  • Join me on this classic Lake District walk, which I completed in an anti-clockwise direction from Buttermere, ascending up to Bleaberry Tarn before taking on the summits of Red Pike, High Stile and then finally High Crag (aka the Buttermere Edge). It's an 8 mile circular and took me around 5 hours to complete (including filming) - one to definitely enjoy on a clear day to see the views towards Buttermere & Ennerdale!
    As always, I hope you enjoy this video & feel free to leave a comment down below as I really enjoy reading them, much love Christine x 🌞🌻

    Thoroughly enjoyed this for three reasons very well filmed, I also did the exact same route about 2 years ago and I have been flat out ill all week, so desperate to see some good Lakeland content. I parked at Gateside Farm as I wanted to see the car as soon as I dropped down and had brilliant weather despite it being Autumn when I did it and I remember those steps through the woods up to the tarn! Loved the views, especially the waterfall which I stopped at while on the way to Mellbreak last week and I have wanted to catch those jets on film for so many years then 6 of them flew right passed me, on Crummock Water last week, could not believe it. Shame about the low clouds but the mist over the tarn made it look so magical and it looked like you had it all to yourselves as well and what a perfect place to stop for a break. I remember that pull up to Red Pike and I admit I found it tough but there is a small detour to Dodd just before you take the final climb to Red Pike, which is so worthwhile, as it is an amazing view point. It is not a Wainwright, so most people miss it out but on a clear day it gives breath-taking views. Gutted for you for missing out on the ridge walk views but there seems to have been an effort made to make the descent from High Crag a bit more civilised, as it was a mare when I came down and how I got away with only one fall I will never know but great to see the views start to open up for you again, which were amazing. Great hike, really perked me up, cheers Alan

      Thanks Alan for such a lovely comment filled with kind words & fond memories for yourself, genuinely lovely to read 🫶🏻 firstly, hope you are feeling better now and secondly, lucky that you managed to catch the jets on film over Crummock Water last month (I only caught a fleeting second this day), quite a sight to witness! Hopefully I can be back one day to enjoy the beautiful (I am told) views from the ridge and as you mention, the descent from High Crag was heavy going but nothing compared to what it sounds like to have been historically - fair play for getting down in one piece! Thanks again for the support, really appreciate it, nice to hear you enjoyed the video 😊

    Hi Christine. Loving these walks in the Buttermere area. The scenery doesnt get much better! unless you get clagged in on the tops of course but still a beautiful walk albeit a tough ascent! and maybe a steep descent if you used the direct way down rather than walk over 'Seat'. You will soon be needing a spare rucksack to cater for all your now legendary cakes haha they do look yummy 😋 Great video. All the Best 🙂

      Thanks Tony, pleased to hear you're enjoying the latest Lake District videos, being based at a campsite in Buttermere was brilliant - so many good walks right on the door step 😊 Felt like a very steep descent but I hear they've upgraded the path off the summit recently so don't believe it was as bad as it has been historically! They were very yummy and a spare rucksack might be a good shout!

    A superb walk, tackled years ago with a cloudline a bit, but not that much higher than your on this day. I just about got views from Red Pike, whilst all was clear and beautiful and September un brights all across High Crag, but other than a brief swirl in the clouds of maybe three seconds maximum, I saw nothing from High Stile. The highest of the Wainwrights that I never got a view from. Make sure you get back to this on a clear day.

    Hi Christine,
    Well, cakes got a mention pretty early on in the video 😀. That did look like quite a climb up to Red Pike, shame about the clag at the top but at least you got some gorgeous views afterwards. I do notice that you say "we" alot, is this just a turn of phrase or did you have some unfilled company?
    Until next time
    Cheers
    Graham

    • @shefreelyroams
      @shefreelyroams  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Of course the cakes got a mention early on, had to give a shout out to the tea rooms in Buttermere for the provisions! Definitely felt it in the legs at the summit of Red Pike, worth it for the views later along the ridge towards High Crag - hopefully can be back on a clear day to enjoy the views all along 😊 I sometimes hike with friends/family that I choose not to film so yes good question, on this hike I was fortunate to have some company for the day! Thanks for watching Graham, hope you're managing to enjoy some time outdoors too now that the weather is improving slightly 🫶🏻
