  • Back in November I completed this moderately easy 5 mile circular walk to the summit of Catbells before descending back to the shores of Derwent Water & finishing off with a nice warm meal at Lingholm Kitchen! It took me around 2.5 hours to complete this walk (including breaks for cake & filming) and would recommend arriving early for parking near Gutherscale lodge as can get super busy on weekends/school holidays!
    As always, thank you for joining me on my adventures, I hope you enjoyed this video :) Please give it a like & subscribe if you did enjoy it and leave a comment down below as I really enjoy reading them, much love Christine x 🌞🌻

    Beautiful, colours so nice.
    Very relaxing Sunday morning watch.
    Thank you.
    Didn’t look too cold for you.
    I miss the spring and summer but winter walks are so peaceful and quiet. It's so good to be outdoors.
    Look forward to your next one.👋

      Thanks Jamie - really lovely to hear 🫶🏻 Yes was fairly mild that day, actually got quite warm climbing to the summit! Definitely pros and cons to walking for every season, I am looking forward to the longer days though to enjoy sunset walks after work! Thank you again for the support, appreciate it 😊

    Hi Christine,
    After your last comment I realised this was filmed 🎥 during your November trip. Grasmere cake features loud and clear. You were jammy with the weather. Last time we did Catbells we took the sharp decent, my knees are reminding me that was silly as we could see the last boat of the day to Keswick picking its way around the lake and realised we were going to miss it. That meant a long trek back around the lake. You live and learn. Thanks again for taking us with you.
    Cheers
    Graham

      Thanks Graham, yes this one was also filmed back in November last year! Nice to hear you've made a trip up to the summit of Catbells and the walk around Derwent is usually lovely.. maybe less so if you've just climbed Catbells and was expecting a boat trip back!! 😊

    Really enjoyed seeing that. Catbells is a wonderful viewpoint with the lake on one side and Newlands on the other. Just shows you don't have to get on the high fells to get the views.
    Well done, looking forward to the next one.

    I do love this walk. Even though it's so popular, the views the entire route are beautiful. Looks like you had the mountain to yourself ❤

    Smashed it again Christine! I did the Newlands horseshoe 2 years ago, parked in little town, up to cat bells, turned around then did half the horseshoe because I took a wrong turn! 🙄🙄😂

      @shefreelyroams  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you Rob, very kind of you to say ♥️ and that’s good to know, good map reading skills required for the horseshoe 🤣 hopefully I can complete on a beautifully long summer’s day this year!

    Another beautiful little hike Christine. Although Cats Bells has always been classed as a family friendly walk its still a good hike up from the lake but a belting little scramble. Last June we stayed at Littletown Town Farm for 3 nights stunning scenery of the Newlands Valley and Catbells summit clearly seen and so easy to walk from there. The Newlands round I did in two walks also. Dale Head, Hindscarth and Robinson from Buttermere and Cat Bells, Maiden Moor, High Spy and Castle Crag from Portinscale. Beautiful Hikes. Thanks for taking us along with you Christine and I heard there was a shortage of cake in the Lake District before Christmas. Apparently it was all in your rucksack 😂it does look yummy though 😋

      @shefreelyroams  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you Tony 🫶🏻 it definitely isn't to be underestimated based on its height, still awesome views from the summit! That's good to know, think I will consider splitting the horseshoe in two, unless this summer I get the chance to tackle the full route with a clear long day! Heard it's a beautiful route 😍 haha that could have very much been the case with the amount I was consuming for the period I was there!! So delicious so no regrets!

    I have done the Newlands Horseshoe but I broke it into two sections doing Catbells, Maiden Moor and High Spy about 4 years ago and Dale Head, Hindscarth and Robison about 2 years ago, with a friend, as she had not done them before. Despite it being a misty old day it was nice to see you got a clear summit and always such a nice view from Catbells and perfect place to have a brownie. Gorgeous colour in the trees on the wat down, cheers Alan

      @shefreelyroams  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Alan for sharing your experience completing the horseshoe, definitely considering doing it in half if can't get a nice clear day in Summer with sufficient daylight hours! Such a lovely spot to take in the views from, really enjoyed it and ending with the woodland section was lovely - thanks for tagging along on this one 🫶🏻

    How did you get Catbells so quiet? Newlands is a great walk. I'd recommend going up via Hindscarth, lunch at Dalehead Tarn and given you've done Catbells drop into Little Town after Maiden Moor.

      Guess I got lucky on a weekday in November after a full month of storms! Thanks Colin for the recommendation, hoping to complete on a clear, long Summer's day & will probably take your advice and drop down before Catbells 😊

    I would do the circular in summer It can be a long hike after highspy there is a big steep climb up dale head and fairly harder going just after.
