Another week gone by and its time to make sure the pool is properly balanced.
As usual it looks GREAT! I just re-balanced all the minerals after over filling the pool by about 50% and the water looks great.
Free Chlorine - .4 PPM
Total Chlorine - .4 PPM
More than enough. I also did a test for harmful bacteria that came back negative. The pool water is safe, even with the low level of chlorine. :)
PH - 7.8 to 8.0
I added 5 cups of acid to lower the PH. The PH can spike up to 8.0 for a while after adding minerals.
Total Alkalinity - 70 PPM
This is ok.
Calcium Hardness - 300 PPM
This is ok as well.
Combined with the PH, TA, CH, and temperature the saturation index is .14 - well within the proper range. Adding the acid will lower the PH and bring the SI back town to the .01 range.
Cyanuric Acid - 20 PPM
This is more than enough to maintain a .5 PPM chlorine residual.
Phosphates - 500 PPB
I need to do a concentrated phosphate treatment soon to nuke out the phosphates.
Borates - 80 PPM
This is perfect.
Our season is almost over. This has been another very successful and problem proof season. I hope you all enjoy your week!

So last week I tested the pool for borates and it was down to like 30 PPM, which is a HUGE drop from the 50 - 60 that it has been. This generally means I either have a leak or I overfilled the pool. I am pretty sure that I over filled it. So today I am going to add about 20 lbs. of Borates and half of a PoolRX booster to bring my mineral balances back in line. The only way Borates exit the pool...

Pool was looking great today. Free Chlorine - .2 PPM Total Chlorine - .2 PPM That's enough. I checked on the tablet and not much of it had dissolved. This generally means the pool isn't getting proper circulation and the filter is typically the culprit. PH - 8.0 PH was high today possibly from the fill water. I added 4 cups of acid to bring it back down. Total Alkalinity - 70 PPM That's good. C...

I let another two weeks pass without checking on the pool. This time we even had RAIN! I was expecting the pool to be over run with issues like cloudiness and algae. Not a thing of the sort! In fact after testing the pool I even had a minute amount of chlorine left! Free Chlorine - .2 PPM Total Chlorine - .2 PPM Not bad for not having added any chlorine in 2 weeks! Time is flying by. We are almost at the end of the swim season! Pool looks good today, as always. The water is shimmering and clear. Although the pool does not seem to be circulating properly. Upon further inspection the problem is with the filter. The pressure is sitting near 30. That means it is time to backwash! Even though the pool has not been circulating very well, there was still some de...

So I have not been out to the pool for about two weeks. I took some vacation time and let the pool alone to see if anything bad would happen if I didn't stop by for a while. Turns out that by having your pool treated via this method not only reduces the need for chlorine, even in 100 degree weather, it also seems to maintain a better balance, longer - without negative effects like algae or clou...

The heat is killer in Texas. Seriously, every July almost 100 people die from heat related causes. Luckily we have swimming pools. Last week I commented on the pool not circulating properly and this week I noticed the same problem. The culprit; high filter pressure. With all this rain I really needed to get out to the pool a second time this week and re-balance the water. Using a GLASS measuring cup around a pool deck is a big mistake. Eventually it’s going to drop and break. It’s impossible to see and remove all the glass fragments from the pool bottom. It only takes the tiniest shard on the deck to cut the homeowner’s feet. There a PLASTIC measuring cups that are resistant to acid and chlorine sold in every pool store.

Between the borates, phosphate remover and chlorine you should have zero algae growth. There’s no need to waste money by also adding algacide every week for prevention.

  • @drdrew3
    @drdrew3 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Just buy Borax at Target. It’s only $5 a box but you will also need to add about 2 gallons of muriatic acid to get the pH back down. Borates really do make the water feel silky, make the surface sparkle, reduce chlorine demand and prevent algae growth. It’s just a one time cost and then a single box once a year to replace splash out and dilution

Using a GLASS measuring cup at the poolside is among the worst ideas ever. One wrong move and there’s broken glass in the pool that’s nearly impossible to see and likewise hard to remove. And you really want to pour the acid into the cup OVER the pool. Acid is clear and any unrecognized drops on the pool deck will leave chemical stains. Sometimes it takes minutes or hours to become visible and then it’s too late

I have trouble deciding which color is the right color to choose with the Taylor 2005 test kit. So I ordered the Lamotte 2056 ColorQ Pro 7 Digital Pool Test kit. It should be here on Tuesday. I don't have great eyesight so this kit should be the best set for me because you put the water in the tube and put a drop of the appropriate regiment in the tube put it in the little machine, press the button and it tells you the right number for your chemicals. It is more expensive but there won't be anymore guessing on my part.

  • @evelyneller9647

If the water doesn't change to any color does this mean there isn't any chlorine in my pool? I put a full gallon of liquid chlorine in my pool this morning. I have the Taylor 2005 water testing kit. But when I test my water the water I'm testing doesn't change to a color. What should I do? My pool is 24ftx52in.

The LaMotte SpinTouch does all these tests with a single sample. The unit costs about $950 and the single use cartridges about 50 cents each. It’s the consumer version of the device of what Leslie’s Pool uses. Or you can just bring a fresh sample to wherever you buy your chemicals

Terrance Nock Negative, if you add cyanuric while the backwash is on then that cyanuric acid will just get drained out of the waste line. It is a good idea to backwash the filter if you haven't recently BEFORE adding cyanuric acid as it can take up to 14 days to dissolve and generally will hang out in the filter.
