Hiking the Buttermere Fells | RED PIKE, HIGH STILE & HIGH CRAG | Lake District National Park
Join me on this classic Lake District walk, which I completed in an anti-clockwise direction from Buttermere, ascending up to Bleaberry Tarn before taking on the summits of Red Pike, High Stile and then finally High Crag (aka the Buttermere Edge). It's an 8 mile circular and took me around 5 hours to complete (including filming) - one to definitely enjoy on a clear day to see the views towards Buttermere & Ennerdale!

    Lovely video Christine, stumbled across your channel by chance and subscribed. You were lucky with the snow. Hi Christine. Loving these walks in the Buttermere area. The scenery doesnt get much better! unless you get clagged in on the tops of course but still a beautiful walk albeit a tough ascent! and maybe a steep descent if you used the direct way down rather than walk over 'Seat'. You will soon be needing a spare rucksack to cater for all your now legendary cakes haha they do look yummy 😋 Great video. All the Best 🙂

      Thanks Tony, pleased to hear you're enjoying the latest Lake District videos, being based at a campsite in Buttermere was brilliant - so many good walks right on the door step 😊 Felt like a very steep descent but I hear they've upgraded the path off the summit recently so don't believe it was as bad as it has been historically! They were very yummy and a spare rucksack might be a good shout!

    Hello Christine. You have a great channel and done so well just on 39 videos. 👏👏 That's really good. I love watching and listening to your vids. It's been difficult to make a video with the weather this year. I'd love to see you do Waun Fach (The Dragon's Back) I did a 5 min video on it about 3 months ago. Please have a look if you get chance. It's a beautiful hike. I think better than Pen y Fan for views and it's so much quieter. I love Pen y Fan and do it perhaps 5-7 times a year. Waun Fach is the next biggest after Pen y Fan and Corn Du. I'm sure you all this already. I hope you get to do a vid from there this year on clear day. Keep having fun and smiling on your vids. You inspire people to go out and explore. Nice to see you having a little cake on your last vid.😁👋

Yet to hike Waun Fach, seen it from afar off the summit of Sugarloaf for example, looks incredible and on the bucket list for this year - thanks for the recommendation 😊 Hope you can manage some more time outdoors as the weather (hopefully) improves! & cake is always a staple item to pack for me on any hike!

      @JamieHarding5 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @shefreelyroams I very much look forward to seeing you do that video there on Waun Fach. My one was about 5-6 minutes I think. It shows the mountain really well. I'm not great with tech. Not on Facebook, Instagram etc, just TH-cam. It's been a big thing for me to learn because I'm so bad with it🤦🏻 I was out at Blaen y Glyn on Saturday. Perfect weather. I think it's offers better views than Pen y Fan. I know you've been over that way. I watched you do Fan y Big before. F is V. Welsh is hard 😁 The crash site from the 1940s is near Fan y Big. I've done 2 shorts of my walk there, the crash site plane and the waterfall. I had a shower under the waterfall, it was going well, I slipped and fell in. It was quite funny so I'll keep it in the video tomorrow. I haven't done anything with it yet, just the two shorts. They have done quite well. You would do better there obviously than me. Have a look at my shorts if you have a few seconds, you might find something you could do better. I've been watching yours and some others in the Lake District. I'm going there for 3 days this month. Lots of mountains, lakes, waterfall swimming and washing and wild camping. It will be quite an experience for me. Look forward to your vids. You show people how beautiful the outside is, and you always do it with a smile (and cake) 😁👋

      Thanks Jamie - keep going with it, I am completely self-taught too, but that's part of the fun with it - it's completely your own creative process! Hope you enjoy your time in the Lakes later this month - it's such a unique place and amazing for outdoor adventures 😊

    A superb walk, tackled years ago with a cloudline a bit, but not that much higher than your on this day. I just about got views from Red Pike, whilst all was clear and beautiful and September un brights all across High Crag, but other than a brief swirl in the clouds of maybe three seconds maximum, I saw nothing from High Stile. The highest of the Wainwrights that I never got a view from. Make sure you get back to this on a clear day.

    @AlanMETALMAN 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Thoroughly enjoyed this for three reasons very well filmed, I also did the exact same route about 2 years ago and I have been flat out ill all week, so desperate to see some good Lakeland content. I parked at Gateside Farm as I wanted to see the car as soon as I dropped down and had brilliant weather despite it being Autumn when I did it and I remember those steps through the woods up to the tarn! Loved the views, especially the waterfall which I stopped at while on the way to Mellbreak last week and I have wanted to catch those jets on film for so many years then 6 of them flew right passed me, on Crummock Water last week, could not believe it. Shame about the low clouds but the mist over the tarn made it look so magical and it looked like you had it all to yourselves as well and what a perfect place to stop for a break. I remember that pull up to Red Pike and I admit I found it tough but there is a small detour to Dodd just before you take the final climb to Red Pike, which is so worthwhile, as it is an amazing view point. It is not a Wainwright, so most people miss it out but on a clear day it gives breath-taking views. Gutted for you for missing out on the ridge walk views but there seems to have been an effort made to make the descent from High Crag a bit more civilised, as it was a mare when I came down and how I got away with only one fall I will never know but great to see the views start to open up for you again, which were amazing. Great hike, really perked me up, cheers Alan

      Thanks Alan for such a lovely comment filled with kind words & fond memories for yourself, genuinely lovely to read 🫶🏻 firstly, hope you are feeling better now and secondly, lucky that you managed to catch the jets on film over Crummock Water last month (I only caught a fleeting second this day), quite a sight to witness! Hopefully I can be back one day to enjoy the beautiful (I am told) views from the ridge and as you mention, the descent from High Crag was heavy going but nothing compared to what it sounds like to have been historically - fair play for getting down in one piece! Very nice thanks my memory is of how rocky that easy looking down path is underfoot it was a bit relentless I was not far from 60 at the time. The views gorgeous and a very nice route. I guess youd call that the traditional route.

    Thank you for your videos. We are heading back to Snowdonia in June and we have loved watching your videos for inspiration for routes this weekend. We did the walk across the top of the Glyders out of Devils kitchen last time and it was so magical! (And hard work!)

    Hi Christine, Not mentioned but a lovely looking pool at about 2:30, a tad on the cold side I suspect even for you. Cake before 3 minutes in, suppose its important to have something to soak up the coffee ☕️ Boy did that next bit look steep, good job you didn't have a camera to keep going back for. Looked quite a way to go 🚶‍♀️ in half an hour of light. Obviously you made it back OK. Cheers Graham

    • @shefreelyroams
      @shefreelyroams หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Graham 😊 very much agree, beautiful looking pool too! The climb up to Rossett Pike was a cracker, probably tougher going than the following two summits! Definitely needed the coffee and cake for that section! Yes made it back just in time for complete darkness & dinner at the New Dungeon Ghyll 😋 thanks for the continued support, appreciate it 🫶🏻

    Its years since I did that exact same route Christine and definately one of my favourites to date! Stunning views for miles and miles and the ascent of Esk Pike was a belting little scramble. Angle Tarn the most perfect spot for your now legendary cake haha. Didnt want to leave Bowfell summit as the views were to die for. Well done Christine and thanks for taking us along with you. Brought back super memories and maybe Ill get to do it again at some point. All The Best 🙂

      @shefreelyroams หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed, one of my new favourites to date too, just simply incredible views throughout the route! And Bowfell is incredible for fell spotting ⛰️ I actually found the climb up to Rossett Pike the way I ascended tougher than Esk Pike but definitely a nice little scramble up to Esk! Ahah can’t be having a day out in the mountains without a beautiful cake stop! Thanks Tony, lovely to hear it brought back memories & fingers crossed you can do it again some time soon 😊

I’m yet to do Cadair Berwyn including Pistyll Rhaeadr but have been recommended it by friends, on the bucket list! Yes had a little nightmare with the mic for a few days due to strong winds, need to try some different options going forward, hopefully will start to get better in future videos I film 🤞🏻 all learning as I go! It was actually quite busy by midday at the Tarn but always quieter if start early 😄
