Craw (green and red). I tried the Super Ned but only caught one fi...
Kayak Bass River Fishing in Early Spring
มุมมอง 1593 หลายเดือนก่อน
This was a last minute midday trip to the river to catch some rock bass, spotted bass, and smallmouth bass. The river was just over 55 degrees in early spring, and he topwater bite is not on yet. I primarily fished with ned rigged Nikko Craws, a Booyah spinner bait, a whopper plopper (that saw no action).

Join me as we head back to the Buffalo River in search of the elusive smallmouth bass. Early Spring brings terrific opportunities to catch large smallmouth in Middle Tennessee. I took my brand new Z-Man Drew's Ultimate Ned Rig Rod (paired with a new Shimano Vanford) and my Bonafide SS127 to the Harpeth River (Middle Tennessee) to catch smallmouth bass, but instead hooked up with Rock Bass and Spotted Bass, who often mistake my smallie lures for candy!

Tougher than me! I haven’t had the kayak out in the heat, just been wading every weekend staying nice and cool! Sitting on top has got to be toasty!
Oh yeah… cooking kayakees like a pound of bacon.
@@chunkyfellafishing 😂😂😂
Braver than me in this heat!! got up at 4am the last two weekends to spend 4 hours on the water...couldn't do it this week. Great to see the wildlife coming back...I guess the advantage of social media is none of the teenage boys are out hunting anymore....thanks for the video!!
Thanks for watching!
Carpenter to leftwhich is a good float !
I’d like to do it in the fall for sure!
@@chunkyfellafishing how long is that one?
My wife and I passed you on the river this day. I was the only cowboy hat on the river I reckon. You caught more than me for sure. Great video! Just subbed!
Thanks, buddy! Hope y’all had as much fun as me!
Hey man where are you putting in on the Duck. Never been there. Fished the Buffalo a lot from Crazy Horse.
I usually put in at Leftwich and get out at Howard’s bridge. Check this out: www.higherpursuits.com/rentals/paddling-routes/
@@chunkyfellafishing thank you sir. I will have to check that out.
I've caught some decent fish in the Duck, but sometimes it's tough to know what lures to use because of how dirty the water can get. Looks like you had a decent trip!
Not bad! Thanks for watching, buddy!
Fellow middle TN angler subbed 🎉
Thanks for watching, buddy!
Where did you put in and take out? I just fished the duck on my kayak for the first time a few weeks ago
You don’t have to use the outfitter, but this will help: www.higherpursuits.com/rentals/paddling-routes/ Public access!
i spent the whole video touching myself to your feet
Ya this heat has been brutal lately. At least you didn't get skunked 😎😃
Amen!
The fish looked to be close to around 18-20” for sure. Clearly well spawned out and in full summer mood. Go back in November-April and that fish will be thick! I have fished the duck for 8 years now. I have personally seen a couple 21s and one 22.5 come from that stretch. Keep it up man!
Thanks for watching, buddy.
Fished at leatherwood bridge a few times this week, but haven't had any luck besides a lure sized largemouth. Flung some nightcrawlers right in front of 3 cats in the shallows, but they completely ignored me. Still enjoyed myself. Great video ✌️
Thanks, buddy!
Monster??? What a joke. Literally a two pound smallie maybe. Thanks for wasting ten minutes. 😂
It was a good fish (bigger than 2 lbs, and I’d say at least 3), but keep in mind that I fish in rivers, where fish don’t sit and get fat. They burn calories fighting current. They’re long and lean. My PB isn’t a Dale Hollow 9lb smallie, it’s 4lb 3oz Harpeth River smallie. GoPros suck at both zoom and depth. Thats the only thing they suck at.
Man I have been there so many times. I lost 3 pb fish before I finally broke my record again… something about those big fish always being the ones that get away
Amen, so painful!
Is this a public access area?
It is. Go here: www.higherpursuits.com/paddle-the-duck-river/ It’s leftwich to Howard’s bridge.
You don’t have to use the outfitter.
@@chunkyfellafishing Fantastic. Thank you
@Irkin_Bollikans you bet, buddy. Thanks for watching and please consider subscribing if you’re not yet!
Another great video! I wish I had your confidence in that whopper plopper lol.
Cast it a ton!
Looks like a great time for sure!
Long float, as you know!
Nice trip and nice fish....my wife went with me once........once.
Johnny Dangerously style! My wife just floats and reads her book. She’s been to the Harpeth a bunch but this was her first non Harpeth float.
lets go
Appreciate you watching!
Did you use a shuttle service there?
No, sir. My brother brought his jet boat out and I hitched a ride back to my truck that way. Thanks for watching!
Nice to see the Harpeth green again...and the topwater bite heating up!!
Amen!
Man, you were killing it with top water that day! Thanks again for the company 😎
Always a pleasure, bud.
Noticed you had 99 subscribers, so I had to go ahead and make it an even one hundred.
Appreciate that so much. 3 digits!
Nice outing...the Collins is beautiful and completely different than the other middle tennessee rivers. I fished the buffalo for the first time this week...just gorgeous. Found a new lure you might like...perfect for small rivers and light line fishing. Zman flashback mini chatterbait....gives you a lure that covers a lot of water and target for the smallies chasing bait fish. Much like using a rooster tail...but no line twist!! Thanks for the video!!
Thanks for the tip, my friend, and thanks for watching! Did you enjoy the Buffalo? I really like that river!
Keep taping and they will come. Enjoying your content please keep this up do not be discouraged I look forward to everything that you send
Thank you, sir, and thanks for watching!
Man I feel ya!!! Bout two weeks ago I was on the harpeth passing through Kingston springs and hooked into what I thought was a catfish! I tell you I’m not exaggerating when I say this Smallie was pushing 6lbs! My wife saw it 5ft away from me before it spit the hook! I know your pain!
Awesome! Thats a lifetime fish in that setting. Sorry that happened, but go back after that sucker!
@@chunkyfellafishingoh I plan on it! I remember the exact spot! With any luck she’s still there!
The mud commentary is cracking me up. I hateeee when I step in that poo. Stinkyyyy
Man I sunk too!
I always wonder what those big fish with the dark tails are? I see them all over that river. Nice video. I like the head cam. Cool wildlife shots. Bummer on the big one, it’s happens to us all. He will be bigger next time you catch him 🎉
Red horses maybe?
Nice video...thanks!! The fish here on the stones in Mboro are STUFFED with cicadas...only the small ones will take a lure. Hey that one you missed was not that big...it only looked to be about 28 inches...only 1 inch over the state record...so not super big....don't feel bad. Hey...if you still interested I will probably be free the weekend of the 1st and 2nd if you want some company....just let me know......thanks.
Sounds good, man! I’ll check out my schedule. I could definitely see fish eating cicadas all day on Saturday. They’re gonna be huge!
Oh man, that looks waayyyy better than when you and I went out there. You actually had time to fish decent spots because the water wasn't moving fast. Awesome vid!
Thanks, buddy! Agreed, it was slower moving for sure.
“We need a lot of information on you my friend” 😂😂😂
Yeah, you can tell I was excited lol.
The rain has been bit of a damper but still catching fish! Nice find! FYI: Abu Garcia originated in Sweden way back when… but of course now like everything else it’s made abroad in Asia. St.Croix Mojo rod is the better find. $150 retail I believe.
Sweet!!!
Great trip!! Nice fish. that St Croix Mojo Bass rod is the real deal...nothing better than finding sunken treasure...yyaaarrrggghhh...I love the tangled mess on your deck...very realistic. You will have to get better at securing all that stuff or it will be someone else's sunken treasure one day...even a slow flow like the harpeth will turn you turtle at times...safe adventures!!
You are not lying! Thanks for watching!!!
❤
Appreciate the love!
Nice! I didn’t see that big one you got! I think I was far behind yall.
Yeah that one was my best of the day for sure.
How do you like that vendetta rod? Iv been kickin around pickin one up
You know, it’s probably my least expensive rod, but it’s the one I choose to use the most! I’d recommend. Good and sensitive with a backbone too.
What too waters are you using? Do you have any recommendations on what too waters to use?
Whopper plopper, always. I’ll occasionally use a Heddon puppy and walk the dog but I’ve never tried in the kayak.
Andrew, I didn’t realize that was you, buddy! Thanks for watching!
@@chunkyfellafishing yeah your wife sent me you channel and I’ve watched all you videos

Yeah it is but it’s better for sure.
You do what’s confoetable for you the videos are still amazing
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Noice!! I want to join in soon! Is the clicking a fish counter?
GoPro hindsight. Very cool for fisherman using GoPros. It saves the previous 30 seconds of video and it’s always rolling. So if I press the record button, it records the previous 30 seconds and everything after until I stop recording. Very cool setting.
COOL
@@chunkyfellafishing man that’s sick!!! I think mines a hero 6 😂😂😭😭

Thanks for watching!
It's a beautiful river, even with all the tornado damage. Did you find out if they will replace your rod yet?
Not yet!
You had me at the intro.
Nice! Thanks for watching!
Sweet video! Nice catches too. Hopefully I can tag along for one. I’ve never seen a rod snap! That’s wild! Hope they replace it for you!
Thanks for watching, man!
What brand, weight, color is that spinnerbait? Great video.
You gotta ask Cookie!
Booyah pond magic in Fire Bug color. For trailer Crush City Ned, Bama craw or Goby color. Caught my two biggest this year on that setup.
Where do you put your kayak in? I have a 13.5 lure v2 and getting it down the stairs at all the launches in franklin is a pain
