I cracked my titanium saddle rails
มุมมอง 26912 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
So, perhaps my fanciest bike part, the titanium rail tubing on my Selle Italia saddle, suddenly cracked. Both of them, actually. I didn't notice when it happened, and it didn't lead to an accident, but it's kinda wild. I blame myself, of course, because I didn't place it properly. I will replace it with my Brooks Cambium C15 carved. Instagram: addvurtbikes #fixie #fixedgear #cycli...

A big fat anti-climax
มุมมอง 27721 วันที่ผ่านมา
This video is a bit of a bummer, but it felt therapeutic to make it, so here it is. No-one got hurt or anything, it was just a big fat anti-climax. Last year, Stefan and I rode this MTB race in the wettest conditions I have ever experienced. This year, we forced our friend Jack to join us, and it was maybe even wetter this time. And if that wasn't icky enough, I got a flat tire. Twice. Yes, I r...

Do you like drawing, bikes, disc golf, moving hay, and fishing in the Swedish countryside? Say no more. This is Jack. Jack has a fixed gear bike, but it's in singlespeed mode. That's okay. I'll force him to go fixie next summer. Enjoy! //Addvurt
Storing bikes in my shed + fixie rant

I finally took the time to re-arrange my shed, where I store my bikes. It has made my bike life quite a lot more convenient! In this video I talk about multiple things, including: Bike shed, chain line, bottom bracket, fixed gear, aluminium frame, skinny tires, latex tubes, the love of riding bikes, Skream Anodiz, Continental GP 5000. Foot retention makes fixed gear meaningful
มุมมอง 5K3 หลายเดือนก่อน

I don't want a mountain bike

Welcome to my trail. Or as we call it in Swedish, elljusspår. This is a lovely stretch of dirt, gravel and wood chips that crawls around in the forest just a few minutes from my house. I like to ride fixed gear, and when you mix fixed gear and off-the-asphalt riding, you get tracklocross! Track bike cyclocross = Tracklocross. Brakeless fixed gear is not for everyone

Why do I ride fixed gear?
มุมมอง 18K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
If you ride fixed gear, you've been asked this questions many times. It's not super easy to put the answer into words that makes sense. Maybe that's because it doesn't make sense. I don't know. There is a bit of "if you know, you know" mentality about fixed gear, but I'm going to try to put my honest answer into this video. Enjoy! //Addvurt

i started riding my fixie with no brakes never looked back
straight into the deep end!
i miss riding my brake less fixie 😢
You should get one again if you can :)
Ah man you are keeping me sane with all of these chill rides thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it, buddy!
Don't worry, it will be back in no time.
I'm gonna sleep through the winter!
Risers all day! :) The stickers look so nice.
Thank buddy! Btw, what is your preferred width for handlebars?
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Also on team drops. I have wide bars on my mountain bike but my regular bike I prefer drops. I just wish I had fancy flared ones
Greg Silverstein! I missed that you have a full name here. TH-cam only shows me usernames when I go into the comments section. That's weird! Flared drops... I would like to test some flared drops on a gravel ride, to see what it's about! How is your injury recovery going?
It is going well. They estimate I can ride in maybe five more weeks. I was able to ride the stationary bike in the gym as a reprieve.
@@getpoked101 exercise bike to the rescue! at least you won't lose all your leg strength :)
I’m surprised the Ti rails broke before that Chinese Pepsi can frame did
are we hating on alu now?
Skream’s quality control isn’t too good
@@theholycasca2174 no issues for me so far, and I have not heard anyone complain about their frames either
What the fuck
is the c15 actually comfortable? I have been thinking about getting one
It is more comfortable than it has any right to be if you have drop bars :)
I'm young, so I ride
Let's ride while we are alive!
The drop bars looked great. Why would you remove them? Why
I felt done with the color. I will put it back at some point, but with a different color tape.
it adds personality
yeah. hopefully one has a good personality ;)
How long is the riser?
64 cm in a straight line from one bar end to the other :)
Dude stfu and do whatever you want it's YOUR bike 😡 Who cares if someone else thinks it isn't cool ugh
Stickers can be done so that they enhance the look, and really look good. However they can also look trashy if done wrong. Also, all my coolest stickers I am always afraid to stick on something.
ah, yes, I know that feeling! If the placement is bad, you have to live with it or throw away the sticker :(
Bunch of random stickers of stuff i like on my beater bike lol
When you stop with brakes, you don't immediately stop either. It's a linear progressive stop depending on your speed, but you'll keep moving forward until your stop or even panic brake and go over the bars. While skid stoping tho, I progressively get into a 90° angle relative to my obstacle Wich I find more efficient than waiting for the bike to stop. While getting to or achieving that angle I can either avoid the obstacle and continue pedaling or just change direction while stopping. That saved me once avoiding a side colision with a semi truck (while passing in front of a bus) when if I had regular brakes I would have definitely been runned over. Edit: On the subject of technical failure. On that same incident, the angle I was in to avoid the truck was such that my pedal hit the floor and my chain dropped. Since I was out of danger I simply pressed the top of my rear tire with my shoe and I stopped pretty fast
Dude, that's wild! Happy you got out safely. The way you described that one short situation in this great detail is really cool. Are you a writer or something? :D
Ride once for me! I fell mountain biking and have a fracture on my right arm so no riding for a while :(
Oof, I'm sorry to hear that :( I will ride for you in the meantime, yes!
@@addvurtbikes Thank you!. It is not bad I am still smiling despite the injury. I'll be back on my wheels in a few weeks for wonderful autumn here.
I took my brake off my fixie and i just stopped riding it. A mental block formed with it because i didnt feel safe enough to have fun on it. Switched to mountain biking
didn’t you put the brake back on and start riding fixie again?
When someone else pays for my bike, then I'll consider their opinions about what to do with my bike.
Yeah, that makes sense!
Not even then, if they gave it to you, it's yours.
sick stickers and I also like the risers! I admit I am a fan of the banana bars too though
Thanks buddy! Banana bars have a certain peacock charm to them, but I think it was a one season wonder for me :D
I think you nailed it.
Thank you my friend!
i used to sticker bomb my bike but now i don't do it anymore , now i only stticker my name to my bike and that's it
name on a sticker, that's pretty smart actually!
First. Risers just look so cool. Also I like putting stickets, but sticker bombing aint for me
Yeah, I don't think I would sticker bomb a frame that I like, but maybe if I had a frame that I wanted to use but not look at, and also an abundance of stickers :D
nice bike dude, I've been looking at your replies and you seem like a very chill guy. gained a new sub
Listen sunshine, I see virtually no traffic in your video. I see flat ground. Ride in my Uk city which is hilly and has a massive traffic problem with narrow roads and aggressive drivers and see how long you would last. Horses for courses as the people in England would say that are actually English by birth.
okay
What stem is on the fixie with the yellow bar tape ?
Ritchey Classic C220 HP 31.8
Make sure the screws on the cleats are not too loose. I almost fell down the other day because one screw fell off and when trying to unclip, the cleat (though that was an SH51) rotated with the pedal while staying locked. So now I used loctite on the threads and somewhat gorillafist them 😄
Oh wow that sounds pretty scary! I hope it went ok. Yeah I check them every now and then. I should probably also replace them once a year or so?
I ride unicycle and ride to work and back every day plus i ride on lunch and with my daughter in the afternoons and on the weekend......im thinking of getting a nice fixed gear so i can go all the way to work instead of taking the bus part the way. Fixie or uni for me
Sounds like you ride a lot which sounds amazing! Yeah, get a fixie! Especially if you can cancel your bus card! :)
TOURELLY.
They look really cool!
1. Steep downhills.... 2. Emergencies in traffic.... 3. Saving rear tire rubber.... BOTH my fixies have a front brake....
The smart choice!
1 and 2, please use your brake if you cant skid; but i have rode long enough to be able to skid from 25mph and do basically a 180 degree shift in direction within a circumference of 4-5 meters. I feel safe to not run with a brake in either of those situations; and the incline going down for me to not be able to lose control would either have to be crazy steep like less than 45 or going crazy fast (see epic hill bomb by massan - macaframa/ bro uses his shoes when he needs to) and tyres aren't too expensive, some shops throw away tyres good enough to skid for a few months. maybe its about opinion, perspective, experience or which scene has influenced us all but who am i to say.
it is only for bike messengers. or else put on a brake. you do NOT ride enough.
Messengers can have brakes too :)
@@addvurtbikes exactly. im a messenger for 15years. rode brakeless for years. it is silly nonsense. unless it is your profession PUT ON A FUCKING BRAKE! right. you are not a keirin racer or someone who rides hundreds of hours per month. these idiots are the reason cops target us. they ride like rookies on the weekend, we get the tickets during the week. people try to imitate us, give us a bad name, and we are the ones dealing with the cars hating bikes. unless you are on the way to pick up something from a hospital, YOU ARE NOT IN A RUSH.
I WANT THIS!
I really really like it!
Breakless with no straps or clips? Danger zone
I would never do that. I have SPD pedals here, with spd cleats on the Adidas Velosamba shoes :)
Don't beat yourself up. No matter how prepared you are, there's always something that can go wrong, even when it's completely out of your control. I know people who travel far to race a lot, and even they have complete blunders now and again. If anything, maybe this will motivate you to come back for revenge next time! :)
Thanks dude. Yeah, we all feel like we have to experience the event with good weather at least once, so I'm sure I will get my revenge :)
yeah for sure not how you wanted it to go, but at the end of the day it's just a bike ride, and anyway you still got to see your friends and be outside. I once dropped out of a MTB race after just the first lap, the pace was just too high and I felt like I was getting in the way of people who were actually racing. For some days afterward I had some bad and mixed feelings about the whole thing, but looking back I'm not sad or anything, in fact it's just another life lesson, another experience to add to my book of experiences. As for the tire, I've had that happen before too, where I get a flat, fix it, then 5 minutes later get another one, very frustrating.
Yeah, you're absolutely right! It's not that important. It really sucked to miss out, but it was certainly an experience. Thanks for sharing yours too!
Or maybe a single speed or fixed MTB in the future????
Having a single speed MTB would be cool, but it's not likely to happen. I will prepare my Ribble better next time :)
Have you tried tubeless yet? Or maybe the new TPU tubes?
I have never tried tubeless. It would probably have saved me this time, but I'm really afraid of the sealant :D I AM however almost certainly going to get TPU tubes. Do you have experience with them?
I live in Tampa Florida,... One of the most dangerous cities in America. I ride fixedgear. Currently I ride 52-16, #52-15, #54-17, 54-16. I have brakes on 2 and 2 without brakes. The gear ratio is lower on both so no need for a brake. I love to ride fast so I keep the brake for emergency purposes but very rarely I use them. I e learned to really monitor in the streets since I've been riding all my life. Not everyone is the same but that's what I ride and I can skids on all of those which is the best part. I've been riding fixed since 2014 and don't ride much else. Oh and thanks for these videos you got it on the money🌀🌀🌀
Thank you! Those are some big gear ratios. It's nice to hear someone else riding both with and without brakes for pretty much the same reasons as me. What bikes do you have? :)
You are a hero. I seriously considering adopting you as my personal saviour. Grow up and spin to win!
the one thing fixed gears will never be able to do, and the main reason i will never want one of those: Roll, why suffer every rolling inch, when you can enjoy 60% of the ride doing nothing, why suffer? why take fun out of it?
Rolling (coasting) takes the fun out of it for me. But I don’t descent mountains or try to go ultra distances while conserving energy. I just want to maximise what I think is fun about riding. There is no more suffering on a fixie than a roadie, you can choose your ambition on any bike. Thanks for the comment! We all love bikes!
big fan of both of you, cool video!
Thanks, buddy! Have a great day :)
Pretty unreal to see you two together in real life. Fun video!
It felt a bit unreal too, before we actually met. But once we met, it felt extremely natural!
I don’t mind if others want to go breakless but it’s funny that those same smooth brains are losing it over others who decide to be normal
There is quite a lot of anti-brake mentality out there, yep... it's the same with helmets in skateboarding.
It seems that you very much do mind considering the vocabulary you choose to use.
@@MauryanEON no, honestly the sentiment started from an amazement with the skill brakeless guys exhibited to overplayed hipster statement. It’s a skill but not necessity to be deemed a skilled cyclist.
Good to see you together!

That was an awesome day riding bikes. Thanks for having us over and letting me ride your awesome bike!!!

I have a front brake on mine too many traffic stops on hills I can stop without a brake some hills on my route is a little too steep
Yeah, you can always choose to use or not use it :) have a great day!
You would enjoy unicycle!
Yeah I think that would be fun. One of my friends have one! He’s pretty good at it!
Hi from Greece!! Did you feel safe when you are in downhill and can you stop as fast you stop on a dangerous situation Vs you bicycle with brakes ?Sorry for my English I hope you understand what I say.
Hello! Thank you for the comment :) yes I feel safe going downhill because I have done it a lot, and I know my limits. But no, I could never stop as fast with fixed gear as I could with handbrakes. Usually I have emergency handbrakes though :)
